Stuff coming out this yearOkay so while we are in shut down mode for new stuff this year ... you are still going to see some new stuff from things that were in the works already at the end of last year. Putting this hear instead of official announcements as it more a casual conversation topic rather than a press release (which the other forum area is used for).
Items in the works:
New Releases in early March:
Dark Sphere Treeman
Middle Kingdoms Hand Sprue
5th Striker for the Middle Kingdoms team
Limited Edition figures being made for tournaments that will sell in our store sometime this year:
Eucalyptus Bowl (2 figures)
ARBBL (1 figure)
Challenge of Q'uermitt (1 figure)
Stupor Bowl II (1 figure)
SSB (1 figure)
BBForo (1 figure)
Zlurpee (1 figure)
GenCon Bowl (1 figure)
We also helped with figures for the Eucalyptus Bowl and B7s tournaments that will be fully purchased by them ... so none for the store ... sorry!
We plan to stock the full non-nude line of football figures from RollJordan in Italy.
We also plan to add two more figures from Heresy to fill out some extra goodness for the Samhaino team.
The Skill Ring product will be expanded in two different manners.
We are working with another company that just released a new fantasy sports not-football board game (in fact I'm really psyched as they added my name in the Credits for their version 1.1 rulebook for helping totally redesign the stats for the 9 races in the game after reading through the rulebook the 1st week it was out and sending my thoughts to them on what I might change). We are also working with them and our sculptors to produce 10 figures for their game as right now it only uses cardstock counters. (note for those wondering ... this project is no cost to Impact! which is why we are pursuing it ... just didn't want you to say ... "hey what's going on here!") Not going to say more than this even if you ask as its still very early in our talks on this.
We've been contacted by another company that is working on fantasy figures for another sport other than football/rugby. We are looking to carry that line of figures as our goal for several years has been to expand Impact! into other fantasy sports board games. I don't want to say more on this yet as its still pretty early in discussions.
I think that covers the goodness going on right now. So even though we are in slow down for this year ... you should still see some fun new stuff appear.

At this time its just one other board game.
We are still working through the details on it.
More on this game to follow ... if we get permission to sell it on our site ... more to follow.

====
The other at this time is just a fun range of fantasy figures for another sport. Maybe a game to follow at some point. However ... the company working on them is still working on having the range made ... so as I've learned in this business that's a big step ... so we wait.

Not sure how well we could lift this game from him.
Tell you what ... let us get the Sarcos bar dealt with and after the Sarcos team is paid for if you remind me that I promised to do so ... I'll talk to Neil and see what is up with Razorball.
I saw a lot of interest with this game on the forums and maybe we could work something out with Neil.

Yeah! Razorball would be great. Since I watch the Rollerball movie I always wanted to have such a game. There's indeed a table game created by some guy, but it is a little bit complex:

I look forward to Tom's efforts to get this game published.

I don't mind girl teams as long as they aren't girly teams. Amazons are okay, but I painted pants on mine, same with Widows mine wear spandex...the boobs peeking out is pushing it IMO.
It like my old rant about the Shadowforge nuns. A great concept IMO, because it's funny to see nuns kickin' teeth in but it also sort of makes sense if you know any nuns. They love that sort of thing...okay maybe not football but nuns do sports, I have seen it.
But to have them stripped down to bikinis is not only offensive to women and nuns, but it just doesn't make sense. It takes a concept team and turns it into a gimmick team. It would have been so much better to see them armored up in their holy armor of God with giant rosary belts, or nasty looking rosary chains wrapped around their arms.
So I'm all for more ladies of Impact, as long as they're ladies and not bimbos.
|

I guess it depends what role they fulfil.. cheerleaders and beer sellers should be air-headed sluts with big knockers and small outfits, but female players should be pretty tough looking I would say..
the issue is that we are basically geeks (except you nerds! leave us geeks alone! ) and geeks like to buy skin. I guess it starts at 13 when you can't afford (or reach in my case ) Playboy and it escalates from there..
sex sells.. but Impact! has always tried to stay on the tasteful side of sexy without ever descending into "tyts-oot" minis.. not that I have any issue with the nekkid models out there - I even own a couple - but only as sideline staff, not as players..
ironically, the closest Impact! has ever come to casting nudity were the first sculptings of the (male but only just) hobimps..

