Headslicer sneak peek

Headslicer was sent to the caster at the end of July.   My caster told me that after an unexpected delay he should be master moulded by the end of this month which means he should be in the store between late October and mid-November.

Hope you like.   Headslicer is a big guy ... he'll be sold with a Prone/Stunned token just like Bertha Giantfist is.

He's big enough to be a nice display piece as well.

When I have a metal copy in ... I'll get a playing field picture of him for you.

That is the best "RAT"-type model I have ever seen.  I don't really have a need for one, but dang he is cool looking.

Also what is the rune on his shoulder, it looks cool and similar to other stuff, but I can't place it.  Does it have any special meaning?
Torg

Actually that symbol is VERY close to the symbol used by a white supremecist group, the Afrikaners Resistance Movement.  No joke, I have a book of flags that shows that symbol on a flag for the ARM (in the section of flags of movements and resistance).  It was meant to be similar to the nazi swastika (but only used 3 arms instead of 4).
GalakStarscraper

No the symbol didn't mean anything.

The sculptor has no idea about the ARM.

And to be more specific ... the spokes coming from the center of the ARM symbol line up perfectly with the end of the bent sections whereas they aren't even close on this one.

I don't want Torg's post to suggest that Impact! has any relationship with such ideals as what ARM represents ... could not be further from the truth.

That is one honkin' rat ogre. Very cool and have added it to my Birthday/Christmas list.
duttydave

You say he's big.....

Is that a 40mm or 50mm base he is on?
Norse

it's the emblem for the Isle of Man, let's move on shall we...
GalakStarscraper

Just had someone personally email us at Impact! about the symbol asking us to change it.

Okay ... I'll try to do this very professionally.

That symbol structure has a name ... its called a Triskelion ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triskelion ).

Its a very old pattern that goes back quite a while.

Very little research on my part found these:

Above ...

1st:  Used by Tau Gamma Phi ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triskelion_Grand_Fraternity ).   Which is an organization with over 700,000 members which "believes that it must forge its members to embody qualities of leadership, commitment, persistence, trust, integrity, respect, and vision. This fraternity aims for academic success, personal, career and spiritual growth, active participation in the community through service and social activities."

2nd:  License plate from the Isle of Man

3rd:  Symbol from ancient Greek architecture.

4th:  Sicilian Flag

I really do appreciate the email we received and I'm open to anyone emailing me about something they are concerned about  ... but this symbol is much older than the small powers of hate that currently use it ... and if the forces of good don't allow it to be "theirs" ... its one more step to not allowing hate to control.

Its not a white power symbol ... its a Triskelion.  Do a google image search on triskelion or triskelion logo and you'll have pages dedicated to Tau Gamma Phi (an organization of pure peace), greek architechure and country flag symbols and some sci-fi references.   I went though pages of these images on my Google search and never saw it pop as a hate symbol.

If you don't give power to a symbol that isn't deserved ... then that symbol does not gain that power.

didn't mean for my little question to drag up so much stuff... Thanks for the information though.

That's a 40mm base.

And I'm fairly certain I have seen some other anthropomorphic rodents wearing that symbol too.

Do white supremacist groups have ANY symbols that they didn't steal from ancient mythologies?

I guess when your group depends on its followers being sheep who hate free thinking, it's hard to be creative, huh?

Dark Lord wrote:

I had never seen that ... so just did a Google Image search for "[insert anthromorphic rat name here] symbols" and got this:

So that answers the question of where that symbol came from ... okay that really is case closed for me.

Tom
Dark Lord

Grandma Wendy is generally about as creative as some of the aforementioned groups when it comes to symbols, story lines, and other small details of their world.

The hypocrisy of their litigiousness is really sad.
GalakStarscraper

Okay with all that straight ... hopefull from here out we can see posts that read:

"Wow!     Cool looking Wrat!!!!"

"Looking forward to him getting painted and coming out"

"A nice addition to your miniatures"

Dark Lord

Awesome looking wrat!!

He does actually look really cool!
Thadrin

Just as an aside:
My wife, being Swedish, bought me a rune on a thong (the sort that goes around your neck that is). She chose a rune that has meanings like "Home" and "heritage".
I can't wear it - or the deeply cool thor's hammer pendent I own - because the blasted racists have adopted those symbols...and people happily ignore the fact that the symbols either have more savoury meanings or just look cool...

Ain't it a (female canine)?
Thom

Absolutely cool! Not really fond of the blades, but the detail is fantastic! Well done!

I want that mini that is awesome. kudos on the sculpt cant wait to see the final result.

