WHQ Chaos WarriorThought I'd just share the only model I've painted in about, well I don't know how long.
The Warhammer Quest Chaos Warrior, I'm a huge fan of the WHQ minis as they have that extra level of character over most generic fantasy mini types.
I haven't dulled the varnish enough yet, so the model colours aren't quite right in this picture.

I like the horns, you gonna be painting more?

To my non-painter eyes, the highlights on the cloak seem a little "sharp" to me.
The paintjob is very good, but the model doesn't jump out at me - it seems very "flat" to me. There was a article in WD months ago about how the 'Eavy Metal team uses a 3-point triangle colour scheme to draw attention to the model's face (helmet!). Not saying it would work on this, or any other figure, but perhaps something to "lift" it?
But again, I like the paintjob.

@Darkson - The sharpness in the highlights on the cloak is due to fens paintingstyle which is inherited from normal artistic painting.
@fen - I like how this style make your stuff pop out from the normal things you see, it works better on some stuff than other, but in general i find your painting brave and i find inspiration in it.
A nice paintjob, the nmm-gold on the horns, gloves and shoulderpads are fabulous.

There are very specific reasons why he's the colours he is.
As for the sharpness of the highlights on the cloak Lakrillo is quite right, it's inherted from my canvas work. But it's also a deliberate choice on my part to make my painting style more cartoony and sharper than it's been previously for the WHQ minis. It might not be to everyones taste but it ties them together and pleases my eyes.

When can we see that work?

Online, very unlikely. Not for a few years as most of it's boxed up in storage until I have a place with a spare room for a studio.

Hi fen,
it's unusual for me to be overly critical of your work, but your style has changed quite a bit over the last year or two and now your highlights seem very, very visible to me.. some of your necro work is sublime, but you seem to have lost some of the subtlety in your brushwork in the last few months.. are you experimenting with a new look or new paints/brushes??
for me your best figs to date are the necro police squad.. just the right amount of highlighting vs subtlety..

I already explained the reason a bit earlier in the thread Rams. It's a deliberate decision used to make my WHQ models look cartoony.
