Bribed Ref, the Goal Circle, and catching

Ok, so these are a couple of interesting scenarios. The issue is that the bribed ref trumps a couple of rules. I think I played this correctly, but we'll have to see.

1. You have a bribed ref and your opponent pushes you into the goal circle.

My take on this was that as soon as your activation came up you had to roll a die and see if the bribed ref failed. It seemed fair and the activation ended with your player in the goal hex. It can also encourage your opponent to shove you into the goal hex in the hope of getting back-to-back activations (which did not ensue, but was much hoped for...)

2. Throwing the ball into the goal hex.

Ok, so you have moved a player into the goal hex without the ball (relying on ref bribery) and then throw to that player. My take on this was that since the player is standing in the hex with the white lines that he could attempt to catch it. However, a failed catch would result in a bounce, just like when a player stands on the white line in the middle.

Well I can't say on the first one. We never really had that come up...bribed refs aren't real big around here.

But the second one is how we have interpreted it. It makes a catch challenge necessary. But we always found it difficult to have a player in the goal hex without being shoved out or ejected. That's pretty sweet if they pulled it off.
Cephalopod

It was sweet. Oh yes.
Dark Lord

Hmmn. Maybe bribed refs will make a comeback here?

Re: Bribed Ref, the Goal Circle, and catching

You made the correct call in both cases.

For #1:
Page 11:

at the start of any turn
by your team where you have a player inside a goal circle

This is true if if you were pushed there ... so you roll to see if the ref cares.

For #2:
Anytime a player is standing directly on top of a white line in the game he is allowed to attempt to catch the ball before the white lines bounce the ball.   Page 6:

Note: if a player is standing in a white lined
hex and the ball will land in that hex roll the Catch challenge
first. If that fails the ball bounces off the white line as if the
catching player has not been in that hex.

So you did both of them correctly.

Great! We haven't played with Bribed Refs before so this is all new. I'm glad to see that we have it right.
