sorry... timberline...

"We both aknowledge that..."??? what about: "we both realised..."

I have a special way of play, but I've reached the final in the main Barcelona's fantasy football league this year, and I won both elfball games.

maybe it's you playing style what's not right.

do you have nighmares about my razorback hunters?

Hi, I'm Mephisto's opponent.

Hi.

Even he won the face-off and started picking up the ball, I tackled his player and made it mine. It was quite difficult to move forward with jog 5, so the game became a mess, and it was very long (4 hours more or less). It ended when my contraptions killed all his players.

I'm wondering what happened in that face off. If he won the face off, secured the ball and then took his first turn he should have been able to get clear of your 5 Jog player easily.

in the second game he played with timeberline elves (3 dryads, 1 hunter, 1 thorower, and 1 striker), and I played razorbacks (2 swinetaurs, and 4 hunters). too much brute force? maybe. or maybe not. I picked up the ball with a swinetaur, and I tried to go forward but far from mephistos's hunter. with jog 6, might 4 and dodge 4, It was absolutely impossible for mephisto, to tackle my swinetaur.

The game could have been really fast, but I flopped when I didn't need to tackle at all. Anyway, later, I ended scoring with a swinetaur because mephisto couldn't tackle it. Even he brought to play his second hunter.

I have to say, this seems like an experience problem to me. The Swinetaur is only Might 4, Dodge 4. A hunter with assistance should have a good chance of getting at least the ball loose.
Especially if the Swinetaur held the ball and stood around for 2 turns or more. That's a minimum two shots, and at least one shot should have been from behind, or with an assist (or both) to make it need only 1 success to jar the ball loose.

What were the Tackles like? From behind? Assisted? Momentum used? How many Tackles were attempted on the Swinetaur before he ran it in?

It sounds like you guys played Elfball like Bl00d B0wl. Line em up, form a box and make Blocks face to face.

and these are my conclusions:
- mephisto was absolutely inconscious to play with just one tackler. That's why I won the game.

Having another tackler on the pitch wouldn't help him take down your Swintetaur. An extra hand equals -1 success needed no matter how good at Tackle he is. That said, I would probably had 1 less Dryad and 1 more Hunter but that's it...in fact I would probably have another Striker instead.

- my team lacked of skill, but the only skill roll I had to do was a pick-up challenge (and I just need one success).
- I love tackle.
- strikers and throwers have to be in the bench until you control the ball.
- I should have played with a midfilder, to do the face-off chanllege, and try to pick up the ball.
- dryads and swinetaurs are quite good ball carriers.
and if I have to sort these 4 teams, the one I've most liked is razorbacks, gnolls, gnomes, and at last, timberland.

I think your assessment may change after Mephisto learns to how to use Momentum to his advantage.

I haven't heard either of you talk about cheerleaders, using momentum, using shoves, etc.
His Dryads should have been shoving your guys off the pitch.

Actually a really good strategy for that Swinetaur standing still with the ball would be to plant 2 or 3 Dryads on him and DO NOTHING!

Dryads have Dodge 4, and the Swinetaur has Tackle 2.

If those Dryads are playing positions 1, 2 and 3 (or even 4) on my "playbook," and the Swintaur crosses the center line and doesn't get rid of the ball. The Timberline player can move at least 2 of them into his zone before he can move again.
So if he wants to Tackle his way out it will be 4 success on 2 dice for the first tackle, and probably 3 success on 2 dice for the next one! And if he wants to Disengage he's rolling 4 dice to get 4 or 5 success! His only other option is to shove one away to try a Tackle or Disengage, but the Dryads have Might 4 so he's at a disadvantage there as well.

Yep, Mephisto is right, keep the Dryads, and use 1 hunter.

Well, Pauman is selling it as if he would have won the championship, but he is that way. We are playing to practice the rules and to see if we can get to the mechanisms of the game. First of all, he won the face-off. But later in the game, I'll try to make some throws even when I did not need to, only to try some rules.

About shoving him off the field... it was not that easy, but I didn't try very hard. With these games we try to gain some experience. But yes, we play Elfball like FF. The best turns I made, was when I tried to secure the ball by brining people to help. I tried to play as secure as possible. But I get bored and I tried to run towards the goal... and he tackled me.  At the end, I tried to takle him with my dryad, but that was barely impossible...

of corse we are learning, we've played only 2 matches by the moment.

and when I ran with my swinetaur, I put far from mephisto's reach. I waited for my moment, and I just kept tackling with my hunters.

I think that when I scored, one dryad was dead, and 2 were dazed. of corse my swietaur didn't go all alone among opposing players.

and yes, we play like fantasy football. we are used to.

let's see what happens next game. both of us will play better, that's for sure.

about the rules? we played the basic rules, and cheerleaders are not in.

Ah no cheerleaders!

That's the best part of ANY game!

Yes, we've sticked at the basic rules for a question of simplicity.

Do you know what would be really useful? A match report or similar. It has not to be like in the White Dwarf, but it could be a video. So if any on you has the time and the will to do it, do it please!

I'll try to do it with my next game... let's see what the outcome is.

By the way DL, can you post pics of your Widows? I'm not very convinced of the figures, so that I'm looking for some alternatives. Probably I'll convert some Witch Elves from WHF or a mix between Witches and Dark Elves...

Another request: Those of you who are running leagues, can you please post the house rules you are using?

Thx
