Middle Kingdoms ... a big thank you to Tritex and Lorenzo

As we announced previously we were going to take a break from investing in new miniatures until my debt to Impact! could be paid off.

However we've come into the opporunity to get possession of a great range of sculpts for the Middle Kingdoms team that PF is willing to work with us on both on how he gets paid and many of the ideas that Ramsay wanted to see in the team.

No pictures yet ... (sorry) ... but I didn't want to delay the huge thank you that I have to offer.

Thank you #1:  PF has agreed to delay payment for the team and will receive 100% of the sales of the figures until the agreed upon amount is reached.

Thank you #2:  Tritex Games agreed to place an order large enough to pay for 1/2 of the casting costs of the team.  Thank you Jason!!!
http://www.tritex-games.co.uk/

Thank you #3:  Last BUT NOT LEAST.  The Fantasy Football Store agreed to place an order large enough to pay for 1/2 of the casting costs of the team.  Thank you Lorenzo!

=================

So don't hold up your orders ... it will be a while before the figures appear in the store! ... but its great that we'll be able to come out with another team while Impact! goes through a lower production period to get my loan to the company paid off.

Many thanks to all 3 of these folks for being so great working with us to make this happen!

Okay. Well I forgive you. I just want a Middle Kingdoms team!

The original plan was to hire Dark Lord to sketch the team and once upon a time we were going to use Alex Garrett to sculpt it.

So we did feel bad that those plans got dumped on their head.  Sorry guys!  Money issues pushed this plan in a different direction.

I'm not bitter.

No really.
GreedySmurf

Hi Galak,

Good news for Impact.

One Question - the Middle Kingdoms was originally IIRC going to be a "spartan" themed team is that right?

With this new arrangement, is that still the case, or with the pre-existing sculpts is the team concept going in a new direction now?
Norse

the team direction has not changed..

Way to go Ramsey, Tom, PF, Jason and Lorenzo!

Great news!

And it is great that there are such nice partners, too!

Spartan?  Seriously?  Omg omg omgomgomgomg, oooo boy.

I take it you forgot about the Ancient Greek-themed team.

wait until you see them..

yawn at ancient greeks, I just like spartan helmets.
Stout Youngblood

I thought the helmets are Ancient Greek, not specific to Sparta.
Norse

technically, each polis in Greece had subtle differences in the style of their helmets, so we have a range of hoplite gear that will have you all reaching for the 300 DVD again..
fen

Exactly!
Dark Lord

I have a secret.

I have seen them and while naturally I prefer my design for them (red briefs and capes, very little armor) they look really great! I can't wait to paint them!

Speaking of painting...who is painting them?

I'll make a deal DL, I'll pick the 16 I like the best, you can paint the remainder, OK..

Now that....is a massive tease.    Completely unfair!!

How long do we have to wait before we get to see some pictures of these bad boys? And more importantly how long before they're in the store?

I can hear my (still unpainted) Hausien Cyclops calling from my painting desk, wanting to know when it will be joined by it's team mates. You wouldn't want to disppoint the poor cyclops now would you?

Before the end of the year.

You Bastards!  Making spend more money!!!

Well, it's good that they won't be historically accurate hopilites, with all their junk flapping in the breeze.

But Impact already has a dwarf team or two

I ws open minded about teh 300 style, but I was really looking fo rsomething like this without the weapons:

We'll see who gets more of what they want and who likes what they get even if it's not what they were thinking.

Edit: Can't seem to get the IMG tag to work so I'll leave the link.
majortusk

hmm Norse is painting em?

.....

guess I will have to wait til i get a copy of the minis to see if they look good painted :P

j/k
Norse

I think everyone will be happy with the end result...

and with so many different minis, you could easily field a full team even if some of the minis you do not like..
duttydave

Enough trash talk already.

Let's have a sneak peak then!!!!

I do like that fig's look for some reason. I've no use for it myself, but I do agree that a team of figs looking like that would be sharp.
Lychanthrope

I've loved most everything that Impact has done.  So I'm looking forward to these figs alot.

Norse may like a set of these:
GalakStarscraper

While we plan to have female figures for the Timberline Elf team ... there are no female figures on the Middle Kingdoms team at this time.  Other than the Ogress which Ramsay created a head for her that matched in with the Middle Kingdoms team.

OK, Tom will probably kill me for this, or delete the post, but here is a small preview...

Hey its your company too ... if you want to give a sneak peek ... all good.

There are 18 normal figures for the range and one Cyclops and a head sprue.

Galak
duttydave

Wonderful.

I will order the full team as soon as they hit the store.
skatingtortoise

oh...excuse me, ive just come.

fast show references aside, my savings might take a hit soon.
Norse

glad you like 'em.. there's 12 others too.. including a team themed big guy..
skatingtortoise

just thinking about it, the new fantasy femme with a bit of helmet conversion would drop into this team perfectly ;)

caution.
GreedySmurf

Love Em.

Looks like that makes it two teams I'll be ordering in the near future. The Siringit and these guys.

You've just made my choice of what race to play in the upcoming Season 4 of my league that much harder.

ironically, the sculptor did send that conversion to us with the rest of the team, but as a qualified Classical historian, I know that Spartan women were used exclusively as incubators from age 13 to death, so the prospect of having a hoplite female offends my sensibilities..

i am awed by the power of your knowledge :D

what if they were athenian or thespian?
Norse

maybe you mean Theban?

