Potions and Benches?

Okay, I know you changed the go to the bench on injuries... Does that affect potions as well.  When the potion says all injuries healed and place on bench, may that player return to the pitch in that same test?

PS this should have been in the rules question forum, if you want to move it you can.  It is late and we just finished another 2.5 hour test, really need to figure out how to play faster/better.

bouncer ...

Man I want to play you.  My brother had never played before and we just did his first game with the new 5.1 rules (plus the two optional rules for introductry games) in 90 minutes.

Are you using the 2 introductory rules with 5.1?   I honestly don't know how a game can go 2 1/2 hours with those rules ... you should either run out of players or get to the point where you can win.

=====

As for the potions ... I'm okay with Potion'd players being able to return the same Test.

It is shocking. I instructed 2 people on how to play with the 5.1 rules and I am baffled as to how a game could last 2.5 hours, especially just one test.

If it's multiple tests I don't see a problem with 2.5 hours (after all that's how long fantasy football takes...or can take - 32 turns x 4min = 128 minutes)

But if you're playing to one test I can't see the game going past 90 minutes!

Some of those Vassal guys need to hold my hand and walk me through the software sometime.

Hopefully Lakrillo will turn up too so we might get more than one game going.... in any case I'll deffinately be around for most of tommorow though I might not be immediately available so notice is good.

More good news comes in the form of more recruits. Bumped into a fellow WILer who apparently had been looking for an elfball client so I pointed them in this direction with links and things. Apparently they are a member of Blighty Crusaders and are planning to get a bunch more of their regular elfball group to try it out too

We are uing the full rules, potions, kegs and standard face off and conditionals.  We have played at least 7 games so far and about 15 tests.  This was the first one with the new bench clarification and get up rules.

I am going to try to teach my brother the rules next week (and intentionally not teach my long winded strategy) and see if we can speed it up any.

Secondly, with the potions working to all a player back the same test you might want to change the terminology to be more consistant.  Something like return this player to the reserves.  I think a more consistant use of the word bench would be good.  Something like recovery=not back til after next test starts, bench=start next test, reserves=available to start this test or be used as a substitute.  Another alternative suggestion is have all injured (not seriously or dead) players go to recovery with the more badly hurt ones prone and the ones that can start the next test be standing, but not yet in the reserves/bench box of the board.  (-This idea is my friends), that is how we do it to keep straight who can come on the board from reserves and who cannot.

You could flesh it out however you want, but with the changing of the wording to injuries it has now made the potion wording ambigious IMHO.  Because you specifically say cannot return to pitch in the injury section and use almost identical wording in the potion section (minus the cannot return).  I think this might need to be clarified to can return just for more consistant wording/rulings.  This is a nit picky thing, but I like consistancy.

Sorry if this came across a little jumbled, kinda thinking out loud and wanting to bounce the ideas off y'all.  If anything is unclear feel free to ask questions.

Also, maybe this summer when I am off from work (I teach), I can try out the Vassal Elf Ball.
