Okay now I need to ask a follow up.

If Jell-O = Jelly.

What do you call the thing you put on a sandwich with Peanut Butter for small kids ... here that a PB&J (ie Peanut Butter & Jelly).

I knew fanny, because of fanny packs.

Didn't know jell-o wasn't the universal name for gelatin.

well, if I was going to be pedantic, I would point out that British jam actually contains far more fruit and sugar than the American jelly which is mostly gelatin and flavourings and colourings.

So while the two are used the same way, a good jar of Jam (like your great auntie used to make!) is a whole lot nicer than a jar of jelly...

and after two years in the US, I still struggle with a few things:

I can no longer wear trainers, or take the lift, or wear pants under my trousers, or buy crisps, or fill up with petrol, or look under the bonnet of my car or in the boot of my car or buy nappies for my kids or enjoy Autumn, or worst of all, I can't even publicly put a fag in my mouth..
