Ice Trollop Update - painted - 12/22 - (sorry for the delay)Well, with GenCon quickly approaching, I decided to finally get my team together for the tourney. Thanks to a conversation with the guys from Gen Con 3 years back where I said I'd do a Valkyrie (sp?) team next time I played there, I didn't have to stress over it.
Though, I will disappoint those that were there on the name, instead of Absolute Zero - my typical score - I decided on the Philly FrostHearts.
But, I digress
Anyway, I really wasn't happy with the chunky trolless or male Ulfwerners for the team, so I set about looking for suitable minis.
I was able to find something roughly to my liking for the Ulfwerner - which would just require some GS TLC - but, couldn't find anything for the Ice Troll.
So, with about 2 weeks, I've decided to give a shot at sculpting up a trolless for the team (that and convert all the Valkyries so no two look alike) and get everything painted in time for GenCon.
I have started the Ice Trolless with a rough skeletal framework, and have done the face for her.
I figure if I post here and set a goal in public, maybe I'll make it before GenCon (despite being oncall for the week )
Anyway, enough blathering, here are the first pics :
As a little side bonus, I'll try to get some shots of the Ulfwerner up - maybe some of the conversions too

I'll try more when I take the next series of WIP shots of the Trolless.

Boo, I want Absolute zero. It will be good to see you again, good luck getting the team ready.

Looking forward to seeing Team Xtreme (and the rest of the gang) as well - one of the main reasons I return every year
Yeah, I hate to dissapoint, and I tried Absolute Zero, Sub Zero and Below Zero, but I just couldn't come up with a logo that I liked Not that my score is likely to be over that regardless of what I name then, so, no fear when you play them
So, I headed in the direction of Cold Hearted Biaches - which lead to the Philly FrostHearts.
As for the Ice Trolless :
Adding leg warmers and chainmail briefs to the bulked up legs -and chopped the mini in half so I can work on both at the same time. Doing basic arm musculature and fingers now - this is a real pain

Ok, got a hold of a better digi-cam and also got some work done on the trolless.
I wound up breaking her in half to be able to work on both halves (and the head) at the same time - to help avoid smudging stuff I've gotten to a level that I like I also snapped off the right hand to rework the angle of it.
For the photo I mounted the head onto the shoulders to get an idea if the size fits.

She is coming along nicely.

Thanks
She is more then a little rough around the edges - the speed at which I am trying to get her done (and her being my first 'full' sculpt) has had me moving on to new areas while the old are still not fully cured.
Now that I am on to the more detailed stuff, the progress is going even slower (not to mention having to go to work tomorrow, so, no more being able to sculpt over the course of the day).
Once the next batch dries, I may assemble all the bits and take a side by side with a Valkyrie so you can see the size diference - even with the trolless slouching, she is definately a big girl, just hoping that she comes off more athletic then chubby

Time for sleep :PWorked on her a little more - put her together to see how it is shaping up :
(Note - the upper body is narrower then the lower, as I have yet to add the shirt)
and a size comparison to one of the Valkyries :

Will this be targeted?

not with plastic Dark Eldar hair it won't..

Justin Kase

Heh - the hair is temporary - something to help me figure out where to position the head and such not, until I can get to the hair itsel. I also plan to make the hair quite a bit bushier, and add the front braids like all the other Valkyrie models By the end, it will all be my own work .
I don't think the fangs could handle casting - they're a bit out there

I am interested in working with you in future as you obviously have talent, but I agree the face would not stand up to casting at present - perhaps you could do a Mk II version at some point in the future..?

I'd be honored, and I didn't even have to ply you with a few cans of Strong Bow this time
If it turns out nice enough that y'all are interested, I'd likely start from scratch and do a cleaner one - rather then the rush job. If I have enough time, I'll be trying to add a chain to her one hip with a string of penalty cards on it, possibly a polar bear skull on the other hip, and some of the rune stones to help solidify her connection to the Valkyrie models. But, I'll have to be quick if I want her primed and painted and ready for Gen Con next week

Nice miniature, it really is. Why won't the face hold up in casting btw???
I was excited that it might get mass produced there for a minute until I read that. You really should get a head that will worl in make this a targeted minature. It is an awesome female fantasy player and the model has a lot of personality in my opinion. You guys need to get this one produced... you really... really... do :

