Slann/Frogmen Scale

Ok, I'm working on a frogmen team as my first figures to sculpt. I've done sketches got wonderful ideas and started building armatures for my first 2 minis on the team. I used other FF models (newer humans) for reference on torso size. Then I looked at photos of actual frogs leg lengths to set scale. I've hit a problem... When squatting, the armatures are a tad taller than FF gobbos. Just what I had in mind... But when stretched out (required for some of the poses) they are taller than any of the current FF big guys? Do you think this is realistic? (yes, I'm using this term loosely) Should I consider scaling them down a bit? Possibly skink size or generally closer to the std 28mm when stretched out? If you need any visual examples just say so and I'll try to get some up later tonight.

The experimental slann team has very long legs on everybody. So as long as the figure itself is slim then it's entirely reasonable (and expected)for it to be tall when stretched out.

I think that scale sounds about right. Frogmen would be taller than a man if stretched out, and about the same height at normal standing position (i.e. with bent legs). If squatting (i.e. preparing to jump) they would be between a goblin and a man in height. You have seen this picture right (top one)? Not too helpful on the legs, I know.

One thing you could do with Frogmen is use different heights to represent different positions. Linemen types would be quite static, catchers squatting in a dynamic position as if about to leap.

That site uses frames (or whatever it is that stops you from linking to individual sites). But it does allow linked images so here's the slann picture http://www.Fantasy Football.org/images/BB_illus_SP_33.jpg

I love that picture, too many sculpts of frogmen have them with thick necks running to oversized heads. I really hope the Impact! ones have a lot in common with that picture (but different enough to avoid copyright issues of course.)

But what in the blue barnacles of babylon is going on with the guy (rat?) in the bottom left corner.

I totally agree with all that, reliative proportions (as far as you can) , much like rat men arent usually seen to have the same characteristics!

I'm straying away from that illustration and focusing on other imagery. This illustration from an old 2nd ed book makes the slann look too much like lizardmen without tails. Or better yet MUPPETS! If the IMPACT ones look anything like that all I can say is ACK!! What I've been using are photos of actual frogs, current and old Slann models from Grandma Wendy. I'm really leaning towards two things in my concept more than anything. First is the Everquest frogloks. These guys are deffinately frogs, no mistaking that. But their stature is also human-like. I'm also looking at the current Grandma Wendy Slann models. If you take the "current" Slann and put em on a diet and send em to the gym... that's the final look I'm really going for.
I know what you're possibly thinking, frogs like this are too cartoon-like for my taste. The fact is, without properly done clothing/armor/accessories they have no choice but to look a little cartoon-like. It's the embellishments that are going to push the models beyong that point. Chains, pads, spikes, a few feathers to push the theme... It should work.

This is the first pose I'm working on...

That's a slann head-on in close-up isn't it?

Good luck with your sculpt Aerofool! Your sketch looks like a lot of fun. Looks like a good alternative style to the upcoming Impact Calasain (which I gather are very heavilly inspired by that old picture). Very different approaches, and I'm looking forward to seeing both.

Armatures are done for the first 2, and I'm starting to flesh them out. Once they are shaped a bit, I'll post my first set of pics for ideas and such.
