Chili-head talkOn a dare from my older son ... I tried the Blazin' Challenge from Buffalo Wild Wings.
| Quote: | | The “Blazin’ Challenge” is offered at some locations to patrons who can finish 12 of the hottest wings offered (wings covered with Blazin’ sauce) in less than 6 minutes. The rules are no drinking of any beverages, no eating other foods (such as ranch, bleu cheese, or celery), and no touching the face. Customers who complete the challenge are eligible to have their name and picture placed on the Blazin’ Challenge wall and are given a “Blazin’ Challenge” T shirt. |
According to the Scoville scale the sauce clocks in between 200k and 350k Scoville units. ( http://www.scottrobertsweb.com/scoville-scale.php )
Completed the challenge in 3 minutes 11 seconds.
With this one completed ... my son has 3 more lined up for me when I have time.
Challenge #2: Quaker Steak and Lube Atomic Wing challenge ... 6 wings, no breaks, no drinks, no other food .... Scoville rating ... 150k
Challenge #3: Wings Etc. Wall of Flame challenge ... 16 Wall of Flame wings ... no drink or other food item ... however no time limit. ( http://www.wingsetc.net/09Flame.html ) ... Scoville rating .. they don't say but probably in the 200k to 300k range based on the ingredients in the sauce.
Challenge #4: Bushido Spicy Tuna Roll challenge. Eat all 10 levels in one night ... no time limit as long as you finish in one sitting. Drink is allowed. ( http://www.bushidorestaurant.com/spicytunachallenge.html ) The number #8 roll is rated around 250k Scovilles ... not sure of #9 and #10.
All 3 of these are challenges that are relatively close to me. The Bushido challenge is about 2 hours away from where we go for summer vacation ... but might make the trip to try it.
Anyway ... if there are any other chili-heads on the forums ... just wanted to let you know I'm working on knocking down all the local challenges.

Final note ... picked up a bottle of Blair's Mega Death last week ( http://www.hollywoodsauce.com/Blair's_mega_death_w-_skull_key_chain,_5oz.-650.html ) ... now that stuff will let you know you are alive and kicking ... whew ... 550k Scovilles. Had some on some cheese pizza and definitely is something to eat with care.
My current favorite just for casual eating hot sauce to liven up food is Belches N' Burps Hot Sauce. Only available if you call them and ask for it. Pictured here: http://www.belchesnburps.com/pages/contact.asp ... Scoville rating is around 50k. But I find it makes Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, and mayo dips really good without making it an event to eat it.
That's all ... just having a chili-head moment and wanted to share.
Oh ... and the one hot challenge I've heard of that I'm definitely not ready for ... but maybe someday.
The Four Horsemen Burger served at Chunky's Burgers and More in California. Scoville rating ... somewhere between 850k and 1000k. You have 25 minutes to eat it and you can drink while eating it but after you finish you have to wait 5 minutes before you can take another drink to win. Not sure if I'll fly to CA just to do a hot challenge ... but maybe someday. ( http://www.scottrobertsweb.com/Scott-Recreates-the-Four-Horsemen-Burger )
----
Final note ... for those that don't know what the Scoville scale is ... its the amount of equivalent water that you need to add to a sauce or pepper extract to render it heatless to the taster. As an example. A Jalapeno pepper (one of the most known) has an average Scoville rating of 5k. This means that if you squeezed 1ml of juice from a Jalapeno that you would need to add it to 5000ml of water before someone would not realize you had added the Jalapeno juice. That's how the Scoville scale works.

Not a big spicy eater (hell, only started eating curries 2-3 years ago), but passed this on to our resident chilli-head at my club, to see what he makes of it!

I like spicy, but no much that it destroys my brain.
Sadly the local place at home that had my favorite wings doesn't exist in Springfield so I'm still on the hunt. We have a Buffalo Wild Wings...but the last time I was in there my waitress did not bring me any blue cheese or ranch, and didn't come to fill my drink until I literally stood up and yelled for her (and it wasn't busy, it was 3 in the afternoon.) So while my mouth burned for drink (because my wife had no soda either) my wings got cold. I'll give them another try tho.
Especially if it's a double dog dare.
I don't think our local sushi place has anything real spicy tho. That is outside of the normal spicy tuna, or the dynamite roll. They do have a spicy tuna pizza roll. They lay the rice flat, and fry? it until crisp on the bottom and then on top is tuna, chilis, tempura flakes, masago and god knows what else...not super spicy...but THE BOMB!

You are insane.
That's a whole loads Scovilles there.
Hottest thing I ever ate was some Chili sauce when I was on holiday in St Lucia about twelve years ago. I am - and was - an accomplished eater of curries so I thought I could take it. Not so much. This stuff was pretty much raw capescin.

I am heads and tails above all my friends and family though that's not saying much. I have had Crazy Jerry's Mustard Gas Hot Sauce (125k) but I don't really care for hot mustard sauces and have eaten raw Habanero peppers out of the garden (100-350k) but doubt they were on the high end of the scale.
Have to check the other sauces when I get home.
