Dark Lord's Multi-Part Humans

Just got these the other day and I am assembling them now.
These models are more fun that I thought they would be, and I thought they would be pretty fun!

I'm keeping my poses pretty simple; meaning I am using as little Pro-Create as possible, but I look forward to buying a few more sprues of these to make some more exotic poses!

The minis themselves are really cool and I can see a bunch of possibilities for expert modelers but more importantly, just like I thought, these minis are a great way for somebody without a lot of conversion skill to make a personalized team! There's infinite possibilities when you start mixing kits.

I would LOVE to see what I could do with these minis and my plastic zombies & skeletons! Or really any Grandma Wendy plastics!

Pics coming soon! (I want to at least prime them first)
Dark Lord

Okay some quick sneak previews...

Yikes look at that mold line! I better get my files out again!

I think when I am done I will be filling in some of the gaps with Pro Create but for the most part the pieces fit together well and won't need it. The head/neck joint is hidden and the waist looks like like it needs a line there because of the jerseys. The only place I would think people will need green stuff are the shoulders but that's too be expected and can even be minimized by clever use of the shoulder pads.
Thom

Glory Hog poses! Most of them look like they are posing for the fans. I look forward to seeing them completed!

Luckily, you don't have to look far... you don't even have to leave the site! ;)

The parts sprues are at the bottom.

All of the pieces can also be found under the conversion sprues area of the store.

BTW Tom these will be done very soon. Possibly the end of the week, although if I don't get them done by Friday I have a wedding to go to on Saturday and a party to attend on Sunday, but I will finish them up by Monday or Tuesday, I hope.

My whole work load got thrown out of whack because I forgot that I had promised to donate some art for an AIDS charity auction. I was asked at my wedding, so of course I completely forgot about it. Since we moved all of my art is packed up still, so I had to scramble something decent together at the last minute.

So, they are coming soon, I promise!

Heh, almost forgot about that... and that was my suggestion, IIRC!

It just came up on the "DL Sketches..." thread, though: what are the chances of seeing the team deal on 16 figures worth of sprues again?  I have no idea when I might get to it, but like I said in my other post in that thread, I do intend to finish my own multi-parts one day but don't think I like some of the poses I'd put together anymore, so I'd think about the possibility of getting a new team's worth to start over.
MyKi#1

Ah cool I'm going to have to dish out some dough for those babies, i need a rival for my Middle Kingdoms team.
obviously the phigs are multi part but are they multi pose???
DL Cant wait to see your team fully finished.

That's really up to you.  You have 2 types of legs styles: standing and running; you get 4 arms each for left and right, with 2 bent and 2 straight for each side; there's 1 each of body and head, and 1 type of shoulder pads with a full set of 2 pads per figure. All of DL's figures above are using pretty much stock parts, for the most part, and illustrate the variety of poses you can make with parts straight off the sprue -- and in my opinion, he's already done an impressive job demonstrating the variety that's available with the sprues as they come.

I'd done my own multi-part human in the fall of '07, but I was doing mine as a special project for which I wanted things to be more personalized.  It can be seen here:

http://artistsunited.myfreeforum.org/sutra18829.php&#18829

That post has a lot of pictures, along with the explanation of why I put so much extra effort into it.  I did extra conversion work on the available legs and arms to expand the variety even more -- my guys are diving, jumping, cutting, kicking, etc.; I also modified the bodies so as to vary the heights and weights of each player.  I won't lie: it was a lot of time and a lot of work, above and beyond what a multi-part team already needs to begin with.  But it would be up to you to determine if you'd be satisfied with DL-style poses(*) or if you'd want to take them farther.

(*) - Again, don't get me wrong -- DL's guys look great; my phrasing is in no way meant to imply that mine are necessarily "better" in any way. We simply had different reasons for taking different routes, that's all.
MyKi#1

lahatiel your guys are sweet aswell, still reading that thread.
I'm wondering where the torsos are from i couldn't find them in the conversion part of Impacts site.
lahatiel

They actually are the torsos off the sprue.  But I didn't want the half-jersey, separated style of body you get from the normal leg/body combo, as seen on DL's figures, because that style didn't fit with the real-life team I was trying to recreate.  So I just pinned the normal bodies to the legs -- after either filing the pieces down a bit to make shorter players, or adding to layer of thin plasticard between the pieces to make the taller players -- and then I used ProCreate to fill in the lower half of the body and smooth it out.

I'd linked directly to the post that had my put-together, primered figures as the end result, but if you go to the very first post of that thread, you'll see some preliminary shots of unfinished, unprimerd guys -- in those shots, you can see the grey ProCreate putty I used in filling out the normal body pieces.
MyKi#1

Sorry, they come with the arms, legs, heads and shoulderpad sprues??? I'll have to have another look in the online store.

lahatiel

The body is on the sprue with a head and two pads.  It's listed as "Head, Torso, 2 Shoulder Pads" in the store:

http://www.impactminiatures.com/i...=philphigs_profile&id=PP_MPH1

The two top pieces are the shoulder pads, the head is lower left, and the torso is lower right.
MyKi#1

Ah sick i think it read head and shoulder pads in the store but i couldve mis read it.

