Optional Rules - faster gaining abilities

I like many of the new rules and suggestions but if I could change one of them (or maybe tweak is a better word) it is the one about how players gain more experience points quicker. The alternate system is a bit too much like the 'other game' in that it is all about what an individual player does and one of the things about the standard system in Elfball is that it is more team orientated. So how about something like this:

Roll a d6 at the the end of the game (much of this is stolen from Phil Bowen's 0-12 linemen website by the way which given the origins of Elfball is quite appropriate I would suggest) for each player and apply mods:

Team won +1
Player put opposition in infirmary with a tackle +1 (just to him)
(Maybe) interception (again just to that player) +1
(Maybe long pass) (and for that player again) +1

I would prefer in many ways to not have individual bonuses because a throwers job after all is to make passes. This is dealt with by the skills that he has access to. Why should he get more points quicker than the Midfielder that has to take on the Ice Troll? He is already more skilled by the nature of his position.

Then compare roll to table:

1-4: 1 Exp points gained
5-6: 2 exps gained
7-8: 3 exps gained
9-10: 4 exps gained

The numbers can be tweaked at leisure but Phil's system placed the onus on every member of a team gaining experience as a team rather than individual players zooming off into the distance at the expense of their team mates. I would love any comments or suggestions as to how this could be altered or changed in any way.

cool!

im thinking though, are you running those numbers with say 3 points per skill? I think it would fit nicely with 3-5pts per skill

This is actually one of those points that we have to be really careful about. If we are suggesting a deviation in how quickly players are gaining exp points we have to bear in mind the total they need to get. Because once you move away from 5 points for a skill then you instantly have teams that can't really play against a team that was gaining skills in the alternate system. When I did the numbers (very quickly and I am no maths buff) then I was thinking about it being to 5 points still. Someone would need to look at it properly to see how quickly players would begin to skill up but after all, this is a mod which would be used when coaches want players to have more quicker.
