Light The NightThis time of year I have to ask everyone to donate to a charity that I have joined for personal reasons.The charity is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the event I participate in is the Light The Night Walk. In 2004 my aunt Carol died of leukemia. When things like this happen, people often say things like, "She was the last person who deserved this" but in this case it's true. My aunt was very much the glue that held that side of my family together, and she wasn't even a blood relative. She was perpetually optimistic, but not in an annoying way. She was a devout Christian and her energy for helping people seemed infinite, but yet she was never judgmental or condescending. Sometimes when people die of a terminal illness, loved ones forget they had faults and deify them...and with Carol it's easy to do. Of all the people on that side of my large family, my aunt Carol and my Uncle Bill were undoubtedly my favorites. They were just good people. My family has disseminated since her death, and we'll never be the same again. The pain I feel in losing my aunt, is nothing compared to the pain my cousins have felt in losing a mother. So in honor of her memory, each year I participate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Light the Night" charity fund raiser and walk. I ask anyone reading this to go to my donations page and donate anything you can. They'll take as little as $5 I think, but please give to this great charity.
