Hex bases for Elfball

Hi!

After seeing some Elfball games I think it is necessary that the miniatures have hexagonal bases. The problem I see is that Impact! sells some of white metal, but if you have to organize several teams, they result quite expensive. I am wondering if there is any possibility of getting hexagonal plastic bases. I have some at home from an 2ed Elf Team that Dan change to me. Haven't you thought about that? I mean that these bases are important for the game.

I remember when the original suggestion for hexagonal bases came up and I don't think it was ever specified but I was certainly imagining hexagonal bases.

Yep, but the problem is that I'm not going to order overseas such a small amount of money. I'm looking forwards to find some here in Madrid.

In fact, the idea was 1) that your Elfball models come with hex bases 2) that Impact would sell plastic hex bases for a price similar to Jeff Valent studio...

Oh sorry, that wasn't a suggestion for you. It was an illustration to Impact that there must be some supplier out there selling hex bases cheaply.

They should find out where and get some.

Ever wonder why that other game doesn't use square bases?
Mephisto

Yep, that was also my intention. That Impact! gets some cheap one's for having them in stock.

In the meanwhile I'm trying to get some here in Spain for my first Elfball Teams...

it's a good suggestion - let's see what Tom can wrangle, it's likely our supplier of other bases can also do hexes..

Ok,

I've asked in a shop in Madrid, and they have some for 1,6€ ten. These are 25mm. They also have 30mm ones, but the borders are higher than the inner circle, like warmachine's one's. Same price.

I think it is an important thing for Elfball.

I like the looks of the round ones and plan on putting three dots on the front of the bases to indicate the forward facing hexes.

I can see how others would like the hex ones though.  My problem would be that the slot may not always line up to the facing of the mini on a hex base.     I wouldn't like that so I'll just paint 3 dots.

I'm sticking with round bases.  My elfball teams will pull double duty as part of a team for another game thst's based on fantasy football.

I intend to use the players number, painted or slatered onto the front of the base, to denote facing.

That's a good suggestion.

That's how we do it but I still think it would work/look better with hexagon bases.

But like I said, I'm weird, I think Bl00d B0wl should use square bases.

This is how I do mine...

Id be interested in buying some if some hex slotted bases here vailable to

I like that idea Rob.  I assume I can copy that?

I found some 25mm hex bases at em4 Miniatures that are 20 for £1, if that's of any use to any. I just got some for the Thunder Hammer dwarves that I'll be ordering in the next day or so

My optimal base markings include a "front" (for facing), and a "down" and "dazed" (since the way a figure lies flat often doesn't match it's facing). Green, yellow and red lines would be sufficient for minimalists, although the options are limitless.

Of course, I'm often too lazy to fully base my figures, and I started using the down/dazed counters anyway. But I think about these things a lot. (Like, do you zip then fasten, or fasten then zip?   )

I just based my Pharaoh team on the hex bases mentioned in my earlier post. I think they look really good (still not even undercoated, and my photo taking skills are v. poor, so you'll just have to take my word for it ).

They all had obvious directions to face except Sobek 2 and Thoth; I just picked one for the croc, and I twisted the Thoth beak slightly to give a more definite facing.

I'll be doing my dwarf team this way, and then any others I end up with!
Rab

Oh, should mention that the base weights with magnets fit in them just fine. I'll probably put felt on the bottom (as usual) - the circle/hex shape difference is small enough for me to live with (the felt circle doesn't stick out beyond the edges of the base)
