I'm sold.
Just one request - "throw" a dice or two at the contraption, to simulate what normally seems to happen to models here (they attract dice!). I'm assuming the magnets will be stronger than that (a normal throw, not a full-scale wanging!)?

I'm assuming the magnets will be stronger than that (a normal throw, not a full-scale wanging!)? | I am amusing when using magnets that the average person will be gluing the legs onto the base and the body to the legs. But have the arms and cockpits be magnet based. The only reason I did a magnet joint to the body and legs is so that Fen only needed to paint one copy of each part to get all the images for the store.
I'll see if I can film a contraption with a body/leg magnet joint surviving dice thrown at it. However ... I would like to say if I was actually going to use a magnet joint there instead of a glue joint ... I'd probably use a 1/4" magnet instead of the 1/8".
But I'll see what I can do to show durability.

Hmmm ... I had already sent the Contraptions to Fen before I posted my last post ... forgot I had done that.
So when Fen gets them ... maybe he can give an update on that note.

I'll give them a reasonable test and see how strong the magnets are. From the film they looked reasonable enough, you do seem to apply more force than thrown dice would generate when pulling the parts apart.
Parts apart. Hee!

Well it looks really cool.I am new to this game. (Thats the Sculpting miniatures game)
Forgive me if this concepts been around for a while but I've only been looking at miniatures and sculpting since October 07 so I'm still a cherry.
As I don't know if the inter-changable magnetic pieces is something thats been done before but it gives me a whole lot to think about as I learn a trade.
I'd see it a massive catch / hook for some gamers.
Fantastic for the contraptions and as it adds another string to the sculptors bow, I would certainly have to think of "if a multi swap piece may add extra depth and feel to any miniatures I want to sculpt".
Fantastic.

I love the modular concept.
A friend of mine used this for mutations so he would not have to make a new fig each time a player recieved one.

A friend (tourney-going 40K player) uses magnets on all his tanks and dreadnoughts. Ideal not only for swapping configurations, but also for simulating battle damge.
And I'm sure this post is of no interest for 99.9% of viewers.

I want to do the same thing with the later Neck-row-munda* minis (which have multi part weaponry) and Moored-heim*. Those games are utter murder for upgrades. But I'm also considering building some blank mutant templates for use in fantasy football games, so I can switch about the mutations as and when the mini upgrades.
Plus I can entertain myself mid match by moving the arms about on the mutant and making him shout at the opposing players.
(*Yeah those are misspelled Grandma Wendy games, thought I'd err on the side of caution).

Very cool indeed. | Magnets are already in the store ... just haven't been able to sort the store database yet (so they are alllllll the way at the bottom of the Basing store).
For once since I took over as President Impact! is not in a situation where cash is something we desperately need to pay the bills on my desk. So in the past I've added the figures to the store as soon as I had them in my hands in the USA and then shipped the UK/Europe orders from the USA for the first couple weeks until Gavin's supply came in.
This week... I'll be adding them to the store ... but only the US and CAD purchasing will work. I'll turn on the Euros/UK/OZ buttons for the items as soon as Gavin gets them in ... which will be somewhere between the 15th and 22nd of February based on current shipping times.
So expect an announcement by end of week for them being in the store.

Galak | Its past midnight but I have most of the new stuff in.
I've added 26 new miniatures into the store ... I have 4 more to get in (2 Samhaino Scarecrows and 2 Black Rock Hobimps) before they are all in but I'm working on it. Painted images are in process from 3 different sources.

Taxes is until April 15th (but I start a month sooner than that department also).

Okay the last 4 figures are in. As soon as I get painted images I'll replace the bare metal ones. I didn't have time to black wash them either ... sorry ... had to make the best of the time I had.

Sweet! Under the circumstances, everything looks good. Some of the guys in my league have dragged their feet a little bit about a group order and I was just about to start prodding some more; hopefully, seeing some of the new stuff might spur some extra interest!

btw, I have the contraptions here now. They're fantastic looking with a lot of humour in the pieces. Especially the weaponry.
Plus they are articulated, so I can move their arms and make gun/chopping noises!

Stonebridge Games is going to have Impact! goods at GenghisCon and I know he has ONE Gnome Elfball team. So if you want the Contraptions through him ... you might need to make a beeline to his booth at GenghisCon.

I know, I'm one of the people running demos for Stonebridge . Not buying until after the con is a risk-reduction play: if they sell during the con, I'll order another set (and hopefully see the first set across the table at some point!); if they don't, I'll pick them up and the store isn't out as much money.
Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have them in my hot little hands right now...

Any more info on this. I am working on building mine now and I'm interested in the relative strength of the magnets. I'm concerned that the 1/4" magnets will be too strong of joint (and eventually start chipping paint with the force required to pull them a part) and yet the 1/8" magnets too weak make the joint "functional". I should also mention I use magnets in the bases and use the storage cases with the metal plates. Another issue for me is going to be is that the waist joint must be stronger than the bond between the base and the metal plate or everytime I pick them up, I will pull them apart.
Well looks like I answered my own question, I pretty much have to use 1/4" magnets for waist joints. I'm still very interested in any hands on reports you guys could give. I think it will really help the rest of us on our own assembly.
I'd love to hear a "match report" with them. Maybe play a turn or two and see if the magnetic joints cause any problems or pains while actually using them as game pieces. That would be valuable info as well as interesting.
I think I'll make another thread over in Workshop to start discussing Gnome assembly. I also think it would be great if fen could chime in with some painting tips. As a novice painter, the first thing that popped into my mind when I opened my Gnomes was "how the heck am I going to paint these guys, they're so small."
