Good painters (with open schedules) NEEDED by Impact! !!!!Okay I'd like to get some figures painted up for the GenCon cabinet of our newest stuff.
But to be honest with you ... we've had really bad luck with our volunteer painters having life issues and not being able to get the items we send them finished in a shortess period of time.
Here is the deal that I'm offering. I will send you 2 copies of the miniature that you want to paint ... you paint one and send it back to me (photographing is really appreciated but not required) and you get to keep the other. I will send you PayPal payment to reimburse you for any shipping fees to get the figure back to me.
Timeline ... I HAVE to have the figure shipped to me NO later than July 24th. If you cannot do this so I can have the figure for the GenCon cabinet than please don't volunteer.
Also this is for our GenCon cabinet display so we need a decent paint job on the figure please. Not asking for Golden Daemon winning but most folks know if their painting skills are an okay standard or not.
Okay with all that said ... here are the figures that I need help getting painted and looking for volunteers.
If you are volunteerings ... please send me your address via PM so I can get these out to you ASAP ... painters outside US ... please allow 2 weeks for figures to arrive.
Okay that all said ... here are the 14 figures that I have up for grabs:
Siringit Warthog Midfielder (lahatiel volunteers)
Siringit Cape Buffalo Midfielder (lahatiel volunteers)
Siringit Baboon Midfielder (skatingtortoise volunteers)
Siringit Cheetah Safety (Fen volunteers)
Siringit Hippo Defender (Fen volunteers)
Siringit Mantis Thrower (Fen volunteers)
Siringit Hyena Thrower (Dark Lord volunteers)
Siringit Tantor (Dark Lord volunteers)
Deadling Wight #2 (brettness37 volunteers)
Deadling Star Player Mummling Ham-Butty III (brettness37 volunteers)
Black Widows Snakewoman Widowmaker with long body (Ted Striker volunteers)
Black Widows Snakewoman Widowmaker with coiled body (Dark Lord volunteers)
Fantasy Football Female #2 (sculpted by PF .. runner pose) (skatingtortise volunteers)
Fondu Minotaur (Dark Lord volunteers)
===
Note: you may volunteer for more than one IF you are going to get them finished by the deadline!!!!
Thanks for anyone who helps.

I definitely have time to do the Hyena, but could also probably work in more Siringit guys...if not the whole dang team.

I would like to volunteer. But most likely put me on the "only if we don't get enough good painters" list. I've gotten compliments on my stuff at FLGS and have been told I'm a "decent" painter, but I don't think my skills are up to the "good" standard you want.
I'm willing to buy a fig and do it for you.. that way you are out nothing if my painting isn't up to snuff....
Just interested in a chance to help impact.

I'll volunteer for the Mantis, Hippo and Cheetah players. I have some free time and I those are the kind of models I enjoy painting. I won't take more than that because of the delivery time issues.

Buffalo probably interests me the most... but not sure I would want one of my figures sitting next to a Fen paintjob. His stuff is great....
Snakewoman would be a second choice, sounds neat. I was thinking of Medusa in Clash of the Titans when I first read the list :).
All of the list look cool as well... Stick me where I'm needed and I'll be happy to help.
Thank you for the chance.

willing.... yes. But I'm a slow painter. I will dedicate time to meet the July 24th deadline for one, but not sure if I could get 2 done in that time. I think I could do two, but I couldn't guarantee it.
At this point I believe you need promises not maybe's.
Are the figures relatively similar? If you wanted the two painted the "same" (same team, skin colors etc) I could probably do that. If you want them to be different, I would be a little concerned about the deadline.
So if you need me, I will do two. I just don't want to let you or the company down.
I will do what Impact needs. Pencil me in if nobody else wants the second one. I'll get them done.
I already PM'd you as requested with my address.

I could do a pair of normal-sized teammates in a month -- no, I'm definitely not GD-quality, but if my work's up to par, I'd like to do the remaining two Siringit.
Samples from my various Legacy team efforts:

Now, assuming I do these, this will make four different painters working on Siringit -- necessary, to be sure, but is there some unifying color or element we can all try to tie in, so they all look better next to one another both in the case and on the website?

I either love it or hate it. I...just...don't know yet.
It is me or does it look like it fell out of Ren & Stimpy? Like I said, I don't know if that is good or bad yet. That is the first mini I have seen in a long time that has given me pause. Kudos on that, at least! When I am done laughing I will decide if I like it or not.
But that pic does beg the question why you need me to paint it if you already have one.

| Dark Lord wrote: | | But that pic does beg the question why you need me to paint it if you already have one. |
I don't have that miniature.
Fondu had a limited number of them cast up for the French crowd and a few others.
He's run out of the limited number he had cast up and decided he wanted to submit the figure to Impact! for our Targeted range to have more made and make some cash without having the hassles that selling and shipping is.
So that is a painted copy of the miniature from one of the guys over in Europe.
So while I could ask to use that image for the webstore ... its doesn't give me one to put in the cabinet all nice and pretty for GenCon.

