Not-dibblerOkay, well, I've not been sculpting an awful lot lately, mostly due to time constraints (bloody degree, mumble mumble). I started this chap over the Christmas vacation and I've recently come back to him, now I've got a bit of time. He's meant to be a warm canine seller, though anything could really be put into his hand(s). The pose is meant to be him identifying a potential customer, or greedily counting heads for an order (thus the grin).
He had a tray at one point, but I didn't like it, or how it sat on his body so I ditched it. I would like to go back and add a new one, but I'm not sure how I want to arrange it (since another strap around the neck would negate most of the apron detail around/under the collar of his coat. I'm going to lengthen his apron and add some pockets to the jacket.
I tried to keep a ratty look to him, which brought about the nose and buck teeth. I kept him thin (he's never tempted to test his own merchandise, since he knows what's in it!) and tried to make him a lottle bit hunched and his jacket a little too small.
He's not really anywhere near finished, detail wise, but most of the general shapes are in place. The two shoes, his right trouser leg, coat bottom, apron tie, apron neck loop, collar and most facial details are basically finished.
So, any comments or owt like that would be greatly appreciated (sorry for the pics, just quick snaps really)
Cheers,
Alex

I like it. I'd buy one.
Going to try your hand at a "rat on a stick" vendor next?

I like the mini, certainly would like to have one.

I thought about the same. Instead of putting a tablett on him, make a barbeceu grill next to him. Put those rat's on sticks next to the hamburgers, as if a (wanted to put those humanoid rat's (danger of intellectual property violation?) in here, but they wouldn't eat their cousins) reptiliated team faces a human one.

Everyone knows if he did it should be a Dwarf vendor.
Lovely clean and characterful sculpt

One of us must be a mind reader, I've just been sketching a dwarf to sell rats on sticks!
Thanks for your contributions.
I think I'll finish off the detailing, then make him a tray to see how it looks. I'll probably make a start on that dwarf, too.

very nice clean sculpting, I like it a lot...
be advised the FF community usually are less interested in side-line figs than in on-pitch figs, but I'm sure Impact! would be happy to cast this model up once he is finished..

nice!
I realy like his face! a sneaky vendor face!
the pointing finger does look a bit dodgy on the pics but might just be the pics.
also I'm not a big fan of the hat, don't realy what it could be changed into though..
I'm looking forward seeing the bwarf rat-on-a-stick vendor!

I like this guy. He would come in handy on a custom pitch, or possible worked into a spot in the rules pack for a game, or a "Lil' Shop of Orrors" type thing.

Amazing figure. A tiny little point though: The wire is showing under the heel of the raised foot. I've found that bending the shape of the feet, letting the wire protrude somewhere on the front half of the foot instead prevents that problem and makes posing slightly easier. But I suppose it's easy enough to just clip of or file down.
I'd buy him. Definitely.

Excellent sculpt! I have to say that I will more than likely buy one if they get cast. Especially if he had a vending cart to go with him.
I love the completely untrustworthy look that you have acheived. Absolutely superb!
It's sculpts like this that keep me putting off doing my own, for fear of not being able to do my ideas justice!
+ can we see the concept sketches for the dwarf vender? I'm interested in how much detail goes into the ideas before the sculpting starts.

Great work. I'll have one, and if the Dwarf is as good I'll have one of those too! Don't know what I'd use them for, but they'd add character to any sideline or dugout.
"Sausage in a bun for your players mister, it'll give them the runs faster... I mean it'll make them run faster!"
Then, because I'm feeling nice, I'll let you start work on a troll bodyguard (with Watchman conversion kit) and a touchline WizZard

I really like him and would buy this mini. The only thing that i'm not to sure about is the hat, reminds me of the Smurfs. I'd rather he had a hat like one of these.
Please do the Dwarf that would be great, and i'd have a lot more use for the Dwarf.

That's a great little sculpt - the face gives him real character. I'm looking forward to seeing how he turns out!

I really like him. 'Cut my own throat' - I think he'd make a great fantasy football figure for the sideline

I think this may be a mini that atracts intrest outside of the FF community as well. Much in the same way the Beer Garden Babe did, though probably not that much attention.
I hope to see the mini casted i'm a sucker for more sideline stuff.

