|
|
Hey all, working on my Street Bowl team for Gen Con (I know, last minute as always). I started to convert some minis up last Wednesday, then got extremely busy Friday-Sun, so I did not have the time to go as crazy with my conversions. As I needed them primered by last night, so I can start to paint them today!
But, now I am a bit torn on the color scheme.
The team is not yet names, my original name being the Trojan Whores, though someone on TBBL suggested Sporting Lesbos.
I am leaning towards Bronze or Black for the metal armor.
Not sure with the skirts - thinking Green/White (colors of Sporting Lisbon) or Purple/White. Wanted to stay away from red, as it is just too cliche with bronze armor. Plus, those are my space marine colors :P
Here are some shots pre and post spray - you may notice that some of the minis got swapped around between the photos. On the advise of the TBB people, I made the Blitzers look a bit different - with gloves on both hands, and added a spiked extension to their shoulder pads.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

bronze armour, green and white clothes
an homage not only to Sporting Lisbon, but also the Michigan State Spartans if I am not mistaken... in fact, if the team name was Pro Michigan State Spartans you could call them the PMS Spartans for short..
make the crests green and white stripes - I did red and white stripes on one of the MK throwers and it really pops IMHO..
see you in 2 days at the Con.. _________________ in this company my painting skills are limited at best.. |

I have been doing my own slow motion conversion using the Shadowforge Praetorians. Kinda surprised to see someone else using the Dark Temple. I liked and chose the old (First run) Praetorians cause of the small forearm shields, but I have enough Dark Temple to make two full FF teams with all positions unique. I also have enough Tribal's for an Amazon team. . .
Looks like your conversions are going nicely, well done! _________________ Thom. . .

Got home a bit late and got some base colors down on the ladies - and then polished off the night with a cruddy photo.
For what's it's worth, here are the base colors blocked out (note, they need cleanup, and detailing, and a far better photo):
You can't even really tell the one on the left is a blonde and the one on the right is to be a red head :P |

you need to shade the white more - start with a base of codex grey or similar.. black line between the green and white stripes too
also, I was expecting a slightly darker green.. that would look better IMHO

Actually, there isn't much shading of anything other then a wash of brown/chestnut on the bronze - I'm hoping to get some time tonight to get them shaded and looking proper ;)
The green is Vallejo 'Dark Green' (equiv to Grandma Wendy Dark Angels Green) - I didn't want to get a more jade/turquiose color. Do you have a suggestion?
I was planning to highlight with Vallejo Sick Greeen (Grandma Wendy 9Snot Green).
Do you have a better color suggestion?
I had more of a Hunter Green in mind, but didn't see any color that hit that.
They are a little darker then the pic lets on - like I said, horrible shot :P |

You need to hold the button on the camera halfway down for a second or two before clicking it all the way.
If that doesn't help you need to take a look at your settings because your depth of field is behind your figures, I believe.
The wall is focused but the minis aren't. The camera is taking a picture of the wall and not the subject.
You can also try autofocusing (holding the button halfway down) while the crosshairs are on a fig, and the moving the camera (still holding down the button) so the crosshairs are between the figs again. _________________ "I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody."

Tried the photo suggestions (from here and TBB) and got a slightly better shot.
Also got a shot of the base.
Now, I just need to actually clean up the models and do some shading :P