Like I said he's big.   I honestly don't know if I can price him at the $14.00 USD that we normally price our big guys at.   I don't think he has more pewter in him than Stumpy (our biggest Deadwood) which sells for $22.00 USD.

So best I can do now is say at the lowest ... he'll be $14.00 and I'm pretty sure the highest will be $22.00 USD.

Torg

Sorry for the first post of mine causing such a controversy, I was just pointing out that the symbol looked similar to a racist symbol and that it was something done without Impact or the sculpter being aware of it.  I have met all the Impact partners and would never imply that they are racist.  Obviously the symbol is a Triskelion.  My mistake, I apologise.
Feel free to delete my original post.  (and this one if you wish)

BTW, uber-cool rat.

14-22. all good. I will keep tabs on your site awaiting headslicers appearance

Lord why do you tempt me so.

Barely a couple of days after I sub-coached a couple of games for a <ahum> ratman team in a different fantasy football game, my first ever coaching ratmen, and had me thinking, it's a very cool team maybe I'll have to get some mini's and try them for a season. And then this mini arrives from my favourite metal-crack purveyor.

Great mini guys. Any plans in the future for a full ratman ElfBowl team?

Nice mini Tom

Well Norse is racist!  But that's only because the Scottish are better than everyone else!

We currently are negotiating with Patrick Keith to sculpt hopefully 8 of the 12 or all 12 figures.

Tom
Brage97

Sounds good; he's the man behind the first Impact barmaid too, as far as I can see. Nice if you can make him do all 12, gives more consistency

I see he's already got the job started over at Reapers :
Patrick

Massively cool rat! I knew what the symbol was right away having been a fan of things of "Ratdom" for many many years. I will need to get one of those.

Actually I am chomping at the bit to get started on all the Timberline. I have been looking over the art for a few days now and have been tinkering with armatures. Once Tom and I work out some details on the schedule I'll get right on them for sure. Very cool team indeed!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I love his work! That's ANOTHER team I'll have to buy and never get around to painting!
Jonluke

Nice looking rat, shall have to get me one of these.

Proportionally, I'm probably used to people making large fellas disproportionately small in the chest area/waist up (too small?) to save on metal, but as this oversized rat (Oriowissus from Princess Bride? sp?) as he looks left, appears very long in the body for a humanoid.  All the other photos look fantastic - but that last shot looks wrong to me proportionally. I find myself wanting some clearer photos as the shadows hide a lot of detail to be able to see this miniature more clearly.

More photos please!

Masters came in today for Headslicer ... ouph! ... if the game is going badly ... you could throw Headslicer at your opponent and probably knock him unconscious with little effort.   (220 grams / 7.8 oz ) ... need a comparison to understand that.  The Ice Troll weighs 50 grams ... a bag of 50 no hole base weights is 205 grams.

In order to get the best casting they had to cut him up into 13 pieces.  However that said ... the assembly looks pretty straight forward ... I'll give it a shot this week and if I get it done ... I'll send pics.

Just ran the math and I think I can price him the same as the Deadwoods.   I need to wait and see the final bill for the castings to be sure of that.   If not $22 USD each ... I hope to keep him no more than $25.00 USD.

Should ship out to Ramsay this week for painting.

I may buy an extra one to use as a paper weight.

There's a term in Warmachine circles: "Sockjacking". It's a method for dealing with obnoxious opponents and such like. You put a Warjack model (one of the big metal robot models) in a sock and use it as a club.

I hereby lay claim to the term "Sockratting".
Luddite

Wooo hoo !!!
220 grammes.. I still want 2. And the way the dollar is atm I can afford it without having to sell my children :)
GalakStarscraper

Okay ... got some more news on how much he is going to cost to cast.

So to start with ... I'm only ordering 30 of these to see how well they sell ... we'll purchase more for sure.

I will hedge though and say he could go up to $30.00 depending on how these last cost factors come in.

I still need to get more information to finalize the price.

Is there a waiting list for it? I found the website by chance and I've been watching this from when it was still around page 2. Needless to say, I WANT ONE! Please?

You should put him in both to avoid confusion.

Also, you should take a page from Heresy and make an option called "Everything in One Big List".

Problem is that that really confuses our vendors when they order from us using part numbers.

Website doesn't allow items to be shown in two different spots without them having different part numbers.

I noted on TFF they have posted a link to CMON where the guy who sculpted Headslicer has posted some new greens

Tom has stated that Norse is working with the sculptor so I am assuming Impact hope to produce this mini

What about his werewolf green (pictured below) will Impact be producing this also? It looks a bit Wratish to me but I still thinks its a nice sculpt
