Impact! February '08 release --- 35 new football miniaturesAnnounced today on the site:
| Quote: | February 5, 2008
A HUGE new release from Impact! (35 new miniatures!). First we have the Dutch Open Limited Edition miniatures in the Limited Impact area ... only 100 of these will be sold in our store before leaving forever. Next we have the complete Gnome and Thunder Hammer Dwarf teams are now in stock. From the sturdy Dwarves to the towering Gnomish Contraptions these are two great new teams. The Black Rock Dwarf team picks up 2 new Hobimps. We also have 2 new Samhaino figures in stock (Scarecrow Midfielders) sculpted by the very talented Steve Buddle. Finally from Impact!'s newest sculptor, PF, we have added a Minotaur with 5 heads and a fantasy football female that he did for us ... you can find both of these figures in the Targeted Impact area of the store. Happy shopping folks! |
Also based on a request by folks on TBB ... any miniature that was submitted to Impact! under our Targeted agreement for amateur sculptors is marked with a * after the sculptor's name (which means the sculpt was cast by us without paying the sculptor any money up front for the figure. If the sculptor's name does not have a * after it ... Impact! paid for the miniature up front.

The Thunder Hammer dwarfs look fantastic, as do the Scarecrows for the Saimhaino. I tip my hat to the sculptors.

Tom, the work you are doing is really great. The new targeted figures are great. You should order them more to do... they are talented sculptors.

In addition, we contracted him to complete a limited edition figure for us which he just completed ... should show up in the store in mid April.
Right now he is working on a special request by http://www.miniaturefootball.com . They asked if we could make some football sideline figures of a more "real" nature to go with their version of football gaming. Impact! partners agreed to give it a try and and PF is working on the first sculpt which will be a coach figure with 3 different head options based on past/present professional American football coaches.
So you will be seeing more from PF ... don't worry.

Re: Impact! February '08 release --- 35 new football miniatu | Mephisto wrote: | | Please STOP!!!! | Well ... you definitely will be getting a break. The bill for this casting run arond 7000 USD .. ouch!!!
I did just submit a box of greens to the caster ... but its mostly good news if you are hoping you'll get a chance to refill your wallet between releases.
I just sent 8 new figures to the caster.
HOWEVER ... 6 of those are limited edition figure that will not be released until after their tournaments later this year (and 2 of them will never be released on our site at all as the tournament organizer bought all the casting run).
So that means in the next casting run is just two new figures. Those figures are mini Deadwoods. They are around 30mm tall total so they fit on 25mm bases. So if you want some trees that fit better on the pitch ... these will work for you.
One of them was based on a piece of Art that Norse found at GenCon and the artist agreed to allow us to sculpt.
The artist was Andrew Hunter whose work is at www.badtangent.com
The friend Alex made to go with this guy is cute also.
But this is news for figures that won't be in the store until March. However ... the good news here is ... if you need a break .... we should only have these 2 figures and 1 limited edition figure hitting the store by the end of March.
After that ... April should have the first 4 Siringit figures (Hyena, Cheetah, Baboon, and Lion)

Good stuff.
What's a Samhaino? I always struggle with how to pitch/name minis in my world that will be part of a line - are they a bunch of different nightmare things or are they a halloween style line that would have something in common with jack o'lanterns?

And while we're on the subject, how do you pronounce it?

As for what is the team. Its basically a team from the stuff of nightmares but we are going to start with a Halloween type things.
Planned figures for the team at this time include:
Scarecrows
Zombies
Ghouls
Pumpkinheads
Headless Horsemen
Witches
Corpse Golem
The Horror (a tentacled swamp thing)
Horned Demon/Devils
Vampire Hunters and Safeties
Vampiric Thrall Midfielders
and the four Horsemen of the Apocolypse
Keep in mind the timeline for all of these ... is pretty long so don't expect any of them really quickly. So far for this year ... only the The Horror, the Witch thrower, the Copse Golem Hunter, and the Pumpkinhead Hunters, and the Scarecrow Midfielders are planned releases.

Yup ... that's the ballpark this plays in. Actually I got the name for the team from the word:
Samhainophobia ... which is the fear of Halloween
To hear it pronounced:

Huh. I always thought it was pronounce to rhyme with Ham Pain.
Sam like the name, and Hain like Pain.
It never occurred to me that being a Gaelic word it would still be pronounced with its accent.
At least it isn't spelled Samhain but pronounced "bubbledeebee" like some Gaelic words seem like they are.

That's why I asked. I've heard "rhymes with Sam Pain" and "Show-When", and hasn't sure which was intended. Turns out neither .
I've been using HorrorClix as proxies for now. That has resulted in a large contingent of Werewolves infiltrating the team, though. Looking forward to the Corpse Golem, for my budding TPU team.

Both will be considered correct answers if ever there is a verbal trivia test.

I swear they decided the english spellings over several pints.
"What is this?"
"urp...ishka bey-ha?"
"What?"
"Wizz-key...ish-ka-bey-ya!"
"Okay how do you spell it?"
"Uh...let me think...U...i...s...g...e"
"Wait what?"

I had no idea that any of those old game tables were still in use. The damn things I was familiar with in the 60s & 70s got so hot when they were on that you could smell the paint scorching. You couldn't touch the field or you would burn yourself. There were housefires started by the damn things!
Even more amazing, they are not playing on the old tables, it appears that there is a source of new vibrating miniature football tables. . .
Will wonders never cease?
Not only are they making NEW tables, they make special edtions featuring specific stadiums and teams commemorating Super Bowls or Playoff games. There seems to be a booming market for new teams, updated annualy (From a variety of manufacturers it appears) and includes, CFL teams, College Teams, NFLE and so on. . .
Wow! Miggle/Tudor Toys is the official Tudor manufacturer, but teams, bases and "Custom" accessories are available from a wide variety of sources. . .
Tables from $34 - $500 can be found Here. . .

LOL. That is what my dad thought I was playing when I told him about FF. It is a constant running joke with him. So much so that he will shake the table when he walks by when I am playing . . . annoying yes, but I understand the humour enough to still laugh.
|
Dark Lord
|
So can they pass the ball or what?
|
Eric.R.
|
Oddly enough, yes . . . aswell as kick and punt. How you pull this off is beyond me.
|
Xtreme
|
First you turn the board off and declare a pass. There was a special QB model with a spring arm that you pulled back and aimed the ball down the field. Not sure what the official rules on completing the pass were, but we always said if you hit a player on your team before the ball hit the board it was caught. Kicking was very similar with a special kicking model.
