as I am embarking upon a new team project, I thought maybe I should chart my progress here for you to laugh at how long I take to do things with twin 4 year olds and a demanding wife..
so, I wanted the RJ frogs as soon as I saw them - in fact, so much so that I immediately dropped $50 on Ebay buying other froggy and slanny bits to make coaches, cheerleaders etc (yes, I know the team comes with a coach mini, but he is clearly a ref mini IMHO). talk about obsessive/compulsive..
anyway, spent Tuesday trimming, filing and gluing most of the team.. the minis are lovely, and in a true 30mm scale (i.e. my way of saying not too big) - the pewter is a little softer than I am used to, which actually works in my favour as it means I can bend some of the arms and legs on the duplicate minis to get a more unique looking set of players (especially the catchers).. I don't intend to use any of the players as blitzer types - one reason is the roster itself, the other is the lack of differentiation on the minis.. so I went to Gaspez-Arts and bought 4 froggy types with more armour and more agressive poses to use as blitzers.. (as well as a frog cheerleader with her boob falling out.. )
so tonight I should finish the assembly of most of them as well as the priming.. and by some point in 2011 I should sit down to paint them.. _________________ in this company my painting skills are limited at best..
took some pics of them in their primed state - I'm really pleased how the catchers came out with a bit of bending and twisting - you really wouldn't know they were duplicate minis...
the head coach is kinda big I guess complete with his custom built platform..

I've picked my frog species now, but I ain't sharing in case someone nicks my idea (actually, given how stupidly difficult it's going to be to paint up, perhaps I shouldn't be quite so paranoid...)
out of interest Thom, how do you feel about frogs having abdominal muscles to make Arnie jealous? remember, these aren't really frogs, they are ancient space invaders who settled in the jungles when they delevloped a taste for mosquitoes.. _________________ in this company my painting skills are limited at best..
I am about to embark on painting my Rolljordan Frogs as well Norse, would be great to see which way you go with them species-wise. They are great sculpts!
Looking forward to seeing your progress. :)
Cheers,

well, I have not taken a species specific approach, more of a "wow, those frogs look cool" approach - all very scientific of course..
my Krox is almost done - took me a long time to decide upon a skin pattern and now he is done I'm not sure if I love it or hate it.. will post pics in a few days when he is done..
I'm much happier with the catcher/lineman colourscheme, though I suspect I'll be hours painting each one..