Dark Lord is drowning in catch-up!

I had some problems with my cpap machine and it really rocked me. One of the disadvantages to having been diagnoses and treated for sleep apnea is when that treatment isn't working correctly you aren't used to functioning in that state. For the last month or so I have been a zombie; a cranky zombie! And last week I finally went and got a new sleep study done, just waiting on the results so I can get my machine calibrated.

Right now I am estimating that I will have them all painted and photographed by early Feb.  It is a priority because Tom was kind enough to give me these on the condition that I paint them! Eeeek!

The work load for the last month has piled up fast!    And then there's the fact that driving has been risky at best.
skatingtortoise

group hug!

didnt want to heckle, glad to hear youre on the mend rather than the reverse, and that youre as perky as ever ;)

although now i have an image of a bionic zombie dark lord. i must make a team!
Dark Lord

I have this.

I would like to have this.
Thom

I use the Swift 2 mask myself. I am bearded so getting a mask to seal is difficult, the Swift 2 uses nasal pillows, fitting on the upper lip to the nose.

I still fight with it now and then, but I am getting used to my APAP. (Adjusting Positive Air Pressure) It monitors my breathing and adjusts it's output accordingly, it also has EPR, (Exhaust Pressure Relief) which cuts back pressure when you exhale.
Dark Lord

Yeah, I have that on my machine. C-Flex technology or whatever. I use a full face mask because I have some sinus problems and a deviated septum. I've been popped in the nose a couple times.    I can hear you guys now..."Not you, DL!"

I was just scribed a positive pressure of 18,    and apparently I stopped breathing an average of 60 times a minute.   I'm well in the severe range.
skatingtortoise

i hope this isnt a painting related problem...
Dark Lord

Well it can really interrupt painting! I have fallen asleep with brush in hand more times than I can count. I've had to strip and repaint minis several times because I fell asleep and dropped them onto the palette or the brush slipped across its face or some other stupidity.
Darkson

My wife wants me to go to the doctors about my breathing at night.   She says (and I have no reason to doubt her) that when I'm deep asleep, I stop breathing for 2, 3 or 4 minutes at a time (at which point she nudges me to make sure I'm still alive).  Thing is, it doesn't make me tired - I feel like I get a good nights sleep.
Dark Lord

You may not realize it. I went 15 years or so not realizing it. My GF's and others told me about it but I ignored it. I didn't really even have a problem staying awake until around 2001 or so when I went back to school and gained weight rapidly. As soon as I stopped "working" for a living I ballooned up out of control and the doctors said it was partially due to sleep apnea. (It was also partially due to my "beer & pizza" lifestyle no longer being offset by working in a steel mill )

However, it's more than just about a good night's sleep. It's hard on your heart, and can cause all sorts of other problems like high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, memory problems, weight gain, impotency, headaches, personality disturbances, and sudden death!

Get it looked at!
Thom

I was experiencing 173 events an hour, thats a pause in breathing of ten seconds or more per event. The PAP (Positive Air Pressure) prevents me from snoring and the A (adjustable part) cranks up the pressure automatically if I do pause. My father lives with one as well, in fact he has had his for roughly fifteen years now.
skatingtortoise

so...will they work with these heads or not? :P

I'd sure get it looked at Simon. It didn't do anything physically to me for a long while, then all of a sudden BOOM. I was dead tired all the time. And the physical pain of muscles suffering from lack of oxygen at night.
It's really a beast once it kicks in. And consider that it has already started to go to work ruining your heart...

My number was only 66 times an hour, but my cousin was at 150.
Dark Lord

MJ, you're a choker too?!   Well that's proof that you don't have to be chubby, eh?

I just got the call from my results from my current test, and to set up an appointment. They said that they probably are gonna up me from a CPAP with C-Flex to a Bi-PAP.    And that my recommended pressure was "very high" and that I'd have to talk to my doctor about it.

So hearing that I did a dumb thing. See awhile back, I figured out how to adjust the pressure on my machine, so I went in there and cranked up from 15 to 19 and made my C-Flex a 3.

Now I feel like I have a bruised chest...which I probably do!

No, no you are looking at this all wrong. If she is constantly waking you up, that means she is always waking up. This makes her grumpier.

So you sleep -> she sleeps -> happy wife -> happy Darkson.

Just something to think about.

This man knows what he is talking about. My wife and I got on much much better after I got my machine!
Norse

The Warden knows what she is talking about.. yes..

D'oh!

I knew that. Boy, my foot tastes delicious!
