Stars? Will there ever be Special Stars for Elfball? Maybe from a different race as the teams? IMO they were easy to build (not to sculpt! ) and I like Charakter Minis. Count them against the postition they would normaly play in their team and add another 5 points 'cause they need more resources from the team (Star Bonus!).

Star Player minis would be AWESOME!!!
Star Player rules would be THE WORST THING YOU COULD DO TO THIS GAME!!
To echo Tom's sentiments of "A rule for every mini and a mini for every rule."
The second half of that statement is a smart gaming philosophy.
The first half is the best way to ruin games.

keep in mind that if we ever did stars it would be a true freelance player that played for any team ... I will never do team specific stars.
Also his attributes would still sum to 20 ... but I could see him having two abilities. Price would be 30 points.

alsol for Darkson and DL.
IO would only have rules for freelance player in an optional rules supplement ... never part of the main game.

Why even make rules for him?
Make the mini, create the fluff and give him a position.
I almost never used Star Players as the actual Stars. They were used to represent my guys who had achieved Star Player status.
Please don't bring Star Players into the game. If you have to nerf them to regular players then there's no point in even opening the can of worms. And if you make their stats reflect the awesomeness of their fluff then they will wreck the game.
I bet just as many Star Player minis will sell without broken rules as with.

I never wrote make stars like in BlutBowl. I like Charakter Minis much more than superhyped Starplayers! IMO it makes it possible to put some players in the game from other races without making a team for them.

I'm saying there doesn't need to be rules for them.
The stats don't go by race...they go by position.
Orc Midfielders are 533333
Tau Midfielders are 533333
Rat Midfielders are 533333
Watch this I will make a Star Player for you.
There you go. Now I even broke my own rules a little and said he could play for any team...but that is all the ability I would give them. And on second thought I wouldn't even do that. It just doesn't make sense when to throw a wrench into these rules for the sake of copying Grandma Wendy's model.
With the player cost and perfect balance that Elfball has achieved I cannot see why you want to toss it out for something as silly as Star Player miniatures.
Make the minis but please don't add stupid rules allowing rookie teams to hire "Mercs" or "Stars" or "Freebooters" or any other way you want to name cheating.

Why can't you do this right now?
I'm saying there doesn't need to be rules for them at all.
The stats don't go by race...they go by position.
Orc Midfielders are 533333
Tau Midfielders are 533333
Rat Midfielders are 533333
If you want an orc midfielder on your human team then what is stopping you?

message heard DL.
Really I don't see stars as a priority right now to address anyway as we have a LOT of figures left to sculpt and cast from the list I posted.

I would like to see stars representing special characters of my team, for example the top scorer, the captain and so on...
And if you create an optional ruleste (which is optional for anyone who wants to use it) the I think it would be ok.
But then, I would make some stars that wouldn't fit into any race.

superpowerfull starplayers as mercenaries is unnecessary, but there is no real point in naming a character, if in the end its just the same thing anything else ?
tough I must say I kinda miss (in all FF Ive seen actually.) my nice eye-catching leadertype character, even reallife sport have their captains, wich are very likely the best player in there, yet not THAT good that their stats would be different.
the captains seem to be heavily involved in game tactics, morale and inspiring others irl (tough Im not too familiar with real sport rules.)
and this could be represented in rules, without having over the top starplayers, but still adding character to the character.
example : teamcaptain can generate star points, (for example by scoring.. and lose it by blunders, the star points representing morale in a way.) he can use these starpoints for *commands* like give some team member near him an ability or a bonus for one turn (or as long as they remain close.) there's no need for making him expensive or anything, basically every team needs a captain, and every team has one (tough each captain doesnt *belong* to a team to keep the options open, he can be hired by all, or several to do the leading.)
all purely hypothetical/meant for example, I dont mean this should be added nor even considered for future releases :)
I think this way would be a too major change, and the game is so close to being finished.

Ask yourselves:
Do you use Star Players in Bl00d B0wl? Or do you use the star player miniatures to represent your own players who have achieved star status?
Seriously guys, why this fascination with increasing the ability scores?
Elfball has a well designed and balanced system for player improvement.
WHY MESS IT UP?
Star Players will develop on their own.
Forcing them in to sell miniatures is a bad bad bad idea. I'm sorry.
Now that doesn't mean there can't be star player miniatures. Why do you need a set of rules (especially damaging ones) to use a mini?
Do you only use the Morg N' Thorg mini to represent Morg? Or do you use it to represent basic ogres too?

