Elfball Legacy Team 2008. Participation Thread. Sign up!

As per the voting, the 2008 Elfball Legacy Team will be the Siringit.  The team colors will be Orange and Blue.  Please post in this thread with the mini you would like to contribute.  You have to buy your own mini.  By contributing, you are willing to buy a mini, paint it, base it and mail it to me (your own postage).  You will not get your mini back (I think everyone knows this, but if there are some new painters out there I wanted to spell it out).  I will post a list of who is assigned what mini.  Because we would like to have a "full team" when the fun is finished, I would like to suggest that we select mini's based on the team roster found in the Elfball rules.  While everyone may love the Tantor model and want to paint him up, we don't need 12 of them.  However this project is first and foremost for fun and community comraderie, so you will be allowed to paint whatever model you wish.  Just my humble request that you consider the roster when selecting so the winner can actually play the finished team.

As far as the deadlines, here is what I see.

Mini Selection completed by August 30.
Sept. Oct. Nov. order and paint your mini.
Ship the mini so it is in my hands no later than December 12th
The drawing for the winner will be December 13th
I will ship the mini's to the winner durring the week of December 15th
The mini's should arrive just in time for a Merry Christmas to the Winner.

Does that timeline seem reasonable to everyone?

I would like to request the help of one of the Impact partners.  I would like one of them to draw the winner.  Seems fitting and fair to me.

Also, throw out some suggestions for basing when you post.  Just my opinion, but I think if we all base in the same color the team looks more cohesive.  I'm not talking about how you do the base, that is up to you.  Just what color the plastic rings should be.  I also think everyone should put their name on the base some how.  Again, not a requirement, but I think it really adds to the team and the fun.

Every player will have a number.  Numbers will be your choice, first come first serve.  No duplicate numbers allowed.  If you really want a particular number, you can try to convince the owner to trade with you.  But if they don't want to, then you have to pick a number not selected.

Finally, I want to express THIS IS NOT A PAINTING CONTEST!!!!  This is for fun.  Now we do want everyone to take their time and do their best, but do not think that you are not welcome because you are not a good painter.  This is a community project and is for enjoyment of the participants.  You are part of the community regardless of modeling experience and are encouraged to join.  Do your best work and have fun doing it.  There will be no judging of any kind.  For fun only!!!!

When it comes time  to ship your mini to me, I will send my address to you through pm.  I will do the same for the winner.  Addresses will be kept out of the public.

So pick your mini and let the fun begin!

I am interested in doing a hippo.  I am open to trading if someone else really wants a hippo.

Dibs on number 9 for my guy.

I like a light green color for my bases.  I pick a green that matches the Grandma Wendy static grass that I like to base my figures with.

Now that I think of it, maybe we should pick a base color from a major paint supplier so they are all consistent.  Any opinions?
Dark Lord

I would like to do the Hyena since it came from my sketch please...that is unless the sculptor is involved in this thing and would like to call dibs. If that's the case my second choice is the Tantor.

As far as bases go, I am willing to paint them any color, willing to do base ring color coding etc, but I'm sorry I don't want to pay $3 + s&h to buy a special color of green paint when I have 7 or 8 bottles of perfectly good green paint on my bench.  And I refuse to buy Grandma Wendy paints at all and those would be the only ones available to me locally besides the acrylic paints at Hobby Lobby. Sorry

I don't mean to sound like a princess, but I just don't believe that there is any difference in quality in the paints made specially for miniatures and those made for "crafts."

That said, I can match any color you want.
brettness37

I'd like to do the Rhino. #37
GalakStarscraper

I'm sure we can help with the random winner selection.

Do as normal ... put everyone in a spreadsheet ... 2nd person involved gets a copy.  Person picking never sees the spreadsheet and picks number from 1 to x and the person in that row of the spreadsheet wins.

Tom
Spiky

Could I put dibs on the warthog please?

For basing could I suggest leaving the ring black, with the number facing forward and the painter's name at the back?

