Short range rulers.

I don't know how feasible it is, what with IP and all, but Range Rulers that are designed to rotate in the middle, so that they're half the length (and would fit in the team case?).

At the most simple, the ruler in two parts, one end has an extra "tab" and a hole in both parts, with those split pins in them to keep them together, but I'm sure someone could come up with a more elegant design.

I'd try to make these in a second because I think the rulers should be able to fit in the same space as the board when the board is folded up.

The IP issue there is pretty large.

Thought that would be the case.

A while ago I put together a pdf for this, the scatter and throw-in template. But have not been able to get it printed on a hard enough clear plastic. I tried overhead projection sheets but they were too soft :(

i heard that someone used OHP plastic, then laminated it...would that strengthen it some?

With regards to the IP problem.

Would a rotating plastic ruler with four bands and no other markings other than the line down the middle (and a starting mark) be different enough?

Basically a range ruler without the ranges written on it, instead each band could be a progressively darker colour. Could also do a 40mm version then.

I ask the copy shop if they would be willing to laminate it. They said that the ohp transparency cannot be laminated because the heat would probably melt the plastic.

I tried one of those self adhesive contact sheets, but it looked really ugly because there is a lot of tiny bits that while invisible when you stick over an opaque surface is very obvious on a clear one.

A friend of mine suggested I look for someone that can print directly onto the kind of plastic people use a covers when binding loose paper into a ring bound book.

To get them printed, you need to go talk to a screenprinter, preferably one that can do bumper stickers. Look at printing them on heavyweight, clear vellum/cello paper. The ink that's used in screening bumper stickers will not rub off or wear away easily so laminating will not be necessary.

Now the real challenge would be hinging the ruler together!

I'll keep looking. First company I found that could make a hinged plastic ruler needed $7500 to do the project based on their minimum order size.

I'll keep looking.
