Impact! Miniatures is pleased to release its first set of 28mm scale roller derby miniatures.  The set includes a jammer, pivot and three blockers.  This represents the first of three different team sets that were created as part of Impact's upcoming game Impact City Roller Derby.  The game is currently in beta testing and is expected to be released in 1Q12.  The other two miniature sets will be released in the coming weeks.

The set is available for purchase HERE

The miniatures were sculpted by Patrick Keith and painted by Laughing Ferret Studio.

Yes. Each team consists of five players (jammer,  pivot,  3 blockers).   If you have not been to a roller derby match I highly recommend it.   Fast and furious.

I agree that my normal word for miniatures isn't appropriate here! Are rollerderby teams all female? And can we expect fantasy or sci fi teams too?

There are men and women's teams.  However, in the US it is probably 85%+ female.  Roller derby is rapidly expanding in the US in both leagues and attendance.

Right now we are focusing on producing a good roller derby game.  If it sells well, we can certainly look to add a fantasy element to the game.

How does one tell the difference between a jammer, pivot, and blocker?

Jammer has a star helmet. Pivot has a stripe helmet. Blocker has plain helmet.

Irony here is the British Roller Derby Leagues are growing just as fast, if not faster than the North American Leagues! (Compared to relative market share.) Several Brit all star teams recently (the past year or so) made a US nation wide tour selling out in most markets.

Roller Derby is making a huge comeback worldwide, but the the US and the UK are definitely the market leaders. And those leagues and teams are pretty much exclusively female.