I should be clear.  I didn't mean we should all buy the same color.  I meant we should pick one that everyone could "have access to" for color matching.  I myself use a Walmart Craft paint leaf green for my bases.  But there is just no way to describe that color to someone else.  If we say "paint the bases like scorpian green", everyone can look that color up or get suitable reference material.   For now, let's just all vote on the color we like and we'll pick from there.  It wasn't my intention to force anyone to buy anything.  Just an attempt to make the bases homogenous.

I use this chart a decent bit

Don't forget to throw numbers our there gang too.
Mephisto

I would like to paint this mecat:

Number 11 will do for me.
Spiky

Ok - can I have No. 7 for the warthog please, he reminds me a bit of David Beckham...
Stout Youngblood

Mantis for me. #11.

Edit: Didn't catch that it was already taken. How about #1, then.

Could I do the other meerkat - might as well make him number 12

I'm in for the Cape Buffalo, #13.

Hi!

This is my first post in this forum, so I first of all I'd like to introduce myself! I live in Madrid and I'm a friend of Mephisto, so that's how i came to know about this iniciative, and if possible I would like to be part of it!

I would like to paint the Elephant (I think nobody have chosen it), with number 14. I you want, I can upload a couple of pictures of miniatures I've painted, in case you want to check my level!

Hi Chou!

No 12 has been already taken!
chou

hum...12? who said 12?

I've edited my message, so if number 14 is available, i would like that one!
Dark Lord

Elfball teams don't have 14 players on them but otherwise I don't mind.
mattwhile

Hi

Can you put me down for the baboon please. As I'm writing this I can't remember what numbers have gone .
mattwhile

Now checked numbers. Can I do no. 4.

Edit.

Have now seen the baboon. Ideal something small and furry .
Spiky

Would I be right in saying that the Lion and Cheetah are the remaining players to be allocated at this stage?

Cheers,

Oh well, it's just that i like that number, but please feel free to change it for another number uf you want!
Dark Lord

Hey who am I to squelch artistic license?
Torg

If no one else will do it, I'll do the lion, #3 if that's not taken.

Just a question about the type of blue for the unis, is it going to be a dark blue (navy, or whatever)or a medium type blue (like royal blue)?

Blue and orange is a good combo, but we should have a fairly similar kind of blue or the team won't look like a team.  So is the team going to look like Da Bears and current Broncos (dark blue and orange) or like the old Broncos (Royal blue and orange).
I'm assuming that the blue will be the dominant colour, maybe I'm assuming wrong.  Is orange supposed to be the main colour?
Just wanted to get that straightened out.

Orange won the Primary color poll.  So I guess it should be considered the "main" color.  In the seconday poll thread, the Bears were mentioned, so I'm guessing the voters were thinking a dark Chicago blue.

Using this table , I am thinking the intended colors would be Fiery Orange/Blazing Orange and a Midnight Blue?  Everyone that signed up, please state your opinion on color.

Also remember we are not mandating any brand of paint, just using popular manufacturer color names for a reference.

And how you use the two colors is up to the artist.  It's your mini, paint it how you want it.
Dark Lord

Sounds good to me. I'll paint mine in Bears colors.

As far as main color and secondary color...IE are they Orange & Blue or Blue & Orange? I don't know how much it really matters, especially with the Siringit minis who don't have much clothing anyway. The Hyena wears a turtle shell and a loin cloth. Pretty much he only way to go is one will be orange and the other blue, huh?
Who knows, I may stripe the loin cloth.
Mephisto

So what? Should I paint him in orange and the armor and ropes in blue?

Or should I paint the ropes in blue and the armor in orange? There are some problems with the mecats...
Ted Striker

paint him as you think he should be painted.  There is no right answer.   The correct way is your way.
Torg

A suggestion would be to paint the shoulder pad and strap one colour  and the loin cloth the other colour, but like he said, it's up to you.

OK, so Bears colours it is, orange being the primary colour.
antipixi

I'm not a fan of the cheeah, so I'll take the cheerleader if that's ok with everyone.