'Cause I think the costs to hire a special charakter should be a bit higher. Galak wrote the same: Player 15 points + 2 Skill 10 points + 5 points = 30 points ...
Last but not least: I ask only a question, because I like to see more special charakters. It's not up to me to put those players into the standard game, if I want to do so I have to create house rules on my own ... absolutly clear. But there is no cause to be .... it's only a discussion.

My point was that you said you didn't ask for star players like FF but I don't see how making developed players that a team can have without earning them is different than FF.
Remember- There is no money in Elfball. This isn't something you have to save up for. A rookie team can grab one of these guys out of the gate and start winning games.
And so you like character minis. So do I and I would love to see them.
All I keep (repeatedly) asking you is whether or not you need the rules to buy the minis. I don't.
And lastly the reason I am so about this is because after playing this game twice now (apologies for no critique yet) one thing I am certain of is that it is much more balanced that Bl00d B0wl ever will be.
And I know I am ticking a few people off but it seems like every two weeks somebody is suggesting Bl00d B0wl like changes to this game.
I'm not about it anymore. Tom has said that there won't be Star Player rules. I trust him.
But don't expect me to not counter your suggestions of broken star player rules with the following.
1. Please playtest the league rules if you haven't already. They are very well balanced.
2. Please just play the game at all. It is different from that other game in many many ways. From surface appearance to strategy to rhythm the game is a total different game.
3. Miniatures don't need rules to exist. Just as Elfball is not Bl00d B0wl, Impact! is not G@me$ W0rk$h0p. If you participate in Impact you will get what you want. If you want certain Star Player minis then start drawing some sketches, or ask somebody who can draw to translate you idea to a drawing and sculpt it. That's what Impact does.
So I hope there's no hard feelings. I understand that you want special character minis. I just want you to understand that at Impact to get special characters you don't need to suggest "Vault" rules. You need to design the miniature. Rules for it are optional.
Example- I want a Beholder player. I drew a picture and began sculpting in Sculpey. Tom liked what he saw and since I was already in Impact's employ he sent me a bit of Procreate so I could do it properly. I have now rethought my idea and started work on a Beholder Referee.
When it is complete it will go in the Targeted Impact range for people to pre-order. You see? If you want an orc star or something start drawin, scupting, writing a description or whatever.
BTW I am also working on some Fantasy Football style fine art. These will be mini posters, around 16" x 12", black and white charcoal drawings of Elfball and Bl00d B0wl action. I will be selling prints of them, if Impact want to help me sell them then I will make them exclusive (or if they want to buy the orginals! ). Otherwise watch eBay, TBB, etc.

Eric ...
I have no problem selling any art you do through our store as long as
a) we work out a cut for Impact! of the action ... and
b) it is IP infringement free (and I'm not talking about Impact!'s IP )

Also just so you know ... I'll be re-organizing the website due to the release of a proper Elfball board game.
I will be putting each Elfball team in its own space.
Any figures that we sell that do not have Elfball rules ... will go in either Sudden or Targeted depending on their sourcing.

The art in question is still being sketched so maybe I'll run anything questionable by you. But I have kept it "gender neutral" but leaning more to Elfball.
Basically what I did was this. I did a Google image search for Rugby and NFL action shots to use as references. Then replaced the humans with Elfball types. There is one that uses an Anubis Safety and a Night Elf so it is pretty blatantly Elfball but in another I used a Night Elf, a Heresy style Human and some Imps in the background...so it could go either way.
My favorite and probably the closest to any IP violation is one based off of this image.
I gave Y. A. Tittle soem elf ears, got rid of the goal posts, and changed the uniform just enough to make it fantasy. I think parody covers my butt on that one though.
If you don't know who that is it is Y. A. Tittle. He was QB for the NY Giants from 1960-1964. In 1961, `62 and `63 the Giants went to and lost the Championship game. In the 1963 Y. A. had hurt his leg and kept playing. He took himself beyond his limits and struggled the entire game. They lost 14 - 10 and at the end of the game, covered in blood, he just knelt down in defeat.

The Beholder is that special charakter I want to see in Elfball, 'cause this is the fantasy style I miss in others games. These are the special charakters I mean ... give him a cool name und I have what I want.

Name: Jeery Seeman
Position: Referee
Nothing gets past the 10 eyes of "Beautiful" Jeery Seeman. A yellow card gets you a look from the sleep or charm eye...a red card...well you don't want to know.
Did You Know?
Jerry presence on the pitch has replaced the need for instant replay and he now officiates over all championship Elfball games.

And he can be bribed ... so use him to represent the Bribed Referee counter for Elfball.
No special rules needed.
