GenCon 08 Reports?

Come on now fellas, it's time to fess up the good stuff!

Update us already!

The Good, the Bad, the Ugly and the Awesome!  Fess it up!
GalakStarscraper

The Good:  The volunteers were incredible; the booth location was good; some new store accounts (3 different countries) and miniature contracts (1 company) were set in motion with handshakes.   As always a lot of great experiences.  The Persian Princess and the Fifth Element woman who strolled by the booth and the fishnet stockings and leather lady who watch Mad Jackel for sometime while he gave her a demo of Elfball.

The Bad:  Due to gas prices in the US and many people losing their jobs or currently under fire to possibily lose their job in ths USA ... some of the bigger spenders we had last year stayed home (or spent much less) so booth sales were down about 35% from last year even with a product range almost doubled in size.   We paid for the booth cost but just barely.

The Ugly:  Some women just should not wear almost zero clothes in public ... this is especially true for men who dress as women wearing almost zero clothes.

Now that sounds interesting!

I just got home...haven't even unpacked the car yet.

Lots to say...but it will wait.

It was super great meeting all the other fantasy football fanatics!! Mad Jackal is an intense guy!     , for some reason I assumed Lycanthrope was in his early 20's  , Tom never stops smiling  , Norse never stops cussing  , mr (& mrs!)schutte are crazy cool I wish I had time to meet mr as much as I had with mrs!
Solar Flare won the tourney and I have never seen a Bl00d B 0wl player adapt to Elfball as fast as he did...watch out for that one guys!

I placed 2nd with Mad Jackal in 3rd by a mere 2 points.*

*IMO the tourney rules need to be looked at, Mad Jackal dominated me, not only in casualties but is positioning. I won simply by holding the ball longer. The strategy was MJ's, I was merely clinging to life. Not a satisfying win at all.

I got lots of pics to share, and lots of stories to tell. This was my first time at Gencon so I have all the giddy enthusiasm that some of the others are jaded against.

**EDIT! I just majortusk's name here! What a cool cat! Mad painting skillz! I wish we had more time to talk! Next year I will sit down and paint a mini with you!

Oh and apparently I was mentally retarded for the con. My wife says that I seemed to be overwhelmed by the whole thing and it overloaded my brain.

She's still laughing about kicking my butt in Battletech.
Norse

yeah, I'm guaranteed to cuss every third word most of the time.. every second word when I'm in a good mood..
solarflare

I have to say that I had a great time playing elfball at Gencon.  It was nice meeting MadJackal and DarkLord.  The fact that I won the face off in every game was very helpful.
Dark Lord

It was cool meeting you do...even tho you handed me my a$$ on a platter.

Hi, I'm new, first post, blah blah blah...

Stopping by the Impact! booth at Gencon was probably one of the best things I did all during the event.  I learned a bit more about Elfball than I didn't know before, and was easily convinced to buy a copy of the game and a team (Divine Wind).

I can't remember each and every person I interacted with, but thank you for selling me the stuff, for giving me the demo, and for being a bunch of generally nice people.
Dark Lord

Well you either did your demo with a skinny guy or a fat guy.    Which was it?

Hey welcome to the message board! Tell us more about yourself and your experience with Elfball and/or Bl00d B0wl (or any other minis game.)

Actually if I'm gonna ask you to do that I should at least link you to this thread.

Skinny Guy or Fat Guy?  It was GenCon, its hard to tell!

Well, I'm the one that did the demo, good-naturally insulted the guy who designed the FF Living Rulebook, found the hex bases to use with my miniatures, and was the one that someone there at the booth bet I wouldn't come back

Ah you demo'd with me...the good looking one. (JK MJ!) I went to look for the hex bases and they were sold out! You must of got them all!

Don't worry, I bet you didn't insult Tom. He's been called much worse.
And you aren't alone in your feelings for the LRB and he knows that. Hence Elfball.

Good to meet you!

The girlfriend and I found those at the jeedubbyah bits booth thing near Crazy Egor's (at least I remember it being near CE) in their Big Bucket of Bases.  I had a number in mind (12) and struggled to get there.  Just as I found the 12th hex, she found three more.  I stopped looking right after that.

So, yeah, maybe I did buy them all.  If I had known that, I'd put a few back.

And it is a good idea to put Impact! minis on hex bases, though with some of the larger sculpts, I don't think they'll fit.  That is, I think they'll be too big for the hex bases.

I had some interesting experiences at GenCon, and even got to meet the folks at the Impact! Miniatures booth.  Saturday was my big day for escaping my booth, as I seem to recall.  I managed to get over and played a bit of a demo with Dark Lord, even managing to score a point!  We also talked about a flying version of Elfball, miniatures, and assorted other topics.  I rushed back later that day to pick up a few minis (beer barrels, the drunken friar, and the bardmaid), and came back again on Sunday to get some more of the same ones after my roommate claimed the ones I got as hers.  Who am I to argue?  She's better looking than me and can actually paint them.

Sunday when I went back to get the minis I realized that I did not have my own copy of Elfball yet.  Sadly, I also realized that I did not have enough cash to get it this time.  Being on a limited budget at GenCon is a cruel thing, but what can I do?

Dark Lord and his wife came by my booth on Sunday, which was very nice.  I think we may have to work together on that flying version of Elfball.  Could be a lot of fun.

Even though I spent most of the con at my booth, I still had a lot of fun, especially meeting all sorts of people.  My expeditions around the dealers room were tons of fun.  I got stopped a lot to take my picture, which added to the fun.  I saw amazing games, minis, and enough stuff that I wanted to cause several small countries to go into debt buying them.

Having a booth by the autograph area was a hoot too.  Seeing all the people getting excited about meeting my "neighbors" was sometimes laugh out loud funny.  SOme of the funniest were the guys getting thier pictures taken with the women wrestlers.  You would swear some of them had never been that close to a woman before!