| Norse wrote: | | I guess it depends what role they fulfil.. cheerleaders and beer sellers should be air-headed sluts with big knockers and small outfits, |
I have no issue with that. It's only gratuitous nudity I object to.
However, I do think the gaming community in general needs to clean up its act (both consumers and publishers). The status quo is what keeps a lot of females away from the games, and keeps the image of a bunch of geeks who have never actually seen a "tyt oot."
And if more females were interested in gaming there would be more potential customers.
|
Cephalopod
|
DL, I admit that this is inductive logic but all of the female gamers I know are quite fond of the partially clad female models. I've yet to meet one that was offended by the model. Our female Elfball player loves the nuns, the Black Widows and the bunny football teams.
Now, I have met several male gamers who have been offended and I can respect that, but I don't see it and, happily, I probably never will. Its a model, not a human being and no one is being insulted or exploited. The model represents a person, but no reasonable human being will have trouble distinguishing between reality and this fictional model.
I'd have more but I must get back to work.
|
Dark Lord
|
Well by your logic porn magazines are not people either. They are color on a page.
I can tell you I have 2 sisters who did not care for the Valkyries cover, and a wife that won't play any game that has "chainmail bikinis"
There are two women in my rpg group (3 actually) and none of them go off on tirades about the stuff, but that doesn't mean they aren't offended. It also doesn't mean that they wouldn't prefer books and minis that weren't blatantly sexist. My sisters didn't like the cover but all they did was roll their eyes. Steph asked "Why do the women always have to be half naked?" but she still played it.
Just because somebody doesn't complain doesn't mean they aren't offended. No doubt there are some women who don't mind the nuns, no doubt there are some Catholics too. But there's plenty of Irish who aren't offended by the stupidity in America on St. Patrick's Day. It doesn't make it any less racist.
Anecdotal evidence means nothing to me, sorry.
|
Cephalopod
|
Well, I am completely with you. I guess the point I failed to make is that you can't please everybody. Your example was that women are offended by the models, and I used an an example that there are exceptions to this. I'm not saying that all women like them, that would be naive of me. I just feel that saying "we shouldn't have them because all women are offended" is also untenable for the same reason.
Now, by my logic pornography involves real people and human trafficking for the sex trade is a real and growing problem. Really, lumps of pewter and the aforementioned porno is not at all comparable. I'll just point out that I have been guilty of using straw man arguments in the past, and I understand how that can happen without any intention to mislead. I would blow up here, but I like you quite a bit and respect you so I'll reign it in.
In regards to the value of Anecdotes: Anecdotes have a value in a non-scientific discussion like this, as really neither of us has hard numbers about the impact of scantily clad pewter sculpture and its effect on women. All we have is personal experience.

ah but the valkyrie team includes wolfmen and the target impact viking, which rocks btw. so technically they are a mixed gender team. there's no denying that buxom amazonian types are popular, but if female minis were the selling point then surely the widowmaker team would sell more?

Top 3 selling Elfball teams:
Valkyries, Deadling, Black Widows (in that order)
8 of our top 15 selling human sized figures are female.

that's pretty much 50/50, which is really a compliment. shows that you haven't really favoured one team. Granny Wendy is really bad for favouring best sellers.

By all means blow up at me. I can take it; I certainly dish it out. But all I ask is that it is done in PM. I find that heated debate in private always is more fun, if not productive, than in public. No matter how much we may want to deny it, ego and "winning" is always the undercurrent.

I agree, I just get so tired of stating a point of view or the side of an argument on a message board only to have someone say, "Nuh uh, cuz I know one example that that is an exception." (See any section of TBB for examples ) It's tiresome, although I see that's not what you did, so I apologize for being snotty.

