New Impact Release Thread

I'll be using this thread to showcase the new Impact! releases as and when I finish them.

Right now it's just the one mini - but what a doozy it is.

It's the first of the pair of Victoria's Sobeks - and tbh, you really should get yourself some of these. They're fantastic.

More stuff will arrive in this thread as and when I finish it.
GalakStarscraper

Looks great. Really great.

Galak
fen

The second Sobek is nearly finished - it'll either be up tomorrow or possibly this evening. It depends on how much I get done in the hour or two before bed.

Also it's the fault of this little chap.

He's 18mm (I think) of cute skeletal goodness, you know you want some!

The second Sobek will be the next mini I put up.
GalakStarscraper

The figures Fen are showing "should" be in the store by July 21st.
Stout Youngblood

How many deadlings figs will there be when you are done? Will they all be available July 21st?

Sorry for the thread hijacking.
GalakStarscraper

Stout Youngblood wrote:

All should be in by July 21st.

3 skeletons
1 wight
1 monster
1 vampire star player

By Aug 16 we should add
2 wereling
1 deadwood treeman
Redfang

I want that skeleton...
Norse

come to the Bubble and get some friends for him at the same time..
fen

Second Sobek.

Scale wise his head comes up to the bottom of the chest on the other Sobek.
I decided not to paint the Crocodile markings on him so you can see how fantastic the spine scales are.

I managed to take a shot where the head was in focus - the mini has a lot of depth as it leans forward. Additionally here's a shot of both Sobeks side by side.

Here's the second Deadling - he's scampering across the pitch.
Redfang

I want that friend for the deadling!
Chairface

Man, I love the dynamic pose on the new deadlings! Are those from Alex?
Dark Lord

The Deadlings are off the heezy!!

I know what team I will be running in my league! I could lose every game with them and I won't care. The minis are just too cool!
Xtreme

I don't have much money for GenCon this year, but it looks like most of it will be going to Impact. Love the new Deadlings.

They're going to go great with Zlurpus...

No. Tom De Wolf sculpted these 2. They are his own design.

The running Deadling skeleton reminds me very much of Discworld death. Maybe it's because he's kind of cartoony, or whether it's because expressive skull I don't know, but I can see it. And I like it.

All four figures featured so far look fantastic
Darkson

The running Death is great - in the running (pun intended!) for one of the best Impact figs.
The sobeks are great as well.

The catching skellie doesn't push the right buttons for me though - I can't put my finger on why, but whereas the others make me go or , the skellie leaves me .

That said, a couple wil be making their way to my Deadling team, if only because the more the merrier.
LordWriggly

Igor Tahavanale wrote:

You're quite right. He's loosely based on the Discworld death. At first I even wanted to give him a scythe but for putting him on a pitch that wouldn't be right. So now he's running, holding his robe with his hand. The picture doesn't show it but his feet should not be touching the ground, only the rim of his robe.

Great the Bonelings are well liked.
Lychanthrope

There's going to be a lot of people going for the stunty cup at the tourneys - deadlings and deadwood.

Fantastic work Tom!
sebco

Well, now that Norse had teased us about the Deadwoods Treeman, we're waiting for it !
fen

No Deadwood Treeman here - it's not even been to the casters yet.

I screwed up part of my registery this week while trying to eliminate a HP program that has been irritating me. So my art packages were all unable to work and I couldn't resize any pictures.

As such here's a three for one post.

Chaos Apoth - This mini is a lot of fun to paint.

Ltd ed Frogman

First of the Gnomes

And here's an unpainted running deadling - he's running so close to the ground it's very difficult to spot it once you add sand to the base.

Now, if you'll excuse me I need to go fix my computer and watch Doctor Who.
Rabid_Bogscum

youve been a busy boy Fen.. they look great
Norse

frogman is very cool fen, but doesn't the gnome deserve pupils or is he "running blind"?
fen

Norse wrote:

He's got pupils - he's looking towards the camera. I think the angle and light washed them out more than they actually are. They are very visable on the actual mini and if you look closely, you can still see them.
Norse

how does he know to look towards the camera?? freaky!
fen

Norse wrote:

I slap him with a cucumber until he pays attention. These Gnomes are worse than Dwarfs when it comes to knowing how to pose in front of a camera!

