Reaper goes back to lead!

And I say, good for them! I hope more companies follow suit and we get cheaper minis!

Very interesting.   I doubt we will follow suit on that.  But it is interesting to see it as a move.  If all the miniatures companies of the world did the same thing ... I wonder what would happen to Indonesia's market.

IE ... how much of the tin market is the miniatures industry.

If I had to guess I would say very little. Tin's most common application is to plate steel cans, the ones you get your peas in, but it's also used for solder and in an alloy for wires with super conductor magnets.

So if I had to guess just based on those few things I know about I'd say the minis market is small potatoes.

Looking at the waiver that allows this to happen:

Lead Exposure Reduction Act of 1994:
Quote:
(4) WAIVERS FOR TOYS AND RECREATIONAL GAME PIECES- Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this subsection, the Administrator shall promulgate regulations to waive the requirements of subsection (a)(2)(B) with respect to certain toys and recreational game pieces that are collectible items and scale models intended for adult acquisition.

Essentially, they are not intended for children. I'm not aware of any such waiver for the EU, and that could be a problem.

I'm certain that the tin price issue has pushed Grandma Wendy towards their mostly-plastic lines. Not a route that the independants can follow, alas.