If cheersleaders have numbers then I'll go with #83. (It's the number I try to get for any legacy team.)

Chris

P.S. DL - would you say no to being given an 83 player EB team? I know I wouldn't!
Ted Striker

I would say cheerleader doesn't need a number unless you would like to put one on your model.  However, 83 is reserved for you if you choose to work it in.

Hey DL,  what number would you like for your model?  Either I missed the thread with your request or you haven't made one.  Am I blind?
Dark Lord

I don't think I chose. I'll pick whatever is left or I'll take 10 for Eli or 14 for YA Tittle.
Lakrillo

Sign me up for the Cheetah then with the number 18 as it didn't seem to be taken.
Spiky

So do we just have the Gorillaur left to be picked now? Poor guy!
Dark Lord

I think majortusk did the paint job for the site didn't he? That means he would have an extra, so maybe we should get him in this? (That is if he isn't already.)
majortusk

I suppose you could convince me to paint up another Gorillataur.
Thadrin

I shall add a Meerkat.
I like Meerkats.
Ted Striker

don't forget number choice fellas....
majortusk

This gorillataur will be the answer for all, 42
Dark Lord

Don't panic!
lahatiel

Ah, but what is the question?
sjmiller

OK, so my question is: what ones are still available?  Can repeats be done?  I would be having help with this.  I pick and prepare minis and a roommate who is not allergic to the paints would paint it.  Is that acceptable?

I'd say that's fine, both in doing a repeat if necessary and making it a joint effort. Legacy teams are supposed to be about the participation and effort and being part of the community. You're part of the community here, so do whatever you can/want to participate -- everything after that is secondary.  :)
Ted Striker

here here lahatiel!

this is for fun.  Pick the character you like.  welcome aboard.
Spiky

No one's doing any sideline figures yet, for example the beauty, goblin ref, commentator or wizard!

By the way, my Warthog has been ordered!
Thadrin

My Meerkat will, once he's arrived and all that, be number 5.
sjmiller

Sorry I missed out on the picking deadline.  We got so tied up in preparing to perform at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival that we completely forgot about this!  Oh well, maybe next time!
Ted Striker

jump in if you want to...  other than the December drawing deadline.. the others are flexible...

I do want to hold firm to the December deadline for drawing the winner.  IMHO, if we don't hold a hard line on that one, the procrastinators out there (me included) won't get hopping.

So if someone wants to participate, and can make the last deadline, they are more than welcome to join.

This is all for fun and not hard dates...... except for the last one....

Merry Chrstmas Elfball community :).

sjmiller... name your fig :)
Stout Youngblood

Starting painting the Mantis. Should hopefully be done in a couple of weeks. Will post pictures when I am done.
Mephisto

I have my miniature, too. I'm going to coat it now.
Ted Striker

mine is finally on order and on its way......

another note...  I really don't have a good camera.  So if you have the ability to take pictures, do so and post before you mail them off.  I am asking around to my friends to see who can take a group photo for us in December.  But as of now, please don't count on photo's from me.  I'll do my best though.
Ted Striker

just a thread bump........

how's everyone coming.  I got my hippo assembled tonight....

so who's going to be the first to post a picture of their finished contribution.

We're coming up on 5 weeks or so of painting time left....
Lakrillo

Been busy painting elfs for a tournament that was last weekend. Will start to fix the mini tonight i guess... cleaning mouldlines and undercoat.
Guess i can post WIP pics to as soon as there are something to show. :D
Mephisto

I'm going to start painting this week. it has been lying around basecoated for a week.
Torg

Lion has been painted with base colours, just have the shading, highlighting and details to go (of course this is the stage that takes the longest for me).   I'm hoping he'll be done before Nov. (but no promises)
Dark Lord

I'll paint mine the day before it's due.
Mephisto

Ted, where are you from?
Ted Striker

Canton Ohio, USA
Spiky

Hi All,

I've nearly finished my warthog, just got to work on the fur some more, then varnish & static grass...