I got a chuckle because one of the figures that was started as a project before we went into pay off the debt mode was a 2nd Beer Garden Beauty. (more USA Hooters Garden than German Beer Garden).
The sculptor sent us pics of the green as a nude sculpt to approve before clothing here. She looked good (and if we sold those types of figures ... we'd could just cast her now) ... I mean a hot nude woman offering a tall can of cold beer ... isn't that like an iconic dream item.

and one last thought: next time, instead of pandering to all the 11 year olds(or those with 11year old metalitys), add something to a game. a race thats not reprsented yet in miniature, or look through a fantasy monster book...plenty there that can be brought to life. and it does'nt have to have tits(my wife has enough for me ...come to think of it, she has enough for many

and all i said was make the razorball players male, or mix teams are cool.

I think we can all agree that mixed teams are the preferred roll out. They need not even be human. What does making still more all female teams accomplish? Well, parity for starters. There are a great deal more male models than female ones, regardless of race, so by those terms there is still a great deal of room for female models (regardless of clothing or lack thereof).
That being said I'm sure Impact! will make models that look good regardless of race or gender.
| bound for glory wrote: | | and one last thought: next time, instead of pandering to all the 11 year olds(or those with 11year old metalitys), add something to a game. |
*sigh* Ok. So now we're down to personal attacks because some people prefer one aesthetic over another? I'm taking the high road here.
I'll go on the record as saying that I'm quite fond of the models that Impact! sells, including the models that seem to be causing such concern. I'll go on to say that I am far from the "11 year old mentality" that you have decided to attribute to me.
However, I do admit that my devout hope is that Impact! panders to me by having a cuttlefish or octopus model made one of these days. If it is a scantily clad female, all the better. I know I'll buy a whole team's worth.

Oh, I can't do that. Then it would seem to be just self-serving and shameless aggrandizement of Cephalopods everywhere.
Besides, I want to keep this one as close to the game that Impact! has made as possible so that people playing one can easily switch to the other. How upset would the (millions) of people that liked the cuttlefish team be if they couldn't buy the model from the handy web-link to Impact's store? The last thing we need is anarchy on that scale.

We do have 3 sexy figures in the pipeline ... but the rest of the items being worked on and cast ... are pretty far away from sexy.
A human thrower, an ancient egyptian blitzer, a female ogre, a vampire, another animorph player, the Dark Sphere Treeman, another human catcher for Middle Kingdoms team, a hand sprue, an Orc Thrower/Blitzer, and hopefull at some point another Viking player.
So my comment would be to Bound for Glory ... I don't think you need to worry about female teams from Impact! for years to come.
The next team we have planned is Sarcos .... no women there. After that is the Timberline Elves ... which is mixed race 4 men / 4 women / 4 dryads. After that we plan to look into Orcs (all male) and Ratmen (all male). And probably mixed in there will be some Goblins and if I have anything to do about it I want to make 4 Samhaino Hunters as large strong warriors modeled after the four Horsemen of the Apocolypse.
So Bound for Glory ... some female figures .. yes .. full female teams are just not planned for some time to come (at least as far out as I can see right now).

Why not? The beach volleyballers I've met were all vicious bitches (at least when I approached them! ). |
And if those vicious bitches showed up to play football they would probably put some clothes on. |
Haven't you checked Lingerie football? the main idea is they don't wear that many clothes :P

Flaw in your logic is that the Lingerie Bowl is touch football.

Where is the flaw in that?
|

Oh there's no flaw in the lingerie, and no flaw in the touching part either, just in any justification for females playing full contact in bikinis.

I guess we can have lingerie Rugby and that way we can avoid armour and other protections... I would love to play touch football wit those fine ladies... even if the thing they play it's not real football...