Here's Redfink's Goblin ref. (focus is a little off in the 'forward facing picture' I'll fix that next time I photo other minis.)

And here's the second Gnome:

Ribbit!

(I've since repainted the base ring black on this guy.)
Norse

I'm currently painting up that toad as well fen, but I have gone with a little more neon in my colour scheme..
Fubar

I like the paintjob on the toad

Fubar wrote:

Two things factored that.
1) Needed to sell out the Limited Edition mini first and allow for a period of rest in the market for the item.
2) More importantly ... needed cash to cast it.

Galak
Norse

3) needed to locate the green in the Post Office lost and found dept..
GalakStarscraper

Hey ... just was checking my notes ... realized I sent you 12 figures in the 1st batch and only 10 have been show ... 2 figures are missing from this thread.

Where are the Tentacled Warrior and the Liche Lord figures, my good sir Fen?

Are they still in touch up?

Galak
fen

I'm finalising the bases as I type this, I had a bit of a devil getting them to look satisfactory.
GalakStarscraper

fen wrote:

I always love when a really good painter says this. Urb has said this before.

And then I just sit and drool over their "satisfactory" results ...

Galak
fen

Well I'm not as good as Urb...

I think of all the minis I've painted out of these, the Deadlings, the toad and the Warrior's tentacle are the better work. The others I wish I'd been able to spend more time on.

(The tentacle is a tribute to a certain team that I think this guy would fit very well with)
GalakStarscraper

Thanks fen!!!

Galak
fen

Dr Mini-stein has been at it again...

Excellent mini this one, great character in 18mm.

Here's the picture more to scale (well x2ish).

And to join him, a tiny Wight.

This guy comes in four parts, one of which is the face bar, so you can set that at any angle you desire, or even leave it off. The other parts are the arms, so you have some choice about what angle to put them at.

A couple of better shots of him tomorrow, as the front angle doesn't show everything that well.
GalakStarscraper

Very cool ... thanks fen. Looking forward to seeing a shot of the Wight more from an up angle to better see his face and chest if you can do that.

Galak
LordWriggly

Great work Fen.

Happy to hear you like the little dude. I personnaly think Mr. Frankling Freak'nstein is one of my better ones.
Hope he was as much fun to paint as he was for me to make.

Did the Fleshling come in one piece?
fen

No, the left arm is seperate, but it has a pin already molded into it, so that's no big problem.

It'll be tricky to get a shot of the chest Tom, I had to dismantle the Wightling after I primed him to paint it, because it's almost totally hidden by the head and arms. But I'll see what I can do.
GalakStarscraper

fen wrote:

Don't worry about it.

Galak
GalakStarscraper

Hey Fen ... can I request the Kicker next so that I can post them a combined ad on TMP. Thanks!!!

Galak
fen

The Kicker is indeed next on the list, I've blocked out the base colours so he should be finished this evening.
fen

Again I can't express enough how much fun these sculpts are to paint. While they're tiny it's a joy to see the amount of character put into them, especially the skeletons.

Better angles of the wight will also be coming soon. The ones I just took were out of focus.
Norse

can you bend him back so he looks like he is kicking a ball fen? right now he is far too hunched over.. maybe a problem with the moulding process.. he is meant to be upright with his kicking foot infront of him at waist height..
fen

I can't bring myself to risk it as he's pinned on the front foot from the molding process (black line under the foot) and if I cut that pin before shipping him to Tom it's quite likely that his other foot will break off during transit because he's small.

And once a mini this size breaks it becomes very tough to pin the leg back together, if I wasn't shipping him I'd have no problem doing it. It's not a difficult task.
LordWriggly

The position of the feet and legs is OK.
Height of the kicking foot also.

The spine with the back leg should be at about a 60° angle to the ground, the skull should be facing forward and the shoulders in a horizontal position.

Being a rather delicate figure I think the spine got twisted during shipping.

I (Norse did/does? also) have some photos of the green that show his correct pose. Only problem, I don't know how to post them (yet).

No matter what his pose is. He looks great. Another fantastic paintjob.
You do the little ones honour.
GalakStarscraper

Here was LordWriggly's original view of the sculpt's posture.

