Phils Phigs - Valkyrie ThrowerThis one caught me by suprise. A new fig from Phil. This particular line has been a favorite of mine and I was very eager to see what I could do. I've tried in the past but could never come up with a scheme that matched the orginal so with this new fig I threw free thought out the window and decided Phil had done it best and I should just follow his lead.
I made a few mistakes but overall I'm happy with the results. If I could only figure out a symbol to put on the helmet. I way toying with the idea of a star or a stripe down the middle but I thought I should just finish up and save that for another day.
Well here she is.

Looks great Urb, though I agree that Helmet could use something

Damn good job Urb. You always seem to push me more and more to perfect my paint jobs.
Now I want to get a Valk team to see what I can come up with. As soon as my new VISA card comes in the mail... I'm gettin' me a team.

Thanks guys.
Sallacious. You are gonna love the team. They are a bit cartoony in sculpt but I think that's a good thing in this case. I just love the whole team over all. All the figs seem to have a character about them. Just one looks cool but I can imagine a whole team painted. That would be great. Maybe you'll be the one to provide that.
btw I'm pretty sure your work pushes me to try harder too. Hmmm.. come to think of it.. there's more than a few here that do that. So much talent all in one place.

I always like it when you post mini-pics and this time again I really like what I see. And I like the sculpt, too. A very nice mini.

If you count the Ice Troll ... the Valkyrie team now has 10 figures related to it. So current plans are to add more to some of the other ranges first from Phil if possible.

Well, I really like that painted thrower too. And wasn't really interested in the old Phigs' valkyries. So I'm wondering if it's because this new valkyrie has a different style (that suits better to me) or if it's just a question of paintjob...

Paint job? naw. The figs are nice. This one is a perfect match for the current valk line of models. There are not alot of painted examples around that show how nice these figs really are. I have few projects to complete but after that I hope to get a few of the older models done. As I have said before these are some of my favorite FF figs reguardless of manufacturer.

There is a spike tourney in Alberta? Dang.. I doubt I'll be able to make it. Just don't have the avaliable funds at the moment.

What I love so much about this sculpt is her expression. It's just right. - even though all you can see is the mouth & below.
Urb - you've done this mini proud. I'd love to see the whole range painted by you now....

I'm looking at the thrower right now, and it matches exactly the style of the other valkyries.
Althought I like Urb's paint scheme better than the other team paintjob, too...

Excellent work as always, Urb! I take it your return to painting means you're finally off the slopes?

Nice shot -- I especially like how it looks like you're jumping straight into the tree! You already saw the picture that summed up my snowboarding season: me in the metal brace after breaking my back. That couldn't be me on the board in your shot, because the rider's not upside down, out of control, and falling on his head! ;)
I've still got to be in the brace one more month and then I'll have a few more months of physical therapy, but every doctor I've seen at every step since it happened all agree that there'll be no lingering effects, after the PT I'll be good as new, I wont be restricted in/from any future activitites, etc. And, most importantly: I specifically made sure that the "no restricted activities" includes snowboarding! The recovery timetable puts me at 100% healed well before there'd be snow on the slopes again down here so I won't even miss any more ride time. Of course, I don't know whether I'll continue trying to learn how to jump next season, but I'll definitely be back on the board.