. . . <Snip!> . . .
Steph asked "Why do the women always have to be half naked?" but she still played it.
. . . <Snip!> . . . |
Thats just the opposite of my situation, there are three female gamers in my weekly Role Playing group also. None of them have ever voice any issues with chainmail bikinis. Just the opposite, one of them collects "Chainmail Bikini" type art, Luis Royo in particular (I know many women who love Royo and Valejo style art) and another was recently shopping for a real chainmail bikini costume for next Halloween. . .
I find is rather amazing that this is even an issue and my initial gut reaction (Yes I realize it is grossly unfair of me) was "Feminazi's" when I read your post. Obviously though, there are others here who feel the same way as you and your family, so I guess it is much more of a social issue than I had ever imagined.
From my point of view, the classic "Football" type just doesn't do it for me. I really prefer the Wahhoo! and even silly type minis. Scantily clad women fill that bill for me!
*Note: Of the five people currently painting teams for our league, one woman is painting Deadlings (They are soooo cute!), the other woman is painting SF Nuns, all three male players are also painting female teams, SF Elves (He is also doing a Black Widow back up team) , Valkyries & SF Bunnies. While I have an Ogre conversion going (in slow motion), that team also features two scantly clad females. . . In our group at least, the female teams are the standard. (Too bad there are no suitable female scarecrows!)

it doesn't matter what you say or do. someone will always be offended and someone will always agree with you.

Again, because it seems like people just don't understand what I am saying. I'll try to be clearer.
It's not female minis that bother me. It's not even sexy female minis that bother me...heck, it's not even sexy football playing minis that bother me!
What bothers me is two fold. I don't like fantasy football minis that don't look like they are for playing football. Just like Darkson doesn't like minis that are dressed like medieval warriors, I don't like football minis that are dressed like beach bunnies. It doesn't make sense to go play a rough and tumble game and not wear protection!
It doubly doesn't make sense when the people dressed like beach bunnies belong to an order that encourages humility and celibacy. And sorry, but I know nuns personally (I shared an art studio with one) and while I am not catholic, nor do I agree with all the tenets of the monastic lifestyle, I respect it (in all faiths) and that means I don't think it's right to make "slutty" nuns.
(Note: It doesn't mean I think less of any of you for buying those minis)
Now, about my sisters. Please read what I wrote. Nobody freaked out and said, "That's sexist! I hate that game!"
No, my older sister rolled her eyes and said, "Why do your games always have half naked women on them?" My younger sister said, "Just once I'd like to see these women drawn with real proportions."
So I'm not slamming anyone for liking what they like. I look at plenty of half naked women, I love the Boobie Blog fer cryin' out loud.
I would, however, like to see this:
or this:
I don't mind a nun team, but I'd like to see some pads on them, and some mean looks. Save the sex for the bunny team.
My opinion wouldn't change if they made a monk team that was a bunch of guys in loin cloths making sexy poses, would yours?

Dark Lord, I just spent part of my evening building an anatomically correct dwarf centaur. Now that deserves some complaint. My wife is still laughing.
Actually, it is pretty funny... and armored! I wish I had a form-fitting codpiece!

Didn't do the rest but I made these up for the Black Rock player as a place holder until Impact made the boar centaurs. I toyed with making green stuff, balls but in the end I just wanted to get them done fast.

Stuff coming out this year...
The Spanish FF Forum Miniature:
http://mephisto84.wordpress.com/2009/03/02/miniatura-del-foro-setekh/
Still in process. Tom de Wulf is changing some things. The miniature is great. The first picture is the most recent one.
What do you think?
I have told him to change the face in order to make it more aggressive and to make the ears shorter.

it's a great sculpt, though I have concerns about that spine in casting..
why did you not go with DL's more muscular style sketch??
|

Apart from the face; and helmet; I like it a lot. The helmet looks somewhat uninspired and the face looks a bit like a retard trying to look tough.
I hope it can be fixed.

