Dead Like Me: Life After Death

I tried to find a Search function to see if there was a thread for this already but I couldn't find one. Am I blind, or is there no searching on CM?

Anyway, if anyone was a fan of the series I strongly recommend that you stay as far away from this movie as you can. The final episode of season 2 wraps up the series far better than this plastic turd ever could hope to.

I received the same warning and I ignored it, and now I wish I had listened. Ugh! It was painful. It would be like if your friend died, and then you heard he could be resurrected for just one day but when you hung out with him you realize it's not your friend...rather it's an approximation of his personality created by somebody who has never met him.

It would have been nice if somebody had explained the point of the show to the director. They missed the point on so many levels that what we get is just Dead Like Me in name only.

Spoiler:

Stuff that is horribly wrong:
The Plot! It revolves around Reaping and their new boss rather than life in general, or growing up and all that stuff that DLM is about. It deals with the Reapers and reaping and not even in a DLM kind of way. It's like a Hollywood murder mystery or something. IMO DLM was all about the fucked up time in your life where you shift from being a kid to an adult. You grow up and join the ranks of the working folks and surrender just a little bit of your soul. We all find some way to hang onto that bit from our childhood...or we don't. But how George does that is what the show was all about. This piece of garbage is about how awesome it is to be a Reaper and oooh look we have a villain. Seriously, there's a fucking "villain." Gah!

The Characters! Nobody in the film behaves in a way that makes any sense! And if they do, it's like silly caricatures of the characters we have come to love. Mason acts like the worst of his tool side throughout the whole film, Roxy scowls and shoots people, Daisy fucks a couple people...and then blows her big return to acting by getting drunk before going on stage...WTF?!
And speaking of Daisy, the new actress playing her was TERRIBLE!!

We're also introduced to George at the begining of the film; a George who is 5 years dead and has accepted her life as a Reaper. However when the time comes she doesn't hesitate to reveal herself to Reggie. And unlike the established problem of forgetting what to say a Reaper tries that, she blurts it out just fine.
Also, Reggie and her mom are like buds now. The mom is totally compassionate and nurturing. What the...?

Oh and that villain? If you can figure out what his evil plan was, please come back and inform me. It made absolutely no sense, and seemed like something Blofeld would have come up with after smoking an ounce of pot.

Happy Time was completely wrong. The office was done out in warm colors and had lots of plant life and earth tones. None of the dreary grays and flourescent light was present at all. I never thought the colors and tone of Happy Time was all that subtle...but apparently the director missed the symbolism. What do you expect from the director that gave us theatrical masterpieces like "Critters."

There's so much more I could complain about, like why none of the Reapers really seemed all that interested in finding Rube, or what happened to make George lose her powers, but I'll end here.

If you have seen this movie, feel free to join the whine fest. The dug up something I loved and pumped it with agonizing undeath...so sad.

Seriously if you love the series as much as I do and haven't seen this film, stay far far away from it!  <---There aren't enough of those to express how this movie made me feel.

If you love the series, we could talk about how awesome it is in this thread too. I mean why dwell on the bad, right?

I was said that the show only made it 2 seasons .... it was a fun show.

One of the things about the show that really resonated with me was how it saw the world. One of the very subtle themes, or at least a theme that I easily read into it, was that we are not the unique beings that we think we are, and want to be. We are all very much alike, and our fears, desires and even personalities are much more cookie-cutter than we are willing to accept.

The show portrays humans as having narrow vision and categorical personalities, while at the same time showing how our individual spirits make us able to overcome small obstacles.

Another theme that I took from it was how not living your life means you are dead, regardless of your heartbeat. That's easy one to get from it...but a good one nonetheless.

Also, the humor in that show was like a perfect side dish to an entree. It was understated and light, but it was a perfect compliment in just the right amount.

Dead Like Me ranks in a three-way tie with Firefly, and The Young Ones as my favorite show of all time. Sad that all three have very few episodes.

I'll slaughter the spelling of his name .... but I also loved Manny Pantankin in that show.

He's come a long way form Domingo Montoya.

Too funny, Tom.
Mandy Patinkin   Inigo Montoya

Have to agree he has come a long way. If you ever get a chance to see him in concert...has a great voice and a great performer.
