Top ChefI know there is some foodies here or at least fans of Iron Chef (Tom), but does anyone here enjoy Top Chef?
My wife started watching it, and it has sucked me in. For the most part I despise reality TV, but ones that are more like a game show I can actually enjoy.
This current season of Top Chef has been a little bit silly, but I think it's more to do with the contestants than the producers. It's still been good tho.
Anyway, I'm rooting for Stefan or Fabio. They have the skillz and their attitude cracks me up.
I praying for Hosea & Leah to go...as well as Jeff. I think Steph likes Jamie, not sure, but we both hate Jeff. We dubbed him Chef Dildo because he works at DiLido Beach Club.

Forgive the 3rd person ... ... having some fun
Tom is a foodie as a hobby. Both my sons currently think they want to go to culinary school after high school instead of college ... we'll see ... I keep telling them the food world is a LOT of hard work and long hours.
Tom watches Top Chef and Iron Chef and keeps forgetting to set Tivo to watch Chopped.
Tom watches Dinners, Drive-ins, and Dives and wishes he could road trip to many of those places.
Tom watches No Reservations and wishes he had a Leer Jet so he could air trip to many of those places.
Tom watches Kitchen Nightmares on BBC America and hopes he never has to call a Gorden Ramsay in to help his business plan for Impact!
===
On the topic at hand:
Tom thinks Stefan is a brilliant cook and a complete ass but thinks he will probably win.
My current odds have him and Jeff as the final two. Unlike last season where I was cheering for the woman that won it most of the competition ... this season I don't really have a favourite. However given my intense hatred of infidelity ... Hosea & Leah cannot get removed from the competition soon enough.

Hosea and Leah just make us crazy...it's not bad enough that they are cheaters, it's not bad enough that they have gone beyond that flirtatious gray area of cheating, it's not bad enough that the threw Ariann under the bus...THEY DID IT ALL ON CAMERA!! DUH!
Anyway, I cheered for Stephanie last year too...she was awesome and cute!
One thing I have disliked about this season's Top Chef is that the competitions all seem to have been made easier. There have quick fire challenges that were 45 minutes FORTY FIVE MINUTES?! There have been elimination challenges that were an hour total. Plus have you noticed the budget, or lack thereof, for this season? These guys can spend whatever they need apparently and some are still having problems. I'm not disappointed in this season, but I do hope that they step it up a little towards the end.
As far as Gordon Ramsay. I really love Gordon Ramsay's F Word. I just like the format of the show, it's still got all the info of a cooking show but it's fun and fast. He understands he that in the day of the internet he doesn't need to meticulously describe every detail of the recipe, and those of us who have been watching cooking shows since we were tots don't need to be told the basics every time.
And for Kitchen Nightmares the BBC version just seems better than the American version. I watch both and its hard to describe what is different, but it seems the American version is all about over amping the drama.
But that said I love it, "DONKEY!!"

I first discovered the Food Channel thanks to Iron Chef and was instantly hooked. As someone who has no cooking skills I never thought I could enjoy watching other people cook so much. I have a slight preference for the Japanese version. There's absolutely nothing wrong the with American version but the Japanese version, from a western standpoint, tends to have more exotic seeming ingredients and dishes. Also, I studied Japanese for three years and I really hope to get over there one of these years.
I was super excited when our cable company added BBC America to the lineup. However, as a Dr. Who/Torchwood fan, it's still a slight letdown. Though not as severe as the SciFi Channel, BBC America does still edit the shows slightly. That's a tad disappointing.

Yeah, WTF is up with that?! I don't get it.
I think PBS does not edit them.

My wife and I are very sad right now. She deserved to lose for what she did ... but she should not have lost.

I hate that guy, he's such a DOUCHEBAG!! GAH!
Damnit! I was rooting for Carla, she just needs some self esteem!
