Wow ... never going to read the Star Wars books

So I'm watching Star Wars on TV and thought ... I'll go to Wikipedia and see what happens to them in the books after the end.

Dang ... there is some serious hate for these folks going on.

Let's see Han gets to marry Leia ... okay that's good.

They have 3 kids ... okay that's nice.

Chewbacca dies saving life of one of them.  Argh.

Solo becomes alcoholic because of Chewbacca's death .... Argh

The kid who Chewbacca saved is killed anyway ... serious Argh.

Solo sobers up just in time for one of his two remaining children to go fully to the Dark Side and kill Luke Skywalker's wife ... AAAAAHHHHH!

Okay what a suck life.

The only part that made it good for me was Lucas's quote that in his mind ... Han goes on to marry Leia ... settle down ... and raise some kids in a home with a white picket fence.   I think as I head to bed ... I'll totally avoid the books and stick with Mr. Lucas's vision.

The books are horrid. They don't even capture the Star Wars adventure serial feeling at all. More like generic star trek technobabble.

And the rule of thumb is that any new character in the books is from an archetype already established only much more powerful. The book characters dwarf the power of the movie characters.

Also the villains are garbage...the Yuuuzhon Vong (or however you spell it.) Meh. No creativity at all.

Makes you realize that the prequels could have been much much worse...but as far as Mara Jade goes...I'm glad she's dead. I hate that character.

That said I have read a few good star wars books. Tales from Jabba's Palace was cool off the top of my head.

The best EU stuff IMO are the Dark Horse comics, especially Rogue Squadron.
Actually if you want some real fun reading BAD Star Wars stuff...go find the graphic novels containing all of the Marvel comics series. "A Long Time Ago..." they are called.

That stuff if so far beyond bad that it comes back around to cool again. Plus it's fun reading all the stuff that was written before they knew Vader and Luke were father and son. I love it when the talk about Obi Wan's TWO apprentices...Anakin and "Darth"
