Basing StandardsHowdy!
I was wondering if their was an official guide to what color bases should be painted in order to match the roll the model covers. I remember the original fantasy football had snap rings that indicated what position the model played. I really liked that idea and see that a few models have painted rings and I've also seen the "Skill Rings" on the website for sale. But do any of the colors officially stand for anything?
Always seemed like a great idea and I don't know why FF abandoned it.
Thanks!

"Official" FF colours:
Red - Blitzer
Yellow - Catcher
White - Thrower
Green - Blocker
Grey - Lineman
"Unoffical" updated colours:
Black - Lineman (to go with black bases)
Orange/Purple - any position not covered above (i.e. Witch Elf, Slayer)
I thought it was mentioned in LRB5, but I'm not 100%.

We thought about adding it into LRB 5.0 but there really was not space for it any place that made sense to list it.

IMHO it seems like something best left as an unwritten rule anyway. If it's in the rule book there are those that are slaves to the rules who will begin to expect it. Once something is in print in a rule, no matter how unofficial the wording may be there are always those rules-lawyers who will make the rule annoying rather than helpful.
Some people may not want to color the bases of their models. Fantasy Sports, like any miniature games, are about different things to different people. Some people don't care about strict adherence to the rules as much as painting and modeling, while some only care about the competitive nature of the game and using the rules to determine who is the better strategist, and the models are an afterthought. (most are probably in between)
Both are valid ways of playing the game, but IMO something like this imposes the style of one on the other. And of course there will be those pushy rules lawyers out there that will begin to insist upon it, and eventually it will just be the way it is.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with having an unwritten rule.
There's absolutely something wrong with telling people how to paint their minis.

I have always thought that coloured bases were a very sensible way of keeping track of who does what, and is easy for you to recognise positions of a team you're not familiar with.
having said all that, I have never colour coded my bases. I like to display my minis (only if they win, they lose and they stay in the case), so the skill rings are perfect for me. if you want to avoid colour clashes between the base and the team colours, you could always just write the position on the base lol

So, are those colors the same as what Elf Ball would use if Elf Ball were to have official colors? And what positions would they translate to?
Thanks for finding those. I remembered Blockers and Blitzers but that's it.

There was a post from around august or september of was it 2007 ?<below>
That detailed what colors we used. Seems like it would be, due to the booth we were at.
I know I posted a short list, as the napkin I'd wrote it on went away and I could not recall them all.
Tom posted in it too.
Any-one have better luck searching than me? <edit to add the thread> sorry it is not more conclusive.
