Norse finally presents...the Phallus Cowboys...
I always wanted to do a more menacing Chaos Dwarf team and eventually got round to converting these Sleezish worshiping deviant thugs.. the team name was borrowed from a post I saw a few years ago- I think it was Dark Lord who came up with the name, but my thanks to whoever it was.. the team are heavily converted from Grandma Wendy dwarf, orc, ork and chaos plastics and quite a bit of greenstuff... in truth the conversion work took longer than the painting did, but that's because I painted them in about a week.. they won the RDV tournament (runner-up painting award) and won best painted at Tulips this year (runner up in final standings ) so they seem to do me pretty well... hope you like them...
PS there are no Bull Centaurs because I don't use the position on the team and probably never will..
R
PPS the apothecary will eventually have a thread running from his left hand to the needle.. eventually...

I like the overall look of the CDs in particular, though the proportions of the arms and the legs look odd.
I hope the forthcoming 'Evil Dwarfs' take some inspiration from these bad boys.

They look really good, I like the size of the arms on your dwarfs, makes them look very nasty, but in a good way

Very nice work. I miss the usual freehand you usually decorate your mini's with but still great work none the less.
I guess you and Tom have a need to make the game as difficult as possible for the sake of challenge. No FF Centaur's is an interesting way of playing cd's.

the arms are a little big for me, but still it looks nice ;)
i like the variation you and urb have in painting, you are more cartoony i think (shading on the horns) whereas urb is more...subtle, and i like both styles!
the purple is really smooth and looks really well!

Really like what you did with the coversions and of course the paint job is top notch.

That is how Chaos Dwarf conversions are meant to be! I am inspired! Nicely done my friend.

Thx guys, I didn't have the time to paint these up to my usual standard.. with hindsight I could have gone for a more involved colourscheme - stripes or quarters or similar, but I had spent so much time on the conversion work - and Grandma Wendy lost my first order - I just had to get them done.. I also try to do my Fantasy Football teams quite cartoony - it is a cartoony concept I think - whereas my historical stuff tends to be much more subtle and "realistic"...
Urb, instead of a highly unreliable and expensive player I can get 3 HobGobs and an extra fan - that is a HUGE advantage in a tournament setting - I have taken the same roster to 3 tourneys thsi year - won 2 of them and been runner-up in the 3rd - I'm not about to change my roster in a hurry..

Expensive I understand, but unreliable?

I have noticed over the years that coaches "presume" the FF Centaur will make 9 squares of movement automatically, so they are less careful with their positioning of him, thinking he has the same MA as a Wood Elf catcher.. but I have seen so many 1s rolled on GFIs it's incredible...
also, without Block he is as effective as a BOB.. (I often take half-die blocks on skill-less creatures if Ihave block myself) and without Break Tackle he can easily be pinned by a cheaper model like a zombie..
and unless you are in a league you will not get Block AND Break Tackle in a hurry...
don't get me wrong, I think they have their uses in a league, but in a tourney, never..
plus I foul every turn, so having cheap expendable liners is a must for me..

Ah I never presume a FF Centaur will move more than 7 Squares in a given turn.
I can see where you're coming from, I'm just not sure if I'd want to sacrifice the potential ability to score a fast TD when under pressure.
Then again, I grew up playing Rat in 2nd Ed and early 3rd Ed.
Edit: Grumble, can we change the filter to say Ratmen please? ;)
|
Norse
|
well, in 3rd ed I played a CD team - that was back in the days when the only BGs and BCs around were star players, so I got very used to playing with 6 CDs and 8 HobGobs - that team won the league that year with 7 wins and a draw, so I guess I'm just used to using the 3rd ed roster as much as anything else...
plus I have a secret tactic which almost always wins me games...

For a bunch of phallus lovin' cowboys, isn't the mino a bit light in the shorts?

you should try the rear view...
with a wedgie like that no wonder he's a wild animal..

I love the look of the team. Im tempted to make a WFB army using similar conversions. I wouldnt mind making a FF team in a simalar way though.
Sleezish suits them really well I think.
Jobs a good 'un!

great paint job too.

thx...
unfortunately, Grandma Wendy have changed their Dwarf plastics from multi-part "models" to a new breed of click-together type "toy" where the torso is already attached to the legs.. I had to cut these in half when I ran out of old Dwarf plastic legs, hence the time lost on conversion..
if anyone has more of the old style Dwarf legs I will pay well for these..

Im looking too, I really want to do the same kinda conversions (I want a chaos dwarf team, but one that looks awesome, and yours does). So if you dont mind, I would like to do the same, very much so.
sorry, the only legs I have are either part of my dwarf army or for this. I would trade a new unit for an old one though.

I'll maybe buy some extra parts on Ebay and then if you need more bits yourself, just let me know and we can do a deal...
on Ebay there is a really good seller called Battlewagon Bitz where you can pick up the Ork and Chaos bits you need without having to buy the bits you do not... great guys, so check them out...
Norse (still looking for Dwarf legs despite the fact he has a pair of his own )

Im UK based, is he?
Can you link me up to his selling list?
Thanks. I think I have the orc/ork bitz I need.

I am so "borrowing" the concept for these. Thanks Norse!

Norse

it's called "stealing" Chairface.. but if it means you get some spare plastics you could send me then I am fine with that..
rob, he's US based I think (http://stores.ebay.com/Battlewagon-Bits) but shipping is not expensive if you buy everything you need in one go..

I got everything I need for mine! I will be going a slightly different way. I am using goblin legs and I will be positioning the heads further down for more of a hunchbacked look. Oh, and I'm going to be using Va'dur from Heresy as one of my six. Again Norse, thanks for the "inspiration."

Great looking team ... but that minotaur gives me the heebie jeebies *shudders*

Norse

|
Chairface

No I don't, sorry. I'm hitting my first tournie this weekend and if I pick some up I'll let you know.

Norse

it'll be a pretty weird tourney if they are handing out Dwarf legs, but thanks for the thought..

I put out feelers that I was looking for some for trade

They look good.. really good. That's what I think, even though I am firmly established in the camp of those who loooooove the big hats.
A really nice Mino too - warmed my heart to see that specific mini; makes me wish I hadn't cut the arm off the one that I have... and just when I need to paint a Mino myself. Consarn it!