Thanks for the compliment :)
The face won't stand up to casting because the teeth stick out a little too much, or at least I think that would be an issue...
Anyway, sorry that I haven't posted anything, work is slaughtering me, and I had SCUBA classes this past weekend. So, this eve is the first time I've worked on it since then - so, I'm working a little fast to get it ready in time to be primered tomorrow and potentially painted for GenCon by Wednesday - soooooooo unlikely
Anyway, quick up-date before sleep - did some this morn before work, and then a few hours in the eve. Have to let it set and dry so I can work on it more tomorrow morn and night.
Sorry the photos are a bit shiney (the horribly white patch on the right hip is actually 5 tiny pieces of plasticard threaded on a GS chain - they'll be painting as her collection of penalty cards) :
I need to fix up the hair a bit, and the claws need detail and sharpening. The bracelet on the left hand needs more Rune Stones and a little cleanup.
Also, tossed in a shot of the Ulfwerner for fun, was painting her between doing the trollop.

That's is one great looking trollop! Wouldn't mind buying a copy of version 2 if you ever get impact to cast it
The werewolf is definitely nice as well. Good job!

We'll see how she turns out - and if Tom and Norse like it enough, I'll take my time and make another - something cleaner

Well, out of time, so I primed it and just laying down some base coats - see y'all at GenCon!

Been a while - and the paint job is anything but top notch, but, here she is :
Hope y'all enjoy :)

Heh, you wish MJ! She has a taste for short, hairy and loud. If anyone has a shot, it's Norse.
But I think I'm gonna make it this year. If Impact doesn't need help, I'm planning on doing the volunteer thing. And this year I'm bringing a portfolio to lug around and show off...oh yeah, I will be writing much of it off as business expenses!

You get Strongbow in the States? This one?
|
Dark Lord
|
If you look hard enough. I live near a liquor store chain called Friar Tuck's and I can get just about anything I want. However, mostly I stick to domestic microbrews for the sake of the deteriorating dollar. Occasionally I'll spring for a cider or mead...or even a trappist beer if I'm particularly posh. Strongbow can be found fairly easily though mostly canned. I don't think I have seen it on tap anywhere.
And as far as getting it at a pub...ppfffft! Not likely. There are a few here and there that serve lots of imports and microbrews but mostly they are overpriced. It also depends how far you live from civilization. The closest pub that even serves Guinness is about 5 miles away from my home. Most pubs in America you'd be lucky to get a Sam Adams.
Did you get yours at the RAM, Norse? That place was cool...tho hard to say if it was overpriced as everything is costly at Gencon.
|
Norse
|
nope, it wasn't on tap anywhere, but Val had a six-pack he shared with me..
my local liquor store says they will get me anything as long as I order enough of it...

GenCon this year will be a single stall booth and I WILL have all the blisters ready to go this year.
So that means we really only need 3 people at a time in the booth (or it will get overcrowded fast). One demo person, one person to help the customers, and one person to guard/run the cash box.
I would love to this year have Thursday to exactly explore the Con and meet some folks. If Gavin comes over that will work great as he can run the booth while I take some time to go meet and great. Plan on having some type of 2 way comm system so I can be paged if needed. I get ideas when I tour the Con and those are important.
After that ... I'm more than happy to sit my butt down for the other 3 days and help man the booth. So we need one demo guy/gal for all 4 days and we need someone to run the cash box on Thursday. Outside of that ... I think we'll be in good shape. Setup and Tear Down help will still get you free GenCon badges because that is a big deal.
Sorry to hijack the thread Justin. The Ice Trolless came out very nice!

I'm thinking I'm gonna volunteer for a badge and hotels anyway...it's my understanding that if you have a 4 year degree you can sometimes get the easier sit-on-yer-butt type jobs. Anyway, whatever happens, I'm always willing to help Impact if you need anything.

Shouldn't be a problem then.
Tom, as per usual, assuming my lottery numbers come up, I'd help.
Realistically, I'll wait till Impact are big enough to run a booth here in the UK.

I volunteer myself and Darkson to run the Gencon UK booth!

I fit that description as well
I would love to be a painter for the booth again.
I had a great time last year doing it.
looking forward to seeing you all again.