Hello chaps,
Thanks for your input.
I've moved the wire into the toe of the shoe, which looks neater and will bring the base tab into line with the axis of the body. Cheers Alf! I've also smoothed a few things out and should have him done in the next day or so.
I'm not sure I'll be able to shoehorn a tray onto him, so I think the barrow is the way to go. Thanks fellers.
His little (ha, ha) friend is well on the way too. He's more of a grumpy bloke, being a dwarf and all. Antipixi: I only did a very, very brief sketch of the dwarf. I already sort of had an idea of what I wanted, so just got down to it. I should have some pics soon enough.
Please don't be put off by Dibbler, just get sculpting! It's great fun and I'm sure you'll be producing masterpieces in no time. There is lots of information knocking about for prospective sculptors, try 1listsculpting for a great start.
Thanks guys!

Sorry to double post, but here is a quick snap of the dwarf:

Okay ... but I'm not sure how you are going to turn that into Rat on a Stick vendor .... curious to see this develop as the arms seem limited in their ability to show him a meat on a stick vendor.
I like your Not Dibbler. He has most the elements I was hoping for as I really like the sketch work for this guy from the series (for those of you who do not know ... see below): Now since he doesn't have the neck hanging vending cart ... we need to have a small grill for him that has the buns, and uncooked (and some cooking) meats and such arranged convincingly to really top him off. Maybe do the grill as one piece and then do a sprue with sausages and buns and another with rat on a stick type products.
So for the Not-Dibbler you could have the sausages on the grill if desired and put the buns in a "warming tray" on the side of the grill. For the Dwarf vendor ... rats of various sizes on a stick could go on the grill and in the warming tray as well ... so 5 figs (Not Dibbler, Dwarf Vendor, Grill, Sausage and Bun sprue, and Rat on a stick sprue ... to make the how ensemble). Just my thoughts on possibilities.
My only comment on looking at this picture again ... I do agree that I like the hat more of the Dibbler in the picture than the hat on the current sculpt. But its not a huge deal breaker in my mind as I can easily cut off the hat and redo it to with ProCreate to be more like the artwork hat ... so as long as conversion looks simple ... I'm fine.

Since I'd sort of given up on giving not-Dibbler a tray, I'd moved on to a barrow, since in some of the books he pushes one with his wares on board. As a result, I thought the dwarf would work, since his context would make the purpose clear. Alternatively, you could plonk him next to almost anything and he would fit, more-or-less. I also considered an alternative with him shouting, hand by his mouth and probably a RoaS in his other hand. Almost the opposite of his human associate. In part, that's one of the reasons I didn't use the idea; it struck me as being a bit too repetitive.
The tray could still work though, I suppose. I didn't fancy covering up the detail around his neck area. A tray could still be added, however, though to ape the design in the picture exactly would make for difficult casting.
As for his hat, I kind of interpreted the one in the pic as a phrygian cap. On reflection, I think the bit that folds back is too far forwards, making him look more like a smurf. It would be easy enough to modify it either with the top bit further back, a design like the paper ones Xtreme linked to, or whatever suits.

Nexus ... I don't think the tray would work ... its a matter of balance the more I thought about it. A human being has to put effort into backwards pull to keep a heavy tray like the one Dibbler has from pulling him forward into a fall. A miniature has no muscles to do this. So it would be very difficult to design a convincing tray that did not also automatically knock over the mini with the slightly breeze.
I think the idea of the cart is the best way to go. And I agree that if you had a rat on a stick sprue .... the stolid dwarf you are working on should work (especially if he was wearing something like a apron? (just a thought).
All in all I love it and if you redo the hat cool ... if not ... like I said ... I still really look forward to casting up or if you didn't plan on using Impact! ... then getting the miniature from whoever casts it.

I'm really looking forward to being able to paint him and I can't wait to see more of your stuff. I've been looking for some sort of sideline vendors and I think he looks great.
How about a potion vendor that we could use for Street Bowl? Perhaps a shop keeper to run the Little Shop of 'Orrors?

I'd always intended for the dwarf to get an apron. The hanging dead rats is a stroke of genius, though.
I'm still beavering away at these two, and have made a start on their barrow.
