Calling all elfball players (again!)With the FUMBBL downtime Ive played a few games of ElfBall with SillySod, who seems to be enjoying the experience!
We are currently playing a mini game with following rules
6 players a side, no reserves
No sideline staff!
Though I think we might bump it up to have 2 reserves as he managed to cripple my Deadwood last night!!!!!
So who is up for a game anytime soon? Hopefully we are playing another game tonight approx 8pm-10pm GMT so people can come watch for a while if they like!

I'll be very happy to keep playing Elfball after the downtime, it just gave me a reason to go and actually learn the rules as I intended :)
Hopefully we can persuade plenty of other fumbblers to give it a try :D

I'll play...but I probably need some severe tutorial as I couldn't even figure out how to get the tutorial files to work.

Sure. Elfball has an in game chat but while you're still setting them up it is immensley useful to have realtime chat rather than attempt to rely on the forum or PMs. Its also handy for finding games.
Chat Guide
Hydra IRC - anyone who wants to get into the backup chat room will need an IRC client. This is a nice free one although there are plenty more.
To join chat simply start Hydra (or whatever) and create a user identity when it prompts you, this is essentially to define your nickname in chat. Then go to file and select new server. Scroll down to "freenode" and then select "irc.freenode.net". Once you have done this it will open a new window (within Hydra). Close the channel link popup (if you get it to list the chat rooms you will have to leave it for a while). The type "/join fumbbl" to take you to the correct chatroom. Once you're there just speak to myself or brownrob... or anyone else who knowns what they're doing with VASSAL (and prefereably elfball).
Elfball Client Downloads
VASSAL (direct download link)- click on this and it should automatically install the latest version of vassal. I cant remember if it creating a desktop icon was automatic or not so if it prompts you then having one is handy.
Elfball Module (again a direct link) - download this after downloading vassal.
Starting Vassal and running Elfball
When you start vassal it will give you a few options like "dive right in" or "take the tour".... select "dive right in". Then click "play module" and browse to find the elfball module you just installed. For the next few steps it wont show up as a window on your browser bar so if you highlight any other programs you will need to minimise them again.
It will then start this first by checking your gullability by asking for your "real name", enter your desired screen name instead and type in whatever password you fancy.
It then prompts you whether you want to look for a game online or play offline. You probably want to play online unless you're just messing around with the interface and dont have an opponent yet.
It now becomes a proper window again so will stop "vanishing" behind everything else. If you selected to play online you will now be in the main chat room... which will probably be empty unless you've arranged a game/tutorial.
If you run into difficulties then I can do some screenshots. Hopefully these will need to be done at some point anyway