Setekh is really pissed being called a bunny rabbit.
Rabid yes, rabbit no.
Here's a wikipedia reference to Setekh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Setekh).
This might explain his helmet better.
And they are donkey ears.

hate to come in late on this - but i dont think the beer garden beauty sells well because its got bewbs. it sells well because a certain other game has rules for female sideline beer-distributors, and a certain company doesnt provide minis for them.
on that note, the other company only sells 1 (very average quality) female team, and i expect a lot of the female teams might possibly be bought to fill in there. Impact filled this niche (thank god), and i dont think it should take any flak for it now :P
after all that, i concur 100% with DL's post on the nuns and having girls in football pads. (those 2 in the pic were alluring in a strange way)

It should be noted as the topic of the thread is stuff we are coming out with this year that Impact! is not actually going to sell any of these figures in our store.
They are going to be an exclusive sold by Mephisto that we helped arrange the sculpting and casting of.
As normal ... I think Tom DeWulf created a great looking model and I look forward to seeing him in metal and painted.

Wow! I leave you boys alone for a few days and you degrade to this, geez! On a personal note, I have seen a lot of female figs and Impact! really does the best proportional and respectful job out there. And no the women figs are not just for you 13 year olds in heat. We girls do like to use the female players as well, so that market is larger for a simple reason, a wider audience.
Now back on topic:
| Norse wrote: | | it's a great sculpt, though I have concerns about that spine in casting.. |
Looking at the arms... is the upper arm going to cause a problem being so slim compared to the hand and wrist area? Simliar casting problem as the spine maybe?
Norse, returning to page 1, you mentioned something that you are commissioning. Do you have any hints for us or did I just miss it with all the drama?

haha, I knew it would take a lady to pick up on my teasing..
well, it's a model we (or more specifically me) have wanted to do since day one.. and it's hard to get right because the particular creature is not only mythical, but hardly ever drawn or described...
let's just say that.. no, that's too obvious.. sorry..

A Zombie posting a comment on the internet?
A Valen without a drink in his hand?

ARBBL Open fig 2009:
I was worried that it just appealed to my strange sense of humour, but:
| duttydave on TBB wrote: | I have to say the free tournament figure is absolutely brilliant, a really deviant and evil looking sculpt. All the conspirators involved in the creation of this figure must be a warped bunch " |
so that's at least 4 satisfied coaches.
(Dave, I know you post here as well, so if you want me to remove this, just say.)

I really like it. It will fit in well with the Pharaoh team, but the style doesn't quite look like the original sculptor's (Victoria).
Speaking of which, are we ever going to see something by her again?

I think she must have realized how good she was and raised her prices.
She did these for her game. I downloaded the rules but I have yet to play it.

Only vaguely on topic, but were/are there still plans for a "Grandma Wendy" mini?
If there are, where do these stand development-wise (even if it will be after Impact! are in the black before anything is released?)

But its a wait until we are in the black type project. Its on my list to do somewhere along with my 4 Apocolypse Horsemen Warriors and the 9 Goblin Maniacs. Ah .. so many projects ... if only money did grow on one of my fruit trees.

Actually ... Victoria said she really enjoyed working with us and was happy with the money she received (she still gets 10% of the gross sales of the Pharaohs).
She just does a LOT of other stuff ( http://cerise.theirisnetwork.org/archives/468 )
And she really wanted to try and make her own line of miniatures and her own board game. But I think the board game may not have made it to real life. Its amazing how expensive it is to try to make a go of a company like this.
Every quarter when we send Victoria her commission check she comments that someday she might work with us again if she gets some spare time which I would love to see happen. (assuming we had any money to hire her ... )

Now the ARBBL Open is over for another year, I thought I'd post some pics. No pic of the finished fig yet (I might see if my mate can get one painted up quickly), but, for those that won't have seen it:
Final sketch:
Green front:
Green rear:
I was and am absolutely blown away with the fig. Don't get me wrong, the Pumpkinhead from last year is awesome, and much better than what I was expecting (nice to see Matt's team had 4), but this is something else.
As a note, the 2 heads are sepearate and interchangeable, and tjhe right arm is also seperate. I already have a few conversion ideas (cheers to Duttydave for one of them ).