Here's some pictures - apologies they came out a bit yellow, I'll take some more once I've fully finished in more natural light and replace the links:

Any comments welcomed!
Ted Striker

very nice.

good to see the first of my mini's is done.

'cause I'm sure I'm going to win :).

Teasing aside... excellent work.
Thom

WooHoo!! Well done!
Lakrillo

Nice paintjob...
Spiky

Thanks Guys!

All finished with the painting and varnishing now, just need to add Static Grass & post to Ted.

I'll try taking some better pictures in the daylight at the weekend.

Ted, could you please PM me your full address?

Thanks
Steven
chou

Hi!

sorry, it's been a while since I last posted.

Here's my miniature so far.

I've been thinking on adding more light to the skin, but I would like to know your opinion first.

Saddly, I've come accross a problem I've never seen before. there are a few "cracks" in the painting, and I don't know what to do; I'm afraid that repainting it could be a problem. In any case, please check the picture and let me know you opinions.

thanks!
Ted Striker

I've never seen anything like that either, but I'm not the most experienced painter in the world either.  So I don't know what to suggest.

Maybe the varnish coat, if you would apply a few coats, would seal it up and you would never notice.  Elephant skin isn't at all smooth really, so minor imperfections may not be an issue.  I really can't tell from the picture.

What did Bob Ross use to say?... maybe the cracks could be "Happy little accidents".

Your work looks nice though.  A fine addition to the team.
Dark Lord

Two questions:

1. What sort of paint did you use and what was your process?

2. Are you sure the cracks weren't present on the mini?
chou

Thanks for the comments!

The paints I used were from Grandma Wendy, the Foundation paints, and the Vallejo paints. But I now don't know if the cracks were already in the miniature or not...in any case, if the winner wants it, I wouldn't mind painting another Trantor in substitution to this one!
Spiky

Hi Chou

I really like your Tantor, I wouldn't have a problem winning that at all

Cheers,
Spiky
Mephisto

So, how are the other minis doing? I worked yesterday on mine. I hope I can finish it this week.
Ted Striker

just a thread bump.

How's everyone coming.  We are coming in on around 2-3 weeks left (when you factor in shipping time).  For everyone who is not in the USA (sorry, I haven't been keeping track), please leave a little extra time for shipping to me.  I've only shipped something to Europe once and have no idea how long it takes.  I'm in USA, Ohio.

When you are ready to ship your miniature, pm me and I'll send you my address.  I just don't want to post my home address publicly in the forum.  So far Spiky is the only one that has asked.

My hippo is looking good.  I need to highlight his skin and do some detailing.  Hopefully I'll be done by the weekend.  I'll try to get a photo posted, but my photography skills suck and my camera isn't the greatest.  I'll try though.
chou

Hi,

My Trantor is ready to be shipped. I'll wait for Mephisto to have his miniature ready so we send both at the same time (Mephisto, I *think* I'm going to Spain this weekend, If so I'll give you the Trantor so you can send it when you're done with yours, ok?).

I'll try to finish it this week. The painting has begun, but it has still at least 3 hours work to do...

Erm... I'm travelling to Germany next saturday, so... I don't know if it's easier to ship it separately or you speak to Rebeca or Eki.
mattwhile

My baboon is nearly ready, just have to finish the base.
Dark Lord

When are they due?    I'll do mine this weekend.
Spiky

Thread Bump!

Does anyone else have a picture of their model they can share?

Cheers
Spiky
lahatiel

Not yet, as I've been fairly busy since returning from my honeymoon three weeks ago.  But while I will be bumping right up against the deadline date, in all likelihood, I do still plan on finishing mine.
Dark Lord

Soon!
Stout Youngblood

Same here. Almost done but have had a nasty virus that wouldn't let go.
mattwhile

Will be posting my effort in the morning. Sorry but I am unable to get a photo of it. I am quite pleased with how the baboon came out. I went with an orange fur with the dark blue armour. I hope whoever wins it is pleased.
Mephisto

I just finished mine today. I only have to varnish it and to finish the base. I think I'll do it between tomorrow and friday.