From what I've seen of the sculpts there's not really any way to do this. I was going to go with a very natural looking kit, but I might have to wait for DL to reveal his paint job on one of them so I can match the kit.

I am matching colors with this image if you want to do so as well. (Although since our monitors are not calibrated it could still be off. )
Also I don't use Grandma Wendy paints (or any "miniatures" paints) so I don't know if I could match colors with you anyway.
|

It's not the shades that's the problem it's the kit. It's all natural looking wood with very little cloth. Just looking at the pictures of the Gorillitaur and Tantor I'm not convinced those colours will work right. But for the sake of keeping them in a similar scheme I'll give it a shot.
I personally was going to paint them with totally natural and muted colours but I'll work the green and yellow in. I just wanted to see how bright you were planning to go as I need to figure out what'll work.
|
Dark Lord
|
The Rhino's kit is made up mainly of a furry shoulder pad and a loin cloth.
Material can be dyed and IMO green and yellow are pretty natural colors.
As for wood, wood can be painted and often is. African warriors were very colorful.
Also if you painted the kit in natural earth tones it won't be distinguishable from the earthy tones of the animal fur.
Brown furry body + brown armor = invisible.
|
lahatiel
|
Yeah, I'd originally been thinking along the same lines as Fen -- by the sketches, I'll have one guy with a wooden pad and one with a fur pad. But DL's got a point, too, with the example pics he posted. I'll be planning on doing my loin cloths in yellow (like Green Bay's pants) and the shoulder pads in green (like their jerseys)... maybe yellow straps for the pads, to ensure they stand out from the players' own fur.
It looks like all the pads have nice flat spaces for numbers, so do we want to number these guys? If so, look at the link to my Deadling I'd posted on the second page, and see if you like how I did my numbering on him in a green-with-yellow scheme -- I'd just trade the green in the number for yellow, since the pad itself will be green this time.
Also, what about bases? I'm thinking brown with sand and static grass, similar to the Chaos Dwarf in the middle of the three links I'd posted (minus the writing, of course).

I agree that it wouldn't necessarily be invsible; my first thought for the warthog was a darker, ruddy brown fur and a lighter tannish, bamboo-style pad. But if Tom wants Packer colors, that's what I'll do. Maybe I can do the bamboo pad then do the top surface green with flecks of bamboo showing through and make it look like worn paint.
|
Dark Lord
|
I don't mean the armor is invisible. I mean the miniature is invisible...and not literally. Figuratively and in comparison to other miniatures. These minis are going into a cabinet, with other brightly colored miniatures in a giant hall with millions of other brightly colored miniatures. All earth tones will make a miniature that does not catch a buyer's eye very easily. They walk past the booth and skim the shelf and not even see your brown on brown mini.
This is true. It is design 101. There is no exception.
An image, miniature, sign or whatever that is done in wood color, brown fur, gray skin, and all natural earth colors will be less noticeable than an image, miniature, sign or whatever done in contrasting or complimentary colors.

Just got mine and I have to say I love the snake woman! She is fantastic!
The other two are good too but I have always liked nagas so the snake woman is cool. She will make a nice Widowmaker.
I also think she's gonna have some RPG appeal as well.
Fondu's Mino has definitely grown on me. I like it and I like it alot. The only issue it has is that it is sort of unique in style and doesn't fit with any other beastmen/chaos/minotaur type stuff I have.
I would love to see Impact do a Beastman team in this style. You could have this mino a handful of Wildebeastigors, smaller more common Gorez based off of Rams (ahem), and some fast and agile Satyr-like Gorez...they are like Gorez but not...they are Ungorez
All in Fondu's Ren & Stimpy style. THAT would be a cool team.

Well, just to provide the counter point I really, completely and utterly dislike the Fondu minotaur. If he puts out more himself and wants them in targeted Impact! that seems sensible, but I wouldn't go commissioning stuff in that style. It's like the Eureka frog minis. They provoke an exceedingly strong negative opinion from some people.

I gotta say, I feel the same about Fondu's figures, and the Eureka frogs. I'm not saying he's not talented, but it's just a matter of personal taste and his style simply does not appeal to mine in the least.
Now the Siringit, on the other hand... my Warthog and Cape Buffalo arrived Monday afternoon and these guys are nice. I don't think they pictures -- cool as they are -- do justice to the metal in my hand; I can't wait to get started on these guys.