I'm pretty sure Thesbians are just dykes with a speech impediment..

Norse wrote:

Im afraid to say they aren't what I expected, Im a little disappointed to be honest. Too much padding for my taste, I had the "300" image in my head so these look a bit different and the poses are a little to be desired, I also think that the Strikers head is tiny! Or his arms are humongous!   I did like his Dwarves that he did, so maybe its the image quality thats skewing my perspective on it

Its not a dig, Im just trying to give constructive criticism! PF is a good sculptor, I like his comic style

I think they look more suited stylewise to another FF game compared to ElfBall, I think if you think about Divine Wind, I loved the bamboo pads they had, and the Siringit team is just inspired! These guys look a little too generic in my  eyes, and look like they took a trip to the Dwarf shop to get kitted out! :P

Greens arent a great indicator of a minis potential tbh as you cant see much of the intricate detail, Im sure they will look much better once Norse gets his hands on them, and Ill more than likely end up buying them...
Im sure better pics would improve my judgement on them, a classic example of this is the Divine Wind, the old pics were simply awful, but I think the ones I took give a slightly better skew on them.
My favourite of the 4 is the Thrower Hero, but please dont be changing anything om my account! General concensus is that they are liked by the most of people here!

Now what about those Sarcos?

I hope this feedback is useful, hope I havent offended anyone
bouncergriim

I like them.  But the scults do reminde me of those late eighties pink wrestler things.  Which is not a bad thing, just an interesting similarity.

Patchwork

That's really generious of PF, Jason and Lorenzo but now when they do come out where do I buy them, here, Tritex or Fantasy Football Store

Thanks for the sneak preview Norse. I like the look (but then the thunderhammer dwarves are my favorite of your current range), will be interesting to see what the rest of the miniatures look like.

IIRC the 300 spartans were backed up by 900 personal slaves, and 4000 other greeks, of which only 1000 thespians stayed behind for the final scrimmage.
Torg

Have to agree with Brownrob, a bit too generic, expected something a bit more thematic (more than just the helmets).  Maybe the other sculpts will be a bit better.
Stout Youngblood

No I think he meant actully Lesbian. And so you are correct about the speech impediment!

I remember those damned pink ugly M.U.S.C.L.E. thingies. I recall they were sold at our local candy store, but I can't recall how they were packaged. . . Was it with candy or in their own vending machines? Damn that was a long time ago, there were other venders who had competeing products, monsters and aliens in the same scale. . .
Dark Lord

Muscles came in a blister pack of 4. Or in a translucent garbage can flip top 10 pack that may or may not have had some nasty bubble gum in it.
Thom

I was in college when they came out I think, but my best friends two sons were gonzo over them and would drag us to the candy store to get them. Of course when the kids were in beds and we adults had imbibed enough then they became our toys for the evening. Many of those nights are now a smoke filled haze. . .

I do remember the trash cans full of them, I also remember special issues in various colors, I think some of them might have even been scented, Grape, Orange, Cherry. . .

And for some reason I do associate gum with them, but that may be a smokey haze created memory. . .
Dark Lord

The handy guy in the upper right was my absolute favorite.
Justice

Ha ha! M.U.S.C.L.E.'s!
based on the Kinnikuman anime I believe. Used to love them as a kid.
Norse

ahem...  back on topic...

I appreciate that the sculpts will not appeal to everyone - trying to please all the people all the time is a futile task.

As for image, had we gone down a more strictly "300" path without football pads and such like, I suspect a bunch of guys would have asked why we were releasing historical models without swords.. and didn't we know this was meant to be for fantasy football..

I like the models, they rock, and I can't wait to paint them..  and when I react that way, usually the minis are pretty good..
Dark Lord

I agree with Norse and I have more reason to complain about them than anyone.

If they can please me, they can please nearly anyone.
Igor Tahavanale

They look GREAT to me. It's important that they look FF and the padding makes them that. The safety on the left is exactly what I'd want from this line of figs.
Norse

wait until you see the other safeties..

also, if I am not mistaken, many of the arms will be separate after casting, allowing for some easy conversions of players to other desired positions

R
fen

I'm going to hold judgement until I have some in my hands.  But I am disappointed that they don't have skirts.

This is sort of what I was hoping for.  They're close and if they had skirts they'd be spot on.

Don't take this as saying they're no good.  I am very pleased with the helmet and upper bodies.  They're just a little more 2nd ed human on the legs than I was expecting.

That handy guy was a stroke of genius by whoever was designing those
Norse

the big guy is wearing a leather skirt of sorts..  the other players are wearing leggings or bare-legged.. interesting observation though fen..

and a good reason for you to buy some procreate and sculpt some Spartan kilts..
bound for glory

i think they look great!

Norse wrote:

I don't mean this as a slam .. but I had the same thought.  A Spartan Kilt or even a cape like Dark Lord was talking about are both VERY simple sculpts to do with some green stuff or procreate.  I've made capes and robes before and always had great success and I'm a very poor sculptor.

So its more a matter for these guys that if you want that effect its very easy to add it on.  But if we put it on ... its impossible for someone else to remove.

I don't always like having to do things because its just good business ... but this is one of them.