The problem I only see is with shipping, that it will take at least 2 weeks to arrive to the US. Would you approve the following?

I make some shots of the miniature to show that it is finished and when the lottery to decide the winner has been done, I'll ship the miniature to the winner.

Would that be OK?

If not, I'll ship it, but I cannot assure that it will arrive to the date... but I'll try
Ted Striker

I'm fine with that as long as everyone else is.  Winner will have to give their address out to two people then.  But it doesn't bother me one way or the other.  Any objections gang?
Mephisto

We only have pictures from two miniatures and Chou's one can't be seen. What about the others? How are u doing?
Mephisto

My Mecat is looking at me asking when I'm going to do the base to be completely done. But he has to wait, till I finish the introduction of one paper... so...

How are the rest of you doing?
lahatiel

Sadly, even after my last message, I find myself having to bow out.

I simply got too late of a start, getting back into gaming stuff after my honeymoon, and find that I'm running up against deadlines that are nearer than I thought as far as getting stuff produced for a tournament I'm helping organize for that other FF game. Despite my best intentions, the time has come to be realistic about this, and even if I were to try to stretch the deadline, I just wouldn't be able to get a figure done in the upcoming several weeks.
Ted Striker

My hippo is done.  I'll try to post pictures later.... but they won't be that great
Mephisto

Finished!

http://mephisto84.wordpress.com/2...1/27/impact-legacy-team-siringit/

BUT, I'll re-do the base, because as you seen it has suffered some damage at the borders and the letters aren't ok.

I'm not too proud of the miniature. I knew that my painting skills weren't the best and that I had limited time, but next time I shouldn't try white (I still have to practice a lot). But well, the figure is done and I'm happy to have it ended just at time.
Stout Youngblood

I should be finished by Monday.
Ted Striker

Nice Mecat.  I also like your Chaos Dwarfs.
Mephisto

Ted Striker wrote:

Thanks. Mecat is mine, chaos dwarfs have been painted by Dani Sadgar. And I have to tell that his camera isn't good, so the miniatures are going to be better than in the pictures. I'll make photos when I'm back in Barcelona, where they have been shipped.
Dark Lord

Mine may be just a tiny bit late on the shipping. Somehow in my move I have lost all of my spray on clear coat. No testor's dullcoat, not even any fixative for my charcoal drawings. Can't find it anywhere!

So tomorrow while I am running errands I will get some supplies and coat him. Then it will be a race to the post office to get him in the mail. He should get there by the 5th if I'm lucky. If not probably the 6th or 8th at the latest.
Stout Youngblood

Hey, guys, came back from the doctor's office today and have severe bronchitis (sp?). It may take me a couple of days to get my figure in the post. Please delay the pick until it arrives, okay?
Mephisto

Stout Youngblood wrote:

Just take some pictures of the mini, and don't worry about the shipping.

Ted, could you edit the first post and add the pcitures of the finished minis in the first post, so we can see who has finished it and who doesn't.
Ted Striker

Well, pictures may make the thread too big.  But I will edit the first thread and keep track of what mini's I have recieved.   That's a very good idea.

Although none have arrived yet.  I think I have Spiky's at the post office.  I got the pickup notice yesterday and my wife is picking it up today.  So right now I'll say I have 2.

I reserved the second thread...  I'll try to put all the pictures there.  I don't have any web space right now, so for anyone that has posted their mini, I'll just use the link they already posted.  I have a company Christmas party tonight, so it won't get done today, but I'll knock it out shortly.
Mephisto

I'll upload them to my space this night.
Mephisto

By the way, when the winner is drawns, Chou and me will sent them, ok?

I have my doubts... if we haven't ship the mini yet, does that mean that we aren't in the RAFFLE?

By the way:

Hi!

my mini should be (or at least I hope so) flying to Canton, 'cos I shipped it last week; they told me to wait two weeks just in case (it seems the postal guy goes from Spain to USA swimming   )

In any case, my Trantor will be coming home soon, this time with your miniatures as travel partners!