As one of the lucky T5 few (and one of the even fewer who will actually have been at all of them) I am now drooling...five minis...this will be interesting.
Why do I have an awful feeling that some of us old lags may have inspired sculpts...probably just my paranoia (looks over at his Ramz and Lucy figs in the display cabinet...right next to the Woody Ogre). That and the fact that it is exactly the sort of thing that Ramz would do.
I am intrigued.
(BTW - any time Impact want some minis painted...I'm actually quite good these days. My Warmachine armies won best paint at a con back at Easter. Shame Ramz won't be at Tulips to see my Necro team, which I'm quite proud of...and they're fairly old now.)

Hum, I've got a slight problem with the mantis. Either I go with one of the more exotic species of mantis or we have a major skin/kit clash. Because themantis which most people think of is a yellow/green in colouration. Which is the kit colour.
Now I can still carry on and try to make it work, but it'll be a challenge. Or I switch to one of the other less well known colourations and have people mumble about how I haven't painted it like a proper mantis.
|
Darkson

Not necessarily:
Video link: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres...GLL,GGLL:2008-24,GGLL:en%26sa%3DN
And of course, there's the more exotic:
What's wrong with that for a Elfball player?
|
Dark Lord

Well if you paint him a bright fluorescent green and then packers colors you might get away with it.
Especially if you cheat on the yellow and make it less orange.
And especially of you keep the yellow parts inside of the dark green parts.

Fen .... I was thinking along the lines of Dark Lord on this on how he could be green and still work.
If that really doesn't work for you the brown mantis is okay. I think an orchid mantis would be really cool to see if it could be done justice .... but I agree that most folks would see an orchid mantis paintjob and go ????

Just some previews.
The Hyena is getting redone a bit. I didn't like the first result, and the Tantor is about half done but here's the others.
The naga will get static grass too but I want to give her scales a gloss coat first. And I had to do some photoshop magic on her because I was too lazy to change the back drop in my photobox.

Nice work, DL! They all look good, but I agree that the Rhino is probably my favorite.

Tomorrow was my deadline for figures to get shipped to me.
So I'm hoping everyone who had figures can snap pics of them to show everyone and get them to me soon.
Note: pics are not mandatory ... just really nice!

Mine will be photo'd tomorrow. They are done but for the naga's grass and the Tantor's grass and a few incidental touch ups. They will be finished tonight...or maybe today if no games go on.
I will have them in the mail tomorrow.

I'm not a tyrant.
A day late should be fine ... just want to make sure I have them for the GenCon display.

I have to admit your paintjob of the Naga Widowmaker is quickly growing on me.
Really fits in great with the team.
I had in my mind that the snake body would be green ... but the blue looks better each time I see the pic and get my preconceptions out of my head.

DL, I'm always impressed that you take references from nature itself. Not limiting yourself to them, but starting there. As a Natural Science major it's nice to see. Where you manage to find them all the time is a bit of a mystery. Guess: google images.

Great job Fen! I really love that hippo (so does my daughter). The cheatah is nice as well. The mantis definitely looks like a Dr. Who monster, but you did a good job on him.

Lovely work as always, Fen!
Mine are going to be finished up over this weekend and mailed out to Tom on Monday -- a little bit late by the original date, but I'd talked to Tom and had already worked this out a week and a half ago, so it's OK. Tom, you should actually be receiving them on 31st as discussed.
And the slight delay has an advantage because I'd been planning on doing my two Siringit with green pads and yellow loincloths to match actual Packer uniforms, as I'd mentioned a few pages back. But seeing as both DL and Fen went the other way with yellow pads and green cloths, I'll do mine to match (and those were parts that weren't completely done yet, anyway, as I've been doing the skin/fur/faces/hooves&horns on both first, so it's not a big deal to switch them up).

mine shipped out last evening. (DC# 0308 0070 0000 4394 5489 Tom). I definitely took a different route with my snake woman than DL. But sorry Tom, still no green body :) I was unable to take pictures of my model (because I suck at photography and my camera doesn't have the settings). Hopefully Tom can get a couple up for me in between his Gencon rush and having a life outside of work. I'll post my reference material after pictures. I don't want to spoil first impressions (surprises are fun :). I actually am looking forward to constructive criticism from this group. I'll step up and admit that of the people that volunteered, I'll probably be the worse painter (I'm not bad, just not Fen, DL good). So that being said, I'm fairly excited at having my first piece "on exhibit". If pictures do get up, I would appreciate if you guys throw pointers at me and tell me what could be better. All in all, I am pretty pleased with how my fig came out.
Couple of quick questions on the Mantid. I think this is the first time we are seeing the fig (did I miss a preview thread?). Does it have a "winged" body section that we just can't see on the back? Did the same sculptor that did the other Siringit do that one? I wondered, because to me, and only my opinion, the mantis isn't as good as the other Siringit. I don't think it is bad, I just think the other Siringit are great and by comparison, it isn't in that league.
Great paintjobs on all the Gencon figs so far guys. Nice work!
