|
|
As of last night we finalized the terms and contract for Impact! Miniatures to purchase the full rights to the board game Nuthin' But Net.
The game is based on fantasy basketball and was designed by Ben Boersma.
This review on BoardGameGeek for the game was very positive.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/390356
I became involved right after the game came out. The stats for the races and how teams are built is something I re-wrote to help improve the game from the way it was done in first version sold.
Our current plans for the game are as follows:
1) Add a sub-forum for the game on this site for questions.
2) Host the free supplements on BBG on the Impact! main site.
3) Have the game for sale in our store by end of July shipping from both the US and UK.
4) The game will be sold with cardstock counters as currently done by Two Hour Wargames. I'm going to look into options to make the board nicer than it is currently (maybe even a real board in the future).
5) Have miniatures produced for the Goblin and Human teams by this time next year. Since full teams for this game are only 5 figures we do hope to be able to eventually support all of the teams for the game with miniatures (without interfering too much with Impact! Elfball releases)
So we hope you enjoy the newest board game to enter our store and will like the miniatures we produce for it.
Tom

First Impact release I've been "yawn" to - basket ball just doesn't register on my "fun times" radar.
That said, hope it works out. _________________ What the hell am I doing on a mini's forum? I DON'T PAINT!!!

Basketball doesnt tick any of my "yay, funtimes" buttons either but I guess its alot bigger in the US.
Having said that.... I bet it has an awful lot of potential to be an interesting board game. Running speed, passing agility, physical muscle, scoring ability, height, and stamina are all elements that I can see being relevant and should allow plenty of variation and complexity. I'm not exactly up to scratch on basketball tactics but I imagine that the speed of rats plays off nicely against the physical brawn of orcs; deft ball snatches of the elves; and raging insanity of the pirates in chariots.
As a gamer the concept appeals to me. I'm very interested to see how the rules will work. _________________ Elfball is for girls...... and pigs apparently, I know which one I am :D |

That said, hope it works out. | Understood ... however its a well done fantasy sports game with a very low buy in level for a customer. The game will cost half or less than the cost of the Elfball game and a full team of miniatures will be less than half the Elfball cost as well.
Two full teams and the game should run less than $55 USD. Overseas ... probably 35 to 40 GBP. Put another way ... the game and two full teams should cost you pretty close to what one B-B team costs. Which was one of the appeals to us to add it to our range of products.
So its a nice simple add to the line as we look at expanding slowly into other sports and areas.

I guess I am missing what the difference would be. Can't you just pencil that players can't use their hands and get a round ball, and go with the same rules? _________________ "I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody."

Well there is a goal and there would need to be some rules for goalies trying to stop shots

On the plus side, all the fantasy races in the Basketball game are fairly familiar, so until the new releases it would be fairly easy to proxy the figures with existing Elfball or FF miniatures.
Please tell me that Impact will work with JBDemon to produce or distribute the Basketball Frogs.
