As some of you may know (Brownrob) I love my comics -
Mainly Marvel, DC and Dark Horse titles.
Delivered today, I got BattleChasers (all issues, collected editions and 'Gathering of Heroes') each individually bagged/cardboard and in Mint condition.
I kind of felt sorry for the e-bayer selling them as they only went for £20 but hey - his mistake not mine - I was prepared to go quite a bit higher as there were a couple of signed/certificated issues in there too!
Just wondered what comics (if any) some of our members are reading?
Recent enjoyed publications have been the "The House of M" (Marvel) series.

I am a big fan of Jim Starlin, especially his hero/anti-hero Breed..
I also have a large Thor collection largely due to the fact that I used to be known as Thor (before I became Norse )

I'm mostly a fan of French, Italian and Spanish comics. Moebius/Jean Giraud, Enki Bilal - That kind of stuff. For the Italian and Spanish comics I'm usually the first to admit that the storyline often is not much worth following but this is more than compenstated by the exquisite artwork.
For american comics I must say I much prefer Marvel to JC (OLD Marvel that is. Today it's mostly boring stuff). Spiderman is an old favourite. Best american comic artist in my opinion though is Will Eisner, tightly followed by Robert Crumb. I also liked "Maus" - a comic about Holocaust staring Mice (Can't remember who did them though)
I'm not a big fan of Anime/Manga as such but absolutely loved the old comic "Lonewolf and Cub" and I'm a great fan of Miyasaki (Spirited away, Princess Mononoke). They're not representative for the genre as a whole though.
I must admit I also nick my sons Dragonball comics and find them quite entertaining
Oh and I love old Chinese communist propaganda childrens books (hardly comics though) |

I love the Preacher comics especially the saint of killers. I'm also working my way through Frank Miller's comics, coz I adore his art style.
Oh, and who could forget the crow (1st and second series only. They got silly after that. And I mean second comic series. Who ever commisioned the second film needs a kicking!)
+ You really have to like the Astrix comics, even if only to remember your childhood. |

I'm to mature for comics.
Ok, I lie.
Just there are no decent stores selling comics here (even Marvel or DC), and I never seem to have the money to make a subscription. _________________ What the hell am I doing on a mini's forum? I DON'T PAINT!!!

I have a friend who used to look just like tankgirl. Great sense of style there
I have no friend that looks like her kangaroo buddy though but I'm still looking... |

Usagi Yojimbo for me. Deceptively brilliant IMO.
American Splendor, Old Fantastic Four and Spider-man, and every now and then X-men and Teen Titans.
However it seems lately that every hero needs to have a brooding dark side or be a gun toting psychopath. I'm sick to death of anti-heroes. I long for the old days of Spider-man where the villains were sometimes goofy, and always entertaining...and most of all were always villains! Everytime Marvel creates an interesting baddie he has to become a dangerous anti-hero...Venom, Morbius, Punisher, Blade, Deadpool...on and on.
I like Tom Strong, Astro City, 4th World and things like that for my superheroes. Classic archetypes...not naked women and unshaven psychos in trenchcoats.
As far as non-hero books go I enjoy a lot of what Dark Horse publishes today, especially a lot of their Star Wars books (I really miss Rogue Squadron).
IKt's hard to list everything I like because I like so much of it.
But The Walking Dead was cool. A Contract With God, Ghost World, and probably a ton more than I can't remember. |

Speaking of goofy villains...I was playing City of Villains and this guy breezes past me in a plant themed costume. I notice his name...The Marquis de Sod!
That my friends is what I long for in comics...where has it gone? It's like the only way writers can do cheesy stuff is to make it a parody. The Incredibles was excellent but it's the rare truffle in a mountain of feces...and what has Disney done with that franchise? Not even a comic book series...THAT IS INCREDIBLE TO ME!
Anyway, yeah the Legacy stuff looks cool, Chairface. |

A graphic novel I liked tremendously is "Box Office Poison" by Alex Robinson. The art is a bit underwhelmig at first glance, but it has hidden qualities and "easter eggs" endearing it to me. The real strength of BOP is the plotline and the dialogues though - grrrreat stuff.
Regarding artwork, I really like Phil Foglio. Buck Godot, Dark Tangent, The "What's New?" series and, yes, even Xxxenophile (naugh-tay!)
Although, on second thought, noboy can draw naked girls as good as Milo Manara. |

Big fan of comics. On a soap opera level, the X-titles do the job. However, there is plenty of more adult fare out there. Midnight Nation, Supreme Power, 100 Bullets to name some more recent stuff. Assuming that everyone knows the classics (Maus, Watchmen etc.) and the graphic novels that inspired movies (Road to Perdition, A History of Violence). _________________ Nufflians Unite! :D |

I dont regularily buy nor read comics,
tough I prefer the hard cover ones (I think most of these are french/spanish ?) over the soft covers printed on toilet paper (marvel and dc.) wich can be bought (here) in grocery stores.
in the end Im more of an in-store-reader tough :p or renting from the library in the case of the aforementioned hardcover comic books, wich I would buy if I only knew where.
(and nowadays in the internet era I would look up the names of these comics if only I remember what they were, one I can remember was about a red haired girl, I seem to remember she was cute but then again I was about 8 years old or something , and she had some sort of burning whip, and its definitely not red sonja :))