I looked at the mini and you can glue him together in this pose as well as the one Fen did without bending anything. However, I highly recommend having superglue accelerator when working on this figure.

Galak
fen

Ah, right. The spine. Yeah, I didn't realise it was supposed to be so upright because I hadn't seen the green.

The mini didn't get damaged in shipping, the casters cut him in two at the spine. Which does give a massive range of potential positions you can switch him into, I went for the "head down, eye on the ball" pose that some people use when kicking. Also imo it makes him look more impish, like he's scampering across the pitch.

But there's nothing I can do now short of stripping the paint. I'm getting a couple of these for myself, so I'll pose one of them upright when I'm painting them for myself (which will be after I'm all finished with painting the new releases).
GalakStarscraper

I'm fine with how you did him Fen for the display cabinet.

Galak
Norse

if I ever get round to painting again, I'll pose him as if he has just finished a punt, with his foot waaaay up there...
fen

Dammit, I'd sworn I wasn't going to buy more miniatures for teams I'd never use, then you had to go and cast all these other Deadlings...

I don't see any way in which I won't own them, not necessarily soon, but at least by the end of the year.

Thank you. no rush. I know you are busy with GenCon prep.

The above post was merely that from a very excited customer. Not intended to be a nagger. Although I'm sure I could get good lessons from the wife.

As usual, Fen's paintwork can't be questioned -- and the logo is an especially nice touch! However, with that said...

Does the ball look deformed to anyone else? Round on the bottom but flat on top?
GalakStarscraper

lahatiel wrote:

Two point on this using both games.

1) Its an elfball if you read the description of that its a ball in a ball so it would be a little flat on top and round on the bottom from this effect.

2) Ever read the fluffy description of how football are made for B.B. I have a difficult time believing they are perfect NFL style (contrary to the pictures the artists draw from what they think it should look like).

=====

So the answer is yes ... it is a bit deformed .... but its pretty much on purpose since for me personally I have never like the perfectly symmetrical ball that comes with the other game ... it doesn't match the game history at all.

The other part of the answer is the casting is hollow to add polarized metal to the ball which makes it REALLY difficult to cast in pewter a perfect symmetrical object in a 2 ton press when the object is hollow even if I desired to. However since it didn't bother me if it wasn't perfect in shape ... we have this.

If my vision of what a real football from Elfball or B.B. would look like doesn't match up for you .... I'll understand if you don't purchase it ... but to me this was a bit more what I expect the ball to really look like.

Galak
GalakStarscraper

And I should note that Alex sculpted 3 footballs and the other 2 were squashed SO flat by the press since they were hollow that I reject them for production casting. I thought this looked a lot like an Elfball or B.B football so I cast this one.

I wouldn't cast something that I think didn't survive the press to my standards.

Hope these explanations make sense.

Galak
lahatiel

GalakStarscraper wrote:

Perfectly so! I didn't think it was just a trick of a camera angle since multiple angles were shown, so I was curious if it was purposeful or just a casting effect. Knowing the reasons why it's actually a bit of both, it's all perfectly logical now.
GalakStarscraper

Fen also painted up a non-spiked version of the ball (as we will be selling both versions).

The unpainted version of this ball is included in the Elfball boxed set.

Thanks fen for getting these painted up! Both versions will be in the store today.

I don't feel like I've done the awesomeness of this sculpt justice, but...

And without the bonepile

(The vulture seems to lean a lot more in these photos than he does to the naked eye...)

This guy does rate as slightly challenging to assemble, you certainly want to pin the arms in place but it's the trunk that's the biggest challenge. I recommend that you definately include the bone pile (and glue it in) if you're not that hot at assembling minis - it provides a stable core for the trunk. But why would you leave the bone pile out? It's just freaking amazing.

I'll shot some more angles and a close up of the bone pile core tomorrow.

I've got about half the figures I need for an Undead/Necro team that was going to be all conversions from Reaper and Heresy miniatures, though none of them have yet been touched, as that team is a ways down my project list...

Screw 'em.

I think all those figures I already have will end up being sold and/or traded away, because there's just no way I can not purchase an entire team of Deadlings, eventually, and I'll have no problems using them as a regular Undead/Necro team when I do.
