It was a great show, just got back from it. First day of school holidays here in SA, so I have been listening to how bored my son is all day. Only two more weeks
Pretty much listen to this most days
http://www.mymmm.com.au
They play a lot of older music, as I am an older type person, along with the better newer music.
Some funny close to the core radio announcers, especially Tough Love.
Live stream
http://www.mymmm.com.au/5mmmstreaming.asx
Not on the net mind you, local radio station
Saves getting up to change CD's
But I listen to all sorts of music so long as it is good, some music is just too hard to listen too.

I'm working my way through this list for new music (new as in I haven't heard it before.)
http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/steveparker/1001albums.htm
I'm at 134/1001 atm. But I've slowed down a lot recently as my free time evaporates in the Autumn/winter time.
Without that list I would never have listened to Hole, The Flaming Lips, Kings of Leon, Sigur Rós and The Cure (to pull a few examples out.)

No, the difference being that one was a great rock group of talented musicians and the other is a bloated, self absorbed, perpetual re-mixer of crap that once only took up space in the background of great tracks.
That's like saying eating a bowl of A-1 sauce is like eating a steak.
Sorry...I just feel strongly about this. I bought Make Them Die Slowly in 89 and was pushing that band into the ears of everyone I knew for a very long time, only to have them break out just long enough for Rob to pull a "Johnny Bravo" on his band mates.
The second Rob Zombie runs out of 60's B movies to play samples from while beats that Sean put together are remixed ad nauseum he'll move to a different media and begin ripping off other people...
...oops too late!
Sorry for my rant. It just sucks when people you admire turn out to be assholes.

That's interesting because I just recently pulled out a bunch of the "grunge" and made a mixed cd. Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, Temple of the Dog etc. Soundgarden was probably my favorite to come out of that scene.
|
Darkson
|
Mudhoney - I had one of their albums on tape, though I can't remember the name. It had a song called (iirc) "Checkout Time" on it. Must find that one out.
AiC and TotD were both bands I wanted to get into, but never seemed to have enough money to get their albums when I was younger.

Dark Lord

Temple of the Dog was pretty good, I mean that many talented individuals coming together for an album with that much emotion just can't miss IMO.
AiC is one that I would recommend you check out now! I'm sure you can find some used CDs in a record shop somewhere. Facelift and Dirt are essential if you ask me. I don't know how much impact they had over there but over here when all that Seattle stuff hit it really was big. Pearl Jam was probably the big daddy of it all with Nirvana a close second but IMO both Soundgarden and AiC were way more interesting to listen to.

That said I do see what you mean. I would imagine that most of my playlists on here stem from the mid 90's or sooner (or music that belongs in that era but is released now).
All the little Trivi-nuts nuts thinking they live in the golden age have missed the boat by quite a few years unfortunately (but "The Crusade" is one of the best Metal albums released in years, I've knackered my speakers listening to that!). I still buy more back catalogue music than new releases.
It's sad that this quote is about 15 years old, but it still feels right (paraphrased, I'm not looking at it)-

Dropkick Murphys: Black Out; Sing Loud, Sing Proud
Mudhoney: Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge (cheers for the title DL)
Temple of the Dog
My Chemical Romance: I Brought You Bullets, You Brought Me our Love
Fall Out Boy: Infinity on High
Kings of Leon: Youth & Young Manhood
Scissor Sisters Ta-Dah
And The Alternative Album vol. 5 and Broken Dreams I and II.
Still waiting to place an order for ANthrax "Attack of the Killer Bs" (love Bring The Noise" with Run DMC), and I'm still looking for a copy of Suicidal Tendencies "Lights, Camera, Revolution", but they've told the label it's on is to small for them to order.

That's a great song (and I like most of your selections there, in general), but... "Bring the Noise" is Anthrax and Public Enemy, not Run DMC (Run DMC's rap/rock fusion was "Walk This Way" with Aerosmith).

The only Anthrax I have is "the collection". I still love "got the time", what a cover! "Bring the Noise" is on that too, so if you fail to get option 1, there is an option 2 with other great stuff on it too
