Tourneys?

I've been tossing around the idea of running a tourney. If I hosted an Elfball tourney in the spring or summer here in Middlebury, IN, how many people would travel to play? Should it be a 1 day or 2 day? How much time for a game/round of play? Just thinking at this point and need some more input.

Crystal Valley Open (Middlebury's nickname is the Crystal Valley.) Sounds like a good name for an Elfball tourney.

If you hold it in July I'll definitely try to be there.

I'm usually on vacation the month of June.

I'm not sure how many folks would come. But Impact! would definitely sponser it.

We were thinking 45 minute rounds to one goal wins. My thought on ways to break ties was going to be done with a deck of cards. Each turn that you finish in possession of the play you may take a card off the deck. If no one scores a goal than the player that was in possession of the ball the most turns wins. Tie breaker for that would be team with the least players in the Recovery and Infirmary boxes combined.

For GenCon we were looking at maybe this type of structure on Sunday:

Registration 8:30 to 9am
9am - 9:45am ... Game 1
9:45 - 10:00 am ... Break
10am - 10:45 am .. Game 2
10:45 to 11:15 am ... Break
11:15 to Noon ... Game 3
Noon to 12:15 pm ... Break
12:15 to 1:00 pm ... Game 4
Awards: 1:15pm

Points:
Winning = 100 points
Tie = points equal to number of turns of possession

Awards for 1, 2, and 3rd and Best Appearance.

1st Tiebreaker for 1, 2, and 3rd will be fewest number of turns of possession total for the 4 Games.
2nd Tiebreaker will be Most opponents placed in KO'd or Infirmary

I'm at home all of July because of my daughters are in 4-H and that is fair month, finish those projects. I'm gone in August. Now I need to check with Brian and Brian about the best fit for the local FF tourneys and if any from thier areas might come up/down.
Illinois, Iowa and Ohio?

what about running an elfball tourney alongside another FF tourney?

Day One: Other FF game
Day Two: ElfBall

Just to get the game off the ground a little more

How long is it off running a tourney at something like Gencon? or at UK Gencon?

If it is in Iowa there is a slim chance I can find transport down there and get a chance to play Elfball. It would be fun!
Dark Lord

I'll probably be there. Clay County or Elkhart County?

I should have been more clear on that. I live in Indiana, and Middlebury is just off the Toll Raod (I80/I90), right along the Michigan-Indiana border. About 2 to 3 hours east of Chicago. It would be a hike from Iowa, but someimes people will travel.

Don't know if any of the Wisconsin guys would make the trip atound Chi Town either.
Dark Lord

I live in (or will) Springfield IL and it will be about a 5 hour drive.

If anyone wanted to hit Springfield on the way I would be more than happy to carpool with them. I have a small Saturn, we could fit 4, five if they're short and skinny.

Considering Galak's time schedule a 2 day FF/EB tourney might a very do able.

My understanding is that EB will be there on Sunday at next years GenCon Indy.

There's annual Con in Springfield that has a decent attendance and I plan on running Elfball at the next one. (I believe it is a late summer affair)

Yup that's the plan and Mad Jackal has offered to run it.

My biggest problem is that I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and I am unable to drive due to medical conditions. So, I have to rely on: the kindness of others, public transportation, and a bit of blind luck.

Maybe I should try arranging some kind of tournament here. That way I can at least get a roommate to drive me.

Can you take a train?

In theory I could, as long as the train goes where I want to go. Sadly, I discovered that trains don't go to cool places like Las Vegas, just as an example. Cost is also a deciding factor. Of course, with the price of gas lately trains are looking better and better!
Dark Lord

Well I know that trains go from Minneapolis to Indy and Springfield cuz I looked. Can't comment on cost though, because pricey to you may not be to me. If you could get to springfield we could work something out potentially.

I would love to make it to a tournie and I think the mixed tournie FF on day and Elfball the next would be a good way to try to get some more intrest in the tournie.

I live in TX but I will be up in WI in late june/early July, might be able to convince my wife that I could take a day to come play (really a few with travel time). I would probably only make it for one full day or a day and the start or end of another day.

In all actuality I doubt I can convince her, but if it happend on the right weekend and I could find something for her to do we might could take a detour through y'alls area.
