Thads Climatically presents: Weather Goblins

Bad photos of my Weather Gobbos. I'll try and get better ones at some stage. Maybe. It's taken me long enough to get around to sticking these up.
Note the recurring theme throughout the figures, related to where I obtained them.

Am I alone in thinking that the "Nice" Goblin looks a bit like Watford Legend and former England manager Graham Taylor?
GalakStarscraper

These guys were some of my favourite figures that we've made.  Its almost a crime that they were limited edition.

Well done Thads

I thought you said you couldn't paint?

Nice - mine are sitting in a box waiting until my mate owes me enough "favours" to get him to paint them for me - they're to nice for me to ruin.
Lychanthrope

Nice paint job.  I really wished I would have gotten a set of these.
Thom

I posted this reply before but somehow it got lost

I too wish that it was something more than a limited edition as they were gone long before I could afford to get another order in. . .

I have an honest question for you guys.

And I really mean I'd like honest feedback.

If we brought the set back as a permanent feature but realized the suit and tie goblin with the Motty the Goblin Commentator figure that Norse did .... would that create outrage .... or is that keeping with the limited edition nature of the product.

Putting the question another way ... if one of the 5 figures was truely limited edition never to be cast again .... would offering the set again in the store be a slap to the limited market.

Please note ... as a collector I'm VERY aware of the importance of if you say a figure is limited edition ... its needs to be limited edition.   But I'm not sure in my own head how that applies to a set of figures.   I think I'd be fine with this .... but I'm on the wrong side of this to judge properly and acknowledge that.

I'm not a collector so I can't say how that end of the market would feel.  Part of me says that the Limited set would stay unique the other part of me says that only 1 figure, instead of 5, stays unique.  Some of the collectors reallly need to chime in on how they would feel.
Stout Youngblood

I am both a gamer and collector. I think these are great figures and was lucky enough to get two sets.

I wouldn't mind this set becoming available again but was wondering, besides switching the two figs, if some minor alteration could be done on the others? If not, no biggie as I would still be up for them being released again. Hope this makes sense.   (Yes, I need more caffeine.)
Dark Lord

Stay limited.
Make a new, similar looking set for the rest of us.

And nice paint, Thads!

Cost to Impact!

Sell sets replacing limited suit Nice Motty with current Motty ... zero $

Modify existing set ...  900 $

Brand new sculpts ...  1725 $

I don't see plans B or C happening any time in the next year.

Was just seeing if there was a non-upseting way to sell these to help Impact! with our debt along with the several folks that have told me they were really disappointed these sold out without them getting them.

I can see Impact wanting to sell these since they seem popular, but undoing a "limited" run can be a slippery slope and annoy people. It may look good in the short term, and hell it may slide this time with only minor complaints, but it gets easier to do the next time.

It doesn't take long before you list something as "Limited Edition" and everyone goes, "Yeah right. I'll wait until they re-release it."

If the choices are screw the people who bought it when it was limited and get a re-released version, or nothing I would rather Impact did nothing.

It rewards the faithful customers and will light a fire under the butts of those who see something limited that they like.

Just my humble opinion.
Norse

Tom, I still have some of the "nekkid" goblins we used as armatures...  maybe at GenCon I spend my time "converting" a set to match my Motty..

I won't charge $900 either..
Xtreme

I would think minor changes would be the way to go if you wanted to bring them back into the store.  I'm not sure it is a big deal this time but you don't want to send a bad message to future limited edition ventures.
Dark Lord

Yeah, I think some minor changes would be all that's needed.

Like Sunglasses on the one in the lawnchair, or a hat, a sundial wrist watch on the one for very sunny. Stuff like that. Just tiny modifications to differentiate between the two releases. That way the limited edition buyers still have something special.

I'm a gamer more than a collector, but it annoys the hell out of me when miniature companies release something as "Special Limited Edition", only to go and re-release it as a "bog standard" line a few years down the line (Grandma Wendy - I'm ranting at you!), so I'd rather not see Impact go down this route.  To me, if you did, it would be a (small) compromise on the integrity that I see as an integral part f the company.

That said, if you can make alterations, then go for it.  I know the set I brought was well admired by my clubmates.

Out of interest, how much was the complete set?  $25?  So you'd need to sell 36 sets of the converted figs to break even.  I can see that happening easily, so prehaps something to look at for when the debts cleared.  I know I'd buy a 2nd modified set.
Thom

I have always collected to own, but never to speculate as to any future value. However I can understand if those collectors might object. I would love the opportunity to purchase these little guys, but until finances improve it is a moot point. My wage has not kept pace with the cost of living over the past few years and I am starting to feel the pinch.

Still though, I hope to be able to put in another order sometime before the end of summer, and if these guys were to be available then I would probably scoop them up.
lahatiel

I'm also a non-collector who's very disappointed that I didn't have the funds to spend on a set of these guys before they'd sold out, but I, too, would say that they probably shouldn't be re-released as-is or with just one different figure.  If Norse is able to make some modifications to all five, I think that would be the way to go -- and I'd definitely buy a set of the new ones.
GalakStarscraper

Glad I asked the question.

We'll see what we can do to make variations of these guys then for a release at some point in the future ... no exact timeline ... we'll just see if we can find the money, time, etc.

Thanks for the input.

Although it looks liek it's "after the fact", was talking to my clubmates (none of who had a set), and although they would have all liked the gobbos, they all agreed that limited should be limited.

And if they d get re-released in modifyied form, they'll all buy a set.
